does the LAPD check on its missing officers?
7 July 2007
There are worse movies than "Black Dahlia", but not that many in the category of major releases. Brian de Palma employs many of his old tricks. The introduction to the major theme is handled a la Hitchcock; the discovery of the corpse is seen as a backdrop to a subplot scene. While this is cinematically commendable, the rest of the film contains questionable scenes. When Aaron Eckhart's character is killed off, it begs the question of LAPD procedure. If one of their officers is killed wouldn't a full scale investigation occur? Instead, we are treated to the casual disposal of his body beneath the eyes of his partner who later informs a superior that Mr. Eckhart's character will not be returning. No investigation? No Inspector's funeral? Rather, I believe this is a loose end in the film. The Dahlia case is celebrated as an unsolved mystery. Yet, Josh Hartnett solves it in the film. Why does he keep it quiet? Too many loose ends in a carefully and artistically made film. Brian de Palma always seems to just miss.

Fast Lane to Vegas (2000 Video)

Good of this kind
21 February 2006
As softcore porn goes, Fast Lane...is quite good for its kind. Its lighthearted tone is its saving grace. The misadventures of the two male principals are silly, outlandish, and quite fun. The ladies are virtual Who's Who of late nineties soft and hardcore stars. Tera Patrick, Mia Zottoli, Tracy Ryan, Angela Davies (aka Penney), Flower Edwards, Kelli Mccarthy, Sasha Peralto, and everyone's favorite girl next door all play it straight and make the film work. The two male leads (isn't that Matt Wilde posing as Steve Curtis?) are goofy enough to be endearing and made this viewer want to see Fast Lane to the end. The sex scenes were all well done and frankly, more fun than hot. Whether an aficionado of the genre, or some curious viewer because nothing else is on during the wee hours, Fast Lane to Vegas is a definite must see.

Busty Cops (2004 Video)

Hmmmmmmm
6 August 2004
Truly one of the poorest made B movies ever committed to video. The opening scene is quite promising, but why are the actresses looking at the camera? It is an incredibly hot scene, though, and well worth staying up late for. Mr. Jacobson's lines are extremely funny and well delivered. But the incredible cast of hard porn actresses are laughable only in their apparent and obvious incompetence. most of the film is an homage to plastic surgery and breast enhancement. The outtakes at the end make the film worth watching. The hissy fits thrown by Seanna Ryan and Nikki Nova are priceless. Seanna insists that she is not an actress. well, she has gotten that right! Nikki becomes upset during an interview and storms away from the camera. Jesse Jane remains, trooper that she is, and bears the brunt of the viewers judgment. Quite a sympathetic moment. Was that really Kelli Summers? I found that so hard to believe after seeing her in Lord of the G-Strings.
