Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Eosphoros (2004)
Disappointing - Chock Full of Stereotypes
Why are atheists and overweight people only depicted on television as stereotypes?
Atheists are depicted as immoral, kooks or people who will embrace religion when they are facing a crisis. None of these stereotypes could be further from the truth.
The depiction of the overweight character was just as bad. The character was depicted as being completely vulnerable to anyone who made her feel sexy. News flash, plenty of overweight people are in healthy romantic relationships and get adult attention on the regular.
Worst Bakers in America (2016)
Disappointing
As I am an avid home baker; I thought this show might be fun to watch. It's not. The focus is on the contestants' quirky personalities, not on the baking.
It would be nice if some of the instruction that the hosts give the contestants was shown. That way viewers could pick up baking tips.
It stands out for me, not in a good way, that the contestants are using volumetric measurements as opposed to weighing the ingredients. Professional bakers always weigh ingredients. In England, where one of the hosts hails from, recipes are always written using metric weights.
Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson & The Band (2019)
The Confederate Lyrics and Flag Aren't Addressed
I was surprised, to put it mildly, that The Band's sympathy toward the Confederate South wasn't addressed in this film. In my high school English class (mid 1970s) we discussed the veneration of the Confederacy expressed in The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down's lyrics. In addition to the disturbing lyrics to The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, The Band displayed a Confederate Flag on the stage when they played. It seems disingenuous to sidestep the issue in 2019.
Other than that (But how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?) it was a long winded look into Robbie Robertson. For my taste, there was too much talking, not enough music and no perspective other than "Robbie Robertson was an incredible, visionary musician/songwriter.".
