The Space Between (2021)
Can't believe this is not rated higher!
Warm, depth, complexity, great cast, great acting - granted, you may actually need half a brain to appreciate what this film brings to the table. It's so well written, obviously a lot of thought went into the script - the dialogue, the ideas and symbolism. Not a masterpiece of film making, but a really good film, light viewing with a touch of soul.
The Way Back (2020)
Solid
Well written, well directed, well acted. Solid film in its own right, the sport is just an added bonus that brings it all together nicely
Come Sunday (2018)
Theologically Empty
Interesting character story, technically the film was fine, entertaining enough to hold my attention, but gosh how superficial and void of substance - it was so painful to watch the hollow arguments, so narrow in scope. Unnecessarily over complicated. He should have just joined the Eastern Orthodox Church , the original and oldest church and taken his congregation with him, he would have found the theology and how they tackle these questions, much more interesting, simple, problem solved. The End.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Nailed it!
This is great, almost like Creed did with the original Rocky, this really pays tribute and homage to the original. It really maintains the integrity of the original whilst breathing new life into the story. Loved the references to the 80s, (Iron Eagle, Rocky, Walkman, Atari) - would be any hipsters dream. Fight scenes probably could have been a little better, but it's never easy getting authenticity in Martial Arts films when it comes to fight scenes. William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence is a scream (loved him), some hilarious moments and classic one-liners. The complexity portrayed in the characters and plot is also refreshing, so you'll find yourself flip-flopping trying to figure out who the good guys and who the bad guys are. Daniel comes across as a bit of a douche in some scenes, but all in all, doesn't disappoint nor let Miyagi's legacy down in the grand scheme of things. I also love where it's going, can't wait for Season 2!!
