Waste of time possible spoilers
6 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie almost an insult to intelligence.

It had none of the real wit and humour of Indiana nor the suspense which had me jumping in my seats in other films. It reminded me slightly of The Mummy which at least did not try to be anything other then a horror/comedy kid flick.

I went with friends at their request. I wish I had not. It struck me as little more then American propaganda. Why should the treasure be hidden from just the English, surely it was necessary to hide it from anyone who would try to benefit from it, I mean we have Hitler who was known for stealing art works, Mussolini was hardly a nice character either? How did it come to be in the hands of a bunch of Americans anyway when the Freemasons and the Knights Templar were of European origin? That was really implausible, if it were in the keeping of the Knights Templar and then the Freemasons it would of been hidden somewhere in Europe.

When sconces which are generally oil or tar based (ie resin from pine trees) fired up at the slightest touch of a flame I groaned. After 200 odd years the oils would have evaporated not to mention the wood rotting away. I am generally pretty good at suspending belief but that really annoyed me. Not to mention that boats trapped in ice tend to be crushed and sink when the ice melts. Just study what happened to boats in the Antarctic on some of the expeditions there.

I am sure the teeny boppers and kids will enjoy it but I would not recommend it to anyone.

Out of the three I like this the best.

I loved the sumptuous colours in the clothes and scenery.

It made me fall in love with middle earth all over again. As an ardent JRR Tolkien fan I had read the books a few times and as a teacher had read The Hobbit to a class.

As Professor Tolkien would devote pages to describing what something looked like I was not disappointed with the scenery.

The party scene was fantastic and apart from the fact that in my mind Merry should of been Pippin and visa versa (to this day I still confuse which is which) I loved the characters and the actors who played them.

The only exception to this is Galadriel who I felt was too wishy washy to be an Elf Queen with all of this massive power as her disposal. I also did not like the way she delivered her lines. I know that many do not think this but hey I am entitled to my likes and dislikes.

I had a few problems when if deviated from the book but that is just the fact that I would happily sit through 8 hours if it meant they could film everything that happened in the book.

Totally engrossing

Warning: Spoilers
I could not remember the original event. Probably due to where I was living at the time and the fact we had no live TV. It took a week to get the news.

I was watching this film in the cinema and HAD to ask my friends if they made it back. The reason being that if they didn't I was going to have to walk out of the cinema or burst into tears.

Never before had I been so engrossed in the people in the movie. I sat and watched hunched forward.

BTW I still burst into tears when they made it back. Guess I am just a bit of a softie at heart.

Thought provoking

I saw this film by accident on the TV one day.

It really started me thinking, in this day of gene mapping and in-utero genetic testing becoming safer. What would happen if they did find a gene that predisposes a person to homosexuality?

Would parents get tested and what would they do about it?

This will always be a controversial issue but there are many factors at play not the least, religion, society acceptance, family pressure, and cultural influences.

How do you go if you are anti abortion but also anti gay? Okay I know in reality that someone who was anti abortion would probably not have the test but this is the kind of issues that get raised.

Today in many countries/religions homosexuality is not accepted and they are persecuted. Would you if you lived in that area want your child to go through all of that?

It would be a dilemma. I thought the film handled the issue quite well.

There was a lot of conflict as you would expect. There was the son who asked his mother that if she had known would she have had an abortion. The feeling I got was that despite the fact she said she accepted him she didn't really and would of preferred a son who was not homosexual, he was then questioning her acceptance of him, also that of his sister.

I think I would of left the ending hanging to make people make their own minds up but understand this was a daytime TV movie and so had to have a feel good ending.

A whacky movie. I loved it.

Warning: Spoilers
This is escapism at its best.

Not a movie to sit and think about or look for deep and meaningful issues and ideas. One for when you want to forget about the world and go to another place where issues of right and wrong can be ignored.

I watched this with some friends and we laughed from beginning to end. It is weird and off beat at times, but we loved many of the lines and occasionally use them when we need to lighten an atmosphere.

Spoiler warning if needed for a line

This is bat country!
