Madame Web (2024)
It was at least better than The Marvels
But I mean, when that bar is so low, it's not an accomplishment. I wouldn't dare to try to defend this movie. In that respect, I agree with most reviews here, it's pretty bad. But at least I found myself entertained. Had a few funny scenes that actually made me laugh, which is more than I can say for The Marvels or several other terrible MCU movies that have been released recently.
That said, hopefully, HOPEFULLY this provides incentives to corporations like Sony, Disney, etc. To just... do better. Focus on quality content, not agenda. Get good writers, not product placement. Just... get it together.
The Marvels (2023)
What even was this...
What happened to the MCU? I mean, MCU movies were never exactly the pinnacle of cinema, but a handful of them were great, engaging, and most of all, entertaining.
I wouldn't even know where to begin with this mess. It was bad. But not regular bad like Morbious or Black Adam, this was terribad. Not a thing here was interesting. The entire time I'm sitting watching this, hoping something interesting would happen and... nope. Nothing. All the way through to the end.
But you know what, movie can bomb all the way to the box office, everyone can leave their negative review just like what I'm doing, yet something still tells me that Marvel/Disney will not a learn a damn thing from it.
Zeruda no densetsu: Buresu obu za wairudo (2017)
Severely overrated
I'll start by saying I'm a HUGE Zelda fan. I have literally played every Zelda game with the exception of Tears of the Kingdom (which is the sequel to this one). I have every Zelda amiibos, and Zelda books such as Hyrule Historia, Zelda Encyclopedia, etc.
Despite all of that, I am no Zelda fanboy. I am not blinded to a game's flaws simply "because it's Zelda". And this game has a plethora of flaws. I am thoroughly convinced that anyone who claims this game is the "best game ever" has not played good games outside of Nintendo consoles.
Let's start with something most people agree with: The fragility of weapons. Weapon usage and weapons breaking is nothing new in gaming. But the way BotW implements it is easily the worst. Imagine the fierce deity sword from Majora's Mask breaking after swinging it a few times. Imagine you gather the best materials to craft an epic Ancient Sword and it shatters a couple of enemies later. Yes the devs want you to use different weapons, but for god's sake this isn't how you go about doing that. Not only is it dumb as heck, it's frustrating.
Oh classic empty and pointless Hyrule. A few scattered enemies here and there, some pointless koroks hiding about and... that's about it. This version of Hyrule is among the least engaging and least interesting Hyrule across the Zelda series. But wait, you're Spiderman! You can climb mountains all day! Unless it rains... or your stamina runs out...
The uselessness in the water. You remember how Ocarina Link basically did an entire dungeon underwater? Or how Twilight Link could throw waterbomb and do all kind of cool stuff? Well this Link can't do any of that. If you're in the water, and there's an enemy in the water, consider yourself utterly useless.
Time-wasting mechanics. One of the very few perks for "exploration" in this game is finding Koroks hiding all over, all so that you increase your pack size. They're scattered everywhere and it's only purpose is for you to spend dozens of additional hours in the game looking for them. Yeah, it's as dumb as it sounds. There's even one part where someone is sleeping on a pedestal that you need to activate. And instead of Link pushing the person aside to access the pedestal, the game wants you to believe that the only way to get them out of the way is by bringing them some water from across the region. Truly facepalm-worthy.
Crappy story, terrible Zelda. Even for Nintendo standards, this story is easily bottom 3 Zelda stories period. Personally, even Zelda 1 feels like it has a better story. Because no story is better than whatever this game tries to tell you. Most of the time you see Zelda, she's either whining, crying, or complaining.
I can go on but I think I'll leave it there. Won't even go into how terrible the "dungeons" and "bosses" were, or I'd be here all day. Honestly I think a 4/10 is awfully generous for this game. It does have some neat gameplay but... that's kind of about it.
Lift (2024)
Very fun movie.
If you're coming into this movie expecting some crazy masterpiece, this ain't it. What this movie is, is fun.
You see, the problem with comedy movies is that comedy is subjective. Some will like it, some will hate it. I'm on the side that liked this one. I'm not blind to the issues the movie has, I too notice them. What don't do however, is take them seriously. The movie doesn't take itself all that seriously, and neither should you. It's meant to take you for a ride and hopes that you come along and enjoy.
I enjoyed the role of all the actors and the effort the team put into it. Is the movie better than The Italian Job? No, not really. But it's fun for what it is.
Napoleon (2023)
More disappointing than Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo
Movie starts - everyone in France is speaking English. Within mere minutes, any semblance of immersion vanish. Even when the Austrians meet with the Russians, with no involvement of the English, they speak in English. In fact, other than a couple of French songs, there's basically no French in this movie. In a movie about France and a French man. Crazy.
Anyway, immersion gone, whatever. Maybe the action scenes are cool? Oh sweet summer child... Aside from a couple of scuffles, there's no action here. The wars take a neat backseat to Napoleon's drama with Josephine. This movie makes Napoleon look more obsessed with Josephine than Geralt of Rivia was with Yennefer of Vengerberg. Except here there's no funky Djinn wish to explain the nonsense.
Only reason this is a 4 and not a 1 is because Napoleon's genius still came across in the movie. To an extent.
Wiedzmin 2: Zabójcy królów (2011)
A fabulous enigmatic experience
Right after playing Witcher 1, I played Witcher 2. I was so into the story of the game, that it made me excited to play the second one right away. In my opinion, the story of Witcher 2 is better than the first game. The game references a lot of things from the books, and explains more of the characters and their personalities. It not only makes you choose who to kill and who to spare, and with all those small decisions you make, it all adds up in the end.
Game play wise, I'm not a big fan of it. Starting with the potions, I already hate how you can't drink or make them whenever you want. Especially at times you needed them the most, such as during battle. Unlike on the first game, where you can drink potions during battle, here you have to go to a safe place, meditate, to create or drink a potion. I get that you have to do that to improve your character, but with potions, it's just a waste of time. The map doesn't really tell much, and it's hard to navigate. Aside from the fact that the map is small, the legends and markings are very difficult to navigate and understand. I find myself always getting lost, or have to constantly look at the map whenever I have to go places. Quests can be time consuming because of this. Unlike in the first game, the map always guides you where you have to go during such quests. Here, you just have to explore more. I also don't like how the game feels laggy. Like, you have to stop for a moment and do your signs for them to activate. I think the only thing I like is how you can swing your sword and kill your enemy faster compared to the first game.
Background music is eh. I feel like they recycle what they have in Witcher 1. I'm not saying that it's bad, I just think that they could have done better. Although there's a lot of things I don't like about the game, there are still things that make me want to continue playing it because of the characters. Monsters here are amazing. You get to see new kinds of monsters and different techniques on how to kill them, or if you're being nice, spare their lives. The characters I like the most are Letho and Saskia. Their beliefs and opinions matter the most throughout the game. Knowing their side of the story and understanding what they want to achieve makes you want to root for them. In the end, it matters what you choose to believe, and act on it.
The ending of the game was really good. Not only because of the last fight, and the last decision you have to make, but also what happened after that. The ending will make your heart excited for what the next game has to offer. I will still recommend to play this game because you'll miss out on the good stuff that the game has to offer.
Wiedzmin (2007)
A beginning of epic proportions
After reading the books, I started playing the Witcher 1 right away. I was told that it was directly after the books so why not give it a try. At first, I was hesitant because I'm not really into RPGs and PC games and thought that it will very difficult for me to navigate and control everything. I can say that The Witcher 1, is very newbie friendly. Maybe it will make you wonder what the hell you are doing at first, get lost, can't track of the quests you need to do but eventually as you play the game, it is actually very easy to understand. I played the game on normal so I could at least experience the wonders of alchemy. It was very tricky at first on how to mix potions and stuff. In the end, it was just about collecting the right ingredients needed and just click which potion you like and the potion will mix itself.
The game makes you decide on how you want your destiny to be fulfilled. And since you're choosing your own path, it made the game more interesting for me. It made you explore and play whatever you think fits best. I also like how they make cut scenes that looks like you are watching a movie. They even have a small recap of the path you've chosen after every major event. I think with those recaps, it will make you wonder if you've chosen the right one. Which is funny because the game doesn't really have a right or wrong answer.
What I don't like about the game is the fighting style. When you fight enemies, of course you wanted to do it quick fast and in a hurry. In the game you have to time it precisely with the icons that is shown in your screen. It frustrates me sometimes when they do that and I miss it or I'm too fast. I guess considering the time the game was made, should be pretty decent.
One of the funniest parts of the game is how Geralt ended up sleeping with a bunch of women even though it wasn't really what you want him to do. One minute you're offering bread and arguing about pity and the next thing you know, bang! They're sleeping together. Geralt clearly, doesn't just like sorceresses.
Background music is also amazing. You would know that CDPR has really given this a thought. I remember whenever monsters are close, the background sound will change and will give me panic attacks and I have to think fast and react fast. The music makes you aware of the surroundings you are in and I think that's great.
The ending though is not as great as I thought it would be. I think that's because the chapter before that is so interestingly good, that the last chapter loses to it. I definitely would want to play this again and would recommend it for people who wants to experience a good game be it a newbie like me or a veteran. 8/10.
Zeruda no densetsu: Kamigami no toraifôsu 2 (2013)
Art at its finest
I think playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, even though you didn't play A Link to the Past, is still a stand alone game. The story is pretty much the same as the other Zelda games although this one is unique on its own. There's the antagonist Yuga who came from Lorule, suddenly turning people in Hyrule into paintings and Zelda asking Link for help and so the story goes. I like how they make Lorule like the upside down of Hyrule, making it the beat up version of Hyrule.
The game gave Link an ability to transform himself into a painting. And I think that this is one of the coolest powerups that he ever had. The ability to travel back and forth from the two realms by being just a painting is something cool. It also allows you to explore more of the two kingdoms. With this ability, it makes it easier to solve puzzles, hide from immediate danger and hazards that the game provides.
Most of the weapons are readily available, although you have to rent all of it from Ravio, who is a traveling merchant. I still find it funny that Ravio stays at Link's house for free, and yet you are still required to pay the rent of the weapons. Capitalism at its finest. Weapons in this game makes a lot of sense, especially when upgraded. Come to think of it, you don't need to keep looking or buying for ammo because it's unlimited. I also like how these weapons open the gate for new experiences, say using the ice rod in molten lavas to create a new path for Link. Things like that will leave you in awe. Also, did I tell you that Ravio can reclaim all the weapons you rented whenever you die? And renting it back isn't cheap.
Puzzles, dungeons, and enemies are more challenging and has more variety. It makes you think outside the box. Most dungeons will require you to use a specific weapon. I don't like that Link can't jump on this game. But thankfully the Tornando Rod solved that. I have actually been using the Tornado Rod a lot and I find it OP. I mean, with just that, I can make a bunch of enemies go dizzy in an instant which make it easier for me to kill them.
Dungeons do not necessarily need to be in order, since most of the weapons (excluding the sand rod) are readily available. This gives you freedom to do side quests first or go fight bosses. I like how you can defeat bosses in different and more inventive ways that is easier for the player. Especially once all the weapons are upgraded, you can damage the bosses and enemies with ease. Like I said, Tornado Rod alone is OP!
The side quest and mini games are fun and worth to try, for it can help you big along the way. They aren't complex in any way but it will still give you that feeling of a challenge. It will also help you a lot with your rupees and heart pieces. The one I like most is the Rupee Rush. This one will give you rupees in no time; as long as you make it back in time of course. Fairy fountain is very abundant in both Hyrule and Lorule which makes it easier to replenish your health. Not only that, they give you too many bottles to carry a fairy. And what's more convenient, are the save points that allow you to move across the map.
The ending has its own twist and turns that will make the game and the story interesting. One of those big reveals that you never expected but still satisfying to watch. Overall, I find this game really fun and exciting. I would definitely recommend playing this game.
9/10 will play again.
Superman & Lois (2021)
Disappointed beyond belief
I can never gonna get over the fact that the whole planet was gonna be destroyed (season 2) and Kal-El never even thought of calling Kara. Meanwhile John Diggle shows up just 'cause. That's not even taking into account how season 2 and 3 was just too much dumb drama that could give telenovelas a run for their money. Every 5 minutes someone's getting butthurt about something.
Then when I finished season 3... I see why some liked it, given the last couple of episodes, I really do. But a few neat performances doesn't cover up for the season as a whole being ass.
First off, Lex died when he was taken by the phantoms, now he just been "in jail" for the last 17 years? Clark was literally there with Lex during crisis. Did they just think people would just forget that? Lol.
This new Lex is a neat actor, but it's not Lex Luthor. He's basically a Breaking Bad doppelganger with the personality of Wilson Fisk, who doesn't hold a candle to Jon Cryer.
The best thing about this show was Candice.
4/10, I wish I had never watched this.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (2021)
The Avocado-fighting journey
Skyward Sword is the second Zelda game I played and finished. The story was interestingly good, knowing it is the origin of Hyrule. Shredding some light and introductions to people who are new to the franchise. One thing I think was weird was the people from Skyloft. Normally, when a princess is abducted a search party has taken place whilst here, it was just Link looking for her. It was also weird that when the Sacred Statue collapsed from the sky and went back to the ground, the people don't even flinch. With the earthquake and part of Skyloft collapsing, I never saw any reactions from them. Fi as companion wasn't as annoying as what people say. Probably because I played the remastered one and they changed that a bit. I wouldn't say that she's the best though. As to gameplay, dungeons and puzzles are still fun. I like the one where Link has to change the location of the rooms in order to get to the end (which they thought was The End until Ghirahim showed up). As the game is coming to the actual end, it was also getting more hyped and interesting. Having to fight dozens of bokoblins, moblins, etc., which I learned that you can just actually skipped them and just fight the ones before the fences, up to the fight with Ghirahim is pretty challenging. When you get to fight Demise, you'll be devastated on how it quickly finished. The satisfaction you'll get in collecting the tears in the trials is even more rewarding than finishing Demise. It was very meh!
I did have some problems when it comes to where should I play it. Since the game was designed for the Wii and remastered for the Switch, some attacks are difficult using just the controller compared to using the joy-con. I experienced it first hand when I switched from using the handheld to using the pro controller to using the joy-con. Example of these is swinging the sword is more accurate and fun to do as well as the finishing blow using the joy-con. But using some of the weapons like the beetle is way easier to maneuver with the pro controller. Even choosing weapons to use is easier with the controller. I know I'm not really good navigating with the camera but in Skyward Sword, I have to constantly re-center it especially when swinging the sword. It's kind of annoying to do that.
Moving forward, watching the end scene with Link, Groose, Zelda and Impa. Those four had gone through a lot and became closer. The saddest part was when Zelda met the old lady in the present realizing that it was the same Impa she knew and to witness her pass away was truely heartbreaking. I like the songs in the game. It was really good especially the ones given by the dragons. I think the Zelda franchise always have remarkable songs. 6/10.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)
Red ranger wasn't rescued here, sorry.
It was largely uninteresting, not that funny, and relies on references more than any movie I've ever watched.
Shame too since I wanted to like it. I grew up playing the Chip n' Dale game on NES. Good times.
5/10.
Morbius (2022)
...Meh
This movie felt... empty... void of a good story or proper interactions.
I felt myself losing interest 20 minutes into the movie.
Had a few neat action scenes and... that's about it. Last fight felt kinda lame.
Even Voltron being added for the mid-credit scenes felt half-assed. Don't know how else to explain it. And they showed the fractured sky Doctor Strange had created in No Way Home.
So Morbius could be in Venom's world, Tobey Spiderman's world, Andrew Spiderman's world, or... any other world really. But doesn't matter, the movie lacks substance.
5/10.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
I can't... I mean... I don't even...
"Everything Everywhere All at Once", rated 8.6 (that's higher than Infinity War and Endgame) on IMDB.
Yet for me this was one of the most boring and lamest movies I've watched of all time. Certainly the silliest movie I've watched this decade. Impossible to take seriously and I imagine the high rating is due to all the emotional nonsense that's mostly near the end of the movie.
It was putting me to sleep halfway through and I felt exhausted after I finished it. I would take Morbius and Batman over this.
1/10, waste of time, will not elaborate further. Screw this movie.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Multiverse of Mothereffing Madness
I really loved almost every scene involving Wanda, but I was really annoyed when some douche destroyed Wanda's darkhold while she was using it, like did Wanda really not account for anyone interrupting her meditation session? Come on now.
I think the movie had a lot of references to many things but I find these instances to be awesome.
I'm happy to find out that the Mr. Fantastic present in this movie is from an entirely different universe, which means the one we may end up getting in MCU proper could be a completely different dude. Same goes for Professor X, which makes sense since Mr. Patrick Stewart is a bit on the "too old" side now. Oh and a bit weird seeing those 2 without the rest of their proper team I guess.
I've noticed a lot of uh... "controversial political stuff" is found more and more often in the MCU these days, which doesn't really bother me, but it's becoming a lot like the Arrowverse with how obvious it is.
The meme that spoiled Mr. Fantastic "the smartest man in the universe" for me showed he was pretty dumb. I mean, the dude got shredded 20 seconds into the fight. Definitely not the Mr Fantastic I'd like to see in the main universe. But my mind doesn't want to process idiots from other universes as a detriment to this movie so...
Back to Wanda, man I love Wanda... The savagery... I think she's my favorite Avenger now. All the horror-y stuff was epic. And best of all, she got the premium "Super 17" type ending. She was so powerful, the only way she could be "defeated" was by her own choice, her own terms. Still wished she would've just won and achieved all she set out to do, but this is how these stories go, sadly.
Finally, I looooooooooooooooove that Charlize Theron was in the mid credit scene. She's one of my most favorite actresses of all time and glad to see her on board.
9/10 will definitely watch again.
Like a Dragon: Prologue (2005)
Great introductory short film
This is best watched after playing the first game in the series (or Kiwami remake). Meant to be canon to the story of the game, with only one noticeable contradiction exclusive to the Kiwami remake, this being the way Kiryu got the ring for Yumi.
A must watch for any Yakuza fan.
Subbed video of the short film can be found on youtube:

Ryû ga gotoku Zero: Chikai no basho (2015)
A great experience
Just finished Yakuza 0, at long last.
Now what do I think of it... Starting with the story, it was awesome. So awesome, that I was ready to give it a 10/10, but right at the ending, it gave me a few bones to pick. Kiryu ready to off Shibusawa while Majima was ready to off Dojima, and then... here comes Nishiki/Sera to give the obligatory "once you take a life" speech. That just had me :/. Really game? You want me to believe this is the first time Kiryu would be killing someone? I almost killed a guy irl from a couple of hits on the head with a belt buckle when I was 15. Any given heat action from Kiryu is enough to kill anyone. The guy uses guns, swords, friggin bazookas, and breaks sofas on people's heads, but THIS would be his first kill? I haven't seen bs this big since I played Mortal Kombat. This isn't Pokémon, dudes won't just "faint" and call it a day. And then the questionable decisions they both make. Both Kiryu going back to Dojima and Majima going back to Shimano didn't make a whole lot of sense no matter how clever the speeches were. I'm sure it's probably explained better in later games somewhere, but judging on this game alone, I'm not buying it.
Stepping away from the ending, I really don't like the amount of plot holes in this game alone. The main story leads you to building a real estate and cabaret club empire, and then just as swiftly, it's forgotten like they were never there. Both essentially get to control an entire industry, but somehow isn't brought up once past their introduction. Their achievements are generally ignored. Yakuza grunts don't fear them until AFTER they've beaten them up. This is the case in and out of the main story. Kiryu beats up Kuze FIVE times and every single time Kuze somehow thinks he's going to win. Like, bruh... Come on now... But that aside, it was still a really great story with great twist. I would say the story is mostly what makes this game. 9/10 on story.
In the presentation department (graphics, music, voice acting), I think it's done really well for the most part. For a game of this magnitude, I think they did a pretty good job on this front too. Music is plenty specially once you add all the different music throughout all the different modes, specially disco and karaoke. Voice acting is top tier, honestly. Something I found annoying was the subtitles not actually translating properly. On last scene with Sagawa and Majima, right before Sagawa is killed by the Omi Alliance, Sagawa says something like "see you around" in Japanese, but subtitles says "Go get them, tiger". Like, not even close. And these examples are throughout the whole game, but I suppose it's nothing game breaking. 7/10 because still did very well overall.
Finally, gameplay department... I think they went overboard here, and that's not necessarily a good thing. They added so darned much content, great, will keep people busy. But I think a lot of this effort could've been put to iron things out elsewhere, like properly integrating the real estate and cabaret clubs into the story and not pretending like they don't exist. Also they have like 10 different board minigames but I couldn't find GO anywhere. What's up with that? I like the RPG aspect of the game for skill trees and such, but the Kratos accessory for Majima and golden gun for Kiryu made the game a walk in the park. It was like using a cheat code in Grand Theft Auto, except that on here, the game tells me how to use the cheat code lol. The fighting itself is good, mostly with Majima's breakdancing and being able to off like 20 enemies at once. Kiryu has a much harder time dealing with big crowds, but maybe that's just me. Both got to the point where Shakedown dudes become a joke. Kiryu just stands there doing unlimited counters, and Majima uses the Kratos amulet to put a bat on their faces over and over again. 8/10.
Overall, 8/10.
Ryuu ga gotoku: Kiwami (2016)
Has ups and downs
Alright! Finished Yakuza 1. Even beat Juan Ramon at the end. Damn that dude was tough. My fingers hurt from fighting him. Took me multiple tries because right when I thought I had it, the dude would take my HP from full to nothing in 1 little knife combo. What a hoe. But SUCK IT Juan Ramon.
Anyways, as for the main game itself... First off, the story starts out wayyy too fast. Everything is too fast. In Yakuza 0, it takes a while for you to take down countless dudes and a lieutenant for you to even see a patriarch, and you most certainly can't fight one, you'd be dead before you even try. And then it isn't until chapter 10 where you get to see the Tojo clan. By this point, the Tojo clan is this all-powerful entity with so much control over the country. It had huge depth on how vast and powerful the Yakuza is.
But in Yakuza 1... You're killing a Patriarch 20 minutes into the game, jump 10 years by chapter 2, the Tojo chairman got killed because I guess it's an easy thing to pull off now, a 2nd patriarch gets shot, and you're fighting a 3rd patriarch in chapter 3.. It's almost like ranks don't mean anything anymore. The Tojo clan has been reduced to the depths of a local gang.
Things are much worse at the end of the game when both of those patriarchs (Shimano and Kazama) also get killed along with Nishikiyama who had become a patriarch of his own family, because he decided to blow himself up in front of Kiryu and Haruka while they take no damage at all from the big ass explosion somehow. Then there's this twist about a will being left by Sera, sandaime of Tojo, that has a blank "name" to make literally anyone the next chairman. Like, dafuq? I'm no expert in Japanese organised crime but I'm pretty sure that's not how that shiz works. Then Kiryu chooses to become the next chairman, yondaime, and immediately retires, passing the position to Terada, a dude he met like 2 chapters ago. Dafuq x2. There's a billion other unrealistic stuff (e.g. Kiryu taking out an army of Black Ops armed to the teeth with guns, with his bare hands lol) but the plot issues stick out like sore toes. Didn't think they'd also take out Yumi. It feels like half the cast was taken out in this game, and if it wasn't for the character development they all had in Yakuza 0, it would've meant a whole lot of nothing because Yakuza 1 rushed the heck out of it all.
That covers the beginning and ending of the game, not a fan. But everything in between? Totally fun. Best part of the game is Majima, hands down, hands up, hands sideways. No contest. He is hilarious with an amazing personality, and his relationship with Kiryu is just awesome. Haruka is the next best thing in this game. She is wholesome and fun to take care of. She makes you want to protect her and conversations with her are fun to listen to. Gameplay is... Not as good as Yakuza 0's because no Majima, thus no breakdancing style lol. The fighting sometimes just feels like a chore, nothing to write home about. Still not a fan that, despite Kiryu's massive achievements in the district, every dumbass around the corner wants to fight him when realistically they should all recognise his face. That's ok at the beginning but near the end it just gets old and dumb. Music felt a bit more memorable to me, there were a few tracks I liked. Oh and finally got to listen to "Baka Mitai" in the karaoke :D.
Finally, did I mention I beat Juan Ramon? Did all sidequests, got Majima to SSS, upgraded all the skills... Basically did everything there was to do other than the pointless grind required to get the Platinum Trophy (ain't nobody got time for that). 7/10 would likely not play again.
Uncharted (2022)
Barely above average
I can't really compare it to the games since I only played the first 2, and only part of 3. And that was over a decade ago. So I shall only judge it as a stand alone movie. And as such, it uh... has a lot of highs and lows. I didn't really mind most of the characters, including Mark Wahlberg. Thought he was alright. I definitely didn't like the villain, Braddock. I really don't like how they wrote off Antonio Banderas and a lot of things about the movie made me feel like I was watching the latest Fast and Furious movie (pure bs). There were a few funny parts and Tom Holland was pretty charming in some of them. This is the type of movie I would've loved as a 10yr old but in this day and age I would pick it apart.
I give it a 6/10 (same as I gave The Batman).
Which, as a movie, is just barely above average.
Funny they left it on a cliffhanger, they were planning on a sequel all along, and given it was a box office success, sequel is already in the works.
The Batman (2022)
Sadly overhyped
Finished watching "The Batman". Wasn't better than the Dark Knight, not by a long shot. Anything "good" about this movie can be attributed to the Riddler and his riddles, similar to the Joker and his twists being why the Dark Knight was so great. I didn't think someone would do a better Riddler than Jim Carrey but Paul Dano did a good job. Wasn't a fan of twilight boy as Batman, at all. I'd take Warren Christie (Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse) or Ben Affleck over him any day. Didn't like Catwoman here either, not half as good as Anne Hathaway. Most of the movie was pretty boring. I found it riddled with issues (no pun intended) but some of the most glaringly annoying ones are how nobody knows how to shoot or where to shoot. And when they can shoot, they take their sweet time because they have to give someone else time to come in and "save the day". Can't be bothered to dig into this movie further.
6/10, certainly would never want to watch it again.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Good, but could've been better
There are things that annoyed me - mostly Tom Brady/Venom. They tried way too hard with all the comedy nonsense and make him a "hero". Thought end of Venom 1 had established he was no hero but guess they took a step back only to recycle the whole "hero or no hero" thing in this movie. It was wack.
Thought Carnage/Woody Harrison were great. Marvel's Black Canary *shriek* was great too. Until they found some bs way to make them lose lol. But besides that, they were definitely the best part of the movie.
This movie being PG-13 kinda set it back, though I think at least they *tried* not to make it too obvious they didn't want to show blood, since the movie in general was dark and there were still dead bodies all over the place. Unlike Shang-Chi were 2 mini-armies go at each other and someone no one gets so much as a cut.
Finally, with mid-credit scene, Venom is officially part of the MCU. Looking forward to see how that will be handled.
All in all, 7/10 may watch again, which is 1 point higher than I gave Shang-Chi at least.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
A tale of old...
Alright! Just finished watching Shang-Chi!
I have multiple gripes with this movie which is exactly what I was afraid of the moment the "millennium-old league of assassins" was introduced. Whether that be The Hand in The Defenders, the actual League of Assassins lead by Ra's Al'Ghoul in The Arrowverse, or even that one movie "Ninja Assassin": A main character without the proper resources, manpower, or even proper know-how is gonna come to bring it all down because... he has to! Somehow. Main character power!
1) The trope of "I'm really strong but I'm not home so take this time to kill my family". Scorpion's story in Mortal Kombat, Dracula's story in Castlevania, etc. Unimpressed, old tale, but ok.
2) This magical town has spent generations defending this gate that has sealed "the big bad" and they only have like, what, 50 people for the job? Guess they can't repopulate fast enough but ok.
3) Homeboy with the magical rings comes in. Magical town is ready! Right? Nope, homeboy literally just walks past all of them. I guess the town really trusted the boy that arrived like a day early to take care of that for them, because why not? SPOILER: He doesn't.
4) Mandarin's army is like... 50 people? Fighting vs like... another 50 people? They're both are awfully low in numbers and just break about even! Then for a league of assassins, they come with fancy rayguns to... incapacitate their enemies instead of kill. The power of PG-13! God forbid they would've come with some bombs, magical town would've been magically screwed. Nobody died here folks! Well, not unless their souls get sucked by Draconic Shang Tsung over there!
5) Mandarin who's been a badass for a thousand years, mastering these rings for all that time, somehow lost them to this boy because I guess the boy learned a new trick the day prior. This is "Ichigo learned bankai in only 3 days" levels of plot reaching, and isn't exactly fooling anyone who's paying attention...
6) The girl who hardly knew how to shoot a bow the day prior gets to save the day by magically hitting the bullseye! Because, I guess none of the other actual bowmasters could! So prepared that town. Gotta give Akwafina something to do! She already got paid so gotta get your money's worth!
All in all, 5/10 and I feel like that's a bit generous. Some action scenes were neat.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Wack
Just watched The Suicide Squad. I thought it was wack.
It tries too hard to be funny, and with the exception of maybe 1-2 occasions, it isn't.
One thing it did get right though, was the US fawking up yet another Latin American country (albeit a fictional one).
At least John Cena was better here than in Furious 9 (not saying much). They also did The Thinker dirty.
3/10 would not watch again.
Vivo (2021)
Could've been better
Yet another story about some annoying eccentric kids "whos parents don't understand them". What is it these movies these days?
The movie gets points for a sentimental beginning and ending. I those those parts were well done, and Gloria Estefan is, well, Gloria Estafan. But everything else and in between was hard to sit through without rolling your eyes.
Oh and yeah, everyone in Cuba speaks English apparently because why not >_>;
Luca (2021)
Why does everyone speak English in Italy?
Seriously it made no sense.
Otherwise, it's an ok movie.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
A "meh" movie at best.
Perhaps my sense of humor is not keeping up with the times but I did not find this movie funny in the least. A nonsensical plot (yes, even for an animated film) slapped together with a bunch of idiots, throw them in a plot armor bender and you'll get this. This movie has absolutely nothing on most pixar and dreamworks movies so I'd suggest sticking to those.
