Leprechaun (1992)
Leprechaun (1993)
Director: Mark Jones
Cast: Warwick Davis, Jennifer Aniston, Ken Olandt.
Terrible "horror" film about a leprechaun(Warwick Davis) who gets his gold stolen and comes to America to get it back anyway he can. He ends up getting trapped in a box by the man who stole his gold and stuck in there for ten years before he is let out by a painter painting the house that was bought by Tory's(Jennifer Aniston) father after the owner went to a rest home. Not scary at all, seems at times like a children's movie complete with bad acting and a lame script. Jennifer Aniston's big screen debut and she acts exactly like her role in "Friends". Not exactly a good thing. 92 min.
Rated R for violence and some language
Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien (2000)
With a Friend Like Harry... (2000)
Director: Dominik Moll
Cast: Laurent Lucas, Sergi López, Mathilde Seigner
Hitchcock influenced tale that tells the story of Micheal(Laurent Lucas), a man who has a chance encounter with an old acquaintance named Harry from high school who insists that they catch up on old times. As it turns out Harry was a big fan of Micheal's writing in high school, but is dismayed to hear that he has since given up writing. Harry(Sergi López) then proceeds to "remove" everyone from Micheal's life that whom he deems a "distraction" so he can start writing again. This movie is good, but a little uneven because some scenes contain a good deal of suspense which in contrast makes others seem too boring and may make the viewer lose interest. Still a very interesting film that Hitchcock would probably enjoy. Recommended if you like Hitchcockesque suspense tales. 116 min.
Rated R for language, some violence, and brief nudity
Bottle Rocket (1996)
Bottle Rocket (1996)
Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, James Caan.
An interesting and funny debut from Wes Anderson that tells the story of two men bored of their regular lives so they decide to start robbing people. As they try to make it a career they run into various distractions and incidents and find leading a life of crime much harder than it seems. Luke and, especially Owen Wilson are solid as the two crooks. James Caan also has a short but very funny role as a man the two and some others pull a job for. The script by Anderson and Owen Wilson contains some great dialogue. Recommended if you are a fan of offbeat comedies. 91 min.
Rated R for some language.
Play It Again, Sam (1972)
Play It Again, Sam (1972)
Director: Herbert Ross
Cast: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Tony Roberts
Probably the funniest Woody Allen movie ever made and that's saying something. Although not directed by Allen he did write it. Woody Allen (Allen) plays a man obsessed with movies who's wife leaves him due to lack of excitement in their relationship. His neighbors Linda(Diane Keaton) and Dick(Tony Roberts) set him up with some, to say the least, interesting women who he doesn't do so well with. With his luck fading fast with women, he realizes he is in love with Linda. This movie has so many hilarious lines and scenes in it you won't stop laughing. Just a great movie. Also look for Jerry Lacy as Allen's alter ego Humphrey Bogart. 85 min.
Rated PG for sexual references and some language
