The Good Cop (2018)
Great show, but why only ten episodes?
I've been a fan of Josh Groban for years. His voice is like no other. I've never seen him act before, but he's not bad at all. Since this is a TV show about cops, it would make little sense for him to sing, though I wouldn't complain if he did. As of now, I've only seen the first episode. I really like how each episode title is a question. It seems pretty wholesome so far. There's far too many TV shows out there that are massively inappropriate (I'm looking at you, GoT).
My only complain is that there's only ten episodes. I don't know if there's going to be more, but I really hope there will be. My fingers are crossed.
Death of a Nation (2018)
Best documentary I've seen in years.
Dinesh D'Souza nails it again with this brilliantly narrative that exposes the Democratic Party for what it truly is - intolerant fascists whose racist history is shown simply by naming the facts.
The story of Sophie Scholl alone is enough to watch it. She was an extremely brave woman who stood up to the Nazis and was ultimately executed for it. She was only 21 years old.
I strongly recommend this film for anyone - yes, that includes anyone on the left who supports free speech, because they do exist. Don't believe one word of the negative reviews. It's all leftist lies.
The Emoji Movie (2017)
It stinks. One of the worst movies, not just animated, of all time
Like virtually everyone is saying, this movie is terrible. I cannot put into words how bad it is. How anyone with the intelligence of a pebble can give it a 10-star rating is mind-boggling. The humor is horrible, the animation is mediocre at best and the writing is almost as bad as Norm of the North! (And that was also an incredibly horrible movie as well.)
I'm not going to put any spoilers in this review. It's not worth more of my time. Read someone else's review for more info if you really want it.
Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
Awesome animation, great storytelling
Kubo is a young one-eyed boy who has special magic powers that allows him to make and control origami paper. That may seem confusing, but it is very useful in telling stories. He takes care of his mother, who has her own powers.
He eventually sets out on an adventure with a statue of a monkey brought to life by his mother. He must find three pieces of magical armor in order to stop his vengeful grandfather from taking his other eye.
Overall, it's an amazing accomplishment from Laika. It's not quite as good as Zootopia, but it is definitely a good movie.
Zootopia (2016)
Best Disney film since Wreck-it Ralph.
This is by far one of Disney's best movies. I never saw it in theaters, but I did see it later when it came ot on Netflix. And I loved every minute of it. Judy, a young bunny, wants to be a cop, but others scoff at the idea, and even her own parents are nervous about it. She doesn't let that stop her, however, and eventually graduates from the police academy at the top of her class. Once she arrives in the big city, she's assigned to be a meter maid, which she doesn't like at all. However, she's soon caught up in a missing mammals case with a con artist fox, Nick Wilde, and enlists his help to solve it.
The whole movie has plenty of heart, humor, charm, and a powerful message against bigotry and discrimination.
The animation is nothing short of amazing. I really hope this wins the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. As of now, that ceremony has not yet happened. But I will be rooting for it to win.
Inside Out (2015)
Best Pixar film since Toy Story 3
I absolutely love this movie. Filled with a concept that is nothing short of genius, it's the story of an 11- year-old girl named Riley. She has just moved from Minnesota to San Francisco into an old run-down house. Her five emotions, personified as characters (Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear), try to help her through this difficult time. She has a hard time finding friends in her new school.
TThehen something happens that makes her situation even worse. I won't spoil that here, but it is absolutely brilliant. The characters are just so lovable. The voice casting was 100% perfect. There's no real villain in this movie, and I personally have no problem with that. Finding a flaw in this film would be too big of a chore, so I won't even try.
I encourage everyone to watch this movie. You won't regret it.
Pup Star (2016)
Awesome family-friendly adventure
This is one awesome movie. The story is awesome, the dog Tiny is just plain adorable, and the songs are original and fantastic.
In this world, dogs can not only talk, they can also sing! Makenzie Moss plays Lou, a nine-or-so-year-old girl, whose dog, Tiny, an extremely cute Yorkie, dreams of winning the singing completion for dogs, Pup Star. She earns a spot in the final, but goes missing, unfortunately, and is captured by a greedy dogcatcher, Roland (Jed Rees), and must find her way to New York in time for the Pup Star finals.
David DeLuise, the youngest son of the late comedian Dom DeLuise, is really good as Steven, the father of Lou, who I think is a lawyer (though it's not made clear what his job is), and since Lou's mother passed away prior to the film's events, money seems to be tight (despite Steven offering a $10,000 reward for her return). They have a Nanny, Ida (Carla Jimenez), who is incredible.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Kaitlyn Maher, who voices Tiny. She is so fantastic, it is impossible to put into words. She appeared on "America's Got Talent" several years back at the age of four and made it to the Top 10. In this movie, she shines.
Of course, if it wasn't for one person, I might never have known about this movie, and that person is Brian Hull, who voices a sheepdog called Murray. He's really good as Murray. Thank you, Brian, for voicing such an awesome character!
I do have a couple of issues with this movie, unfortunately. There are a couple of scenes where one character, Charlie (Tom Everett Scott, really good), picks up Tiny by her sweater and puts her into the back of a truck, and later, a hot air balloon. It is quite obvious that the "dog" he picks up is not real. It's far too stiff to be real. I understand that they couldn't use the real dog, but they could have at least used CGI to make it more authentic.
Also, most of the songs are way too short. The longest is "Rolling Bone", at just over three minutes long. I wish the director had made some of them a bit longer, especially "Broken-Hearted", a country song by "the Queen of Country", Emily-Rose, a Basset Hound. I absolutely love country music, and would have liked to see a longer version of this song in the movie.
There's also a brief scene where we see a dog talking through a mirror, though the real dog at the side is clearly not moving his mouth. I wish they had caught that in the editing process.
These are just a few minor complains, though. The songs are ALL original, so you most likely won't recognize any of them, which, in this case, is a good thing. Overall, the movie is worthwhile and enjoyable. The positive themes are to believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams. That is something that should be taken away from this film.
Go watch it on Netflix, if you have it. If not, go to someone who has Netflix and watch it there. It is worth your time.
Norm of the North (2016)
Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad
I didn't even have to watch this movie to know that it's bad, but I borrowed it from someone who will remain nameless. I don't even need to talk about the horrible predictable story, the amateur animation that my two-year-old niece could do a better job at, and the idiotic characters that are about as fun as watching paint dry.
(Actually, watching paint dry would be a lot more fun.)
It doesn't even deserve one star. I don't get how anyone can watch this movie and say it deserves the Oscar for Best Animated movie (and i did see that in one review). Did they even WATCH it? Nobody with the IQ of a stegosaurus would give this movie a higher grade than a 2/10. Rob Schneider needs to distance himself from this movie, which will (hopefully) be forgotten by the Sands of Time. Even Strange Magic was better, and that was also an awful movie.
And why why why why why why did they have to use all those ridiculous songs?????
One major plot of the story is the fact that developers want to build condos in the coldest place on Earth! Why would ANYbody be so stupid as to want a condo in the Arctic???
The so-called comic relief called the lemmings (minions rip-offs) literally pee everywhere. Not pleasant.
And the movie doesn't even bother to explain how Norm can talk with humans.
And don't even get me started on the incredibly worse-than-amateurish animation...
Don't waste your time with this awful movie. I wasted 80+ minutes of my life that I wish I could have back.
