Nostalgia
6 April 2024
We live in an great time when it comes to movies. Especially when you look at those insane special effects we have these days. But you know, nothing beats that 80's or 90's vibe. We all know it's nostalgia messing around with your head. But still... I just love how inventive they were with their effects. 'The Philadelphia Experiment' is about a scientific experiment around radar invisibility the US navy has done during the second world war, or so they say. Who knows, right? Anyway, a movie with a story like this, with Robocop's Nancy Allen as a main character and John Carpenter as a co-producer, has all ingredients for 80's greatness. And the story fits together well too. What an amazing watch. I loved it... - 8/10.

Are you Star Wars?
24 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this looks a lot like Star Wars doesn't it? To get some facts straight, Zack Snyder started this project for an actual Star Wars movie that for unknown reasons got denied by Lucasfilm. But hey, he made it anyway... and with his own twist. Is it cool? Of course, visually stunning, lot's of crazy action scenes, but to be honest, a mixture of the widest range of clichés available in cinema. We heared it all before and more than once too. But still, not even that made the movie bad. If you like Snyder's work or if you're a scifi geek, your totally gonna dig this stuff. Even though I'm kinda hoping the second part is going to be better. I mean, it even had lightsabers. It made me lol a little.... - 7/10.

More than I expected...
24 March 2024
I've always liked biographies. It's an opportunity to catch a glimps of the person behind the name. I'm fully aware we can't always accept everything as truth in these movies, but still... I love films about music. Even though reggae or rastafari music isn't really a personal favorite. But I must say I learned a lot. The message came through. People will respect it more, I think. That's the thing for me anyway. I guess he would have loved that. I didn't really know what his music was all about. I knew it was political, but not that it went so far as it did.

Anyway, the vibe was right, acting was awesome, I actually saw nothing wrong with it. But there seems to be lots of bad reviews about this movie, but when you know his family and friends gave their blessing and had the opportunity to work on the movie, it's good enough for me. - 8/10.

Mesmerizing
16 March 2024
I started this movie without knowing much about it. It has an intriguing poster, it's big at the Oscars and this and that. So let's give it a try. But the thing is, I'm actually trying my best to find the right words, which doesn't happen very often. It's a very very clever film. In a way, it's a coming of age story, a story about life without inhibitions, exploring and adventure. Everything about this movie is grand. The clothing, the coloring, the music and even the architecture is awesome. Emma Stone got a well deserved Oscar for her part because the acting goes through the roof. She's really funny and intense. It might be a bit much for some, because there's a lot going on here. I mean, all in all, it's a pretty weird movie and I can imagine not everybody likes this kind of stuff but it needs to be said, this is a stroke of genious. It makes you think about life, it makes you dissect the screen and whatever. Just watch this movie. One of my personal top movies of the last couple of years... - 10/10.

Ok then... I'm in for the ride...
2 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There comes a time when you get sick of all those remakes, reboots, sequels or whatever you want to call them. So when you read the official statement about another terminator movie, another trilogy by the way, the only thing going through my mind was: "Are you kidding me?" To say it like it is, the first two Terminator movies are 2 of the best movies of all time. Judgement day IS my favourite movie of all time. So when you realize that some dumbass is gonna make another bad sequel, you're ready to jump through the window. The name of this dumbass? Alan Taylor. Remember that name, 'cause this dude right here made the best Terminator movie since T2. And yes, blink those eyes, read it again... It's the best one since T2. This guy did one hell of a job. I should have seen it coming. He directed Thor : The dark world and a fair share of Game of thrones episodes. Ok, true, it's not all up to him. There has to be a good story too. Writer Laeta Kalogridis for example, did her part in writing the scenario for Avatar and Shutter island. So if you add those up to a cool cast and some big ass effects, the possibility of things going south should be very small.

How the hell do you fit an 68 year old Schwarzenegger in another Terminator movie? By letting him travel years further in the past than before. What that has to do with all of it? Well, don't forget that the endo-skeleton is surrounded with living human tissue. In other words, his physical appearance can age. When we meet our favourite T-800 model, he's been walking around here for years. Blending in among the masses and taking care of Sarah Connor since she was a little kid. Now, how can I tell more of the story without spoiling it all? Let me put it this way. It actually seems so similar to the story you already know. But then you get a pinch in reality. If you lose yourselves in the story, you're gonna have to ducktape that mouth of yours or wtf's are gonna be launched all over the place. Skynet proves to be one hell of a clever, but dirty mthrfckr by tricking the whole planet by making them invite 'it' into their own homes. Everything gets reset Back to the future style. And when they realize they can't even trust the ones they protect, they know that hope for a possible peaceful future lies within themselves and nowhere else...

Comments about this are going everywhere. Some people say it's a piece of cra movie and a terrible waste of time while others say it's brilliant. Well yeah, it is pretty brilliant if you ask me. You have a T-800, a T-1000 and some very well organised flashbacks. They where even thinking about putting the T-X back in again. ( But they didn't sadly enough... Kristanna Loken looks so hot in that leather outfit... *sigh* ) They really did a great job making it all fit. Emilia Clarke ( Daenerys Targaryen in Game of thrones ) plays an awesome Sarah Connor. Now and then you can even see a certain resemblance to a young Linda Hamilton, who played the original Sarah in the first two movies. Her English accent is gone too by the way. When it comes to Jai Courtney ( A good day to die hard, Insurgent, Divergent, ... ) & Jason Clarke ( Zero dark thirty, Dawn of the planet of the apes, The great Gatsby, ... ) as Kyle Reese & John Connor, it takes a while to get used to them. But when you do, you forget all about it and you get sucked right in. I must say, I was sceptic, but I can't wait to see it again. The only thing I kinda missed were those eerie cold soundscapes that really set the mood in T2. But that's a detail. When you know that James Cameron himself, who wrote the original Terminator movies, sees Genisys as the true sequel to 'Judgement day', you know that this is one sick mthrfckr to watch. So have an open mind and watch that movie. If you're gonna act stubborn, you're gonna miss out on one hell of a movie. Just so you know, when Arnie says he will be back, he will...

Following the life of a waitress
23 August 2021
This is a very decent movie, following the life of a waitress during the second world war in neutral Sweden. It's pretty cool to see how things went in Sweden in that time. I know this isn't a documentary, but still... Don't expect lots of action and suspense, but everyday struggles between a country girl and a city boy. Great acting and a good story...

You'll have to be in the mood for this...
6 June 2021
... and guess what? It seems that I was. I laughed really really hard at this and when you read some other reviews, I have to be stupid for doing that. People are so easily offended these days. Is this an intelligent comedy? Hell no. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Yes, it has a lot of sexual humor in it. Nothing wrong with that. You could even say it's a little vulgar too. But if you hate stuff like that, it means that these kind of movies just aren't for you to watch. It doesn't mean they're not worth watching. And to end on a serious note, the world is in a stressful situation because of the pandemic. Well, let me tell you this... I just spent 2 hours of my time laughing my ass off. Worth it, every minute of it. Flossy Posse to the maxxx!

One of the worst 'sequels' I have seen so far...
15 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fairuza Balk has 3 seconds of screen time, litteraly... And saying she was the reason I was giving this a chance. It would have been much cooler if she had been given some part of the action. But this? Sorry, I don't like to bash a movie because of the hard work it takes, but this is really a waste of effort and good acting...

Perfect fusion between metal and classical music
15 August 2020
I'm not the type of guy who would check out an entire show on tv. I always like the live experience more. I want to be there. But I just wanted to check it out because the dvd came with the vinyl edition of the live album I bought. It turned out I watched it from start to finish. With goosebumps and everything. Amazing production, orchestra was on point, the band was on fire, ... Nothing bad to say about this. If you're in to classical music and you want to know what metal is all about, concider this a gateway to another realm. Try it out, you could be amazed. - 10/10

So, so bad...
17 April 2020
I hardly write reviews, but I don't even know how to call this. How bad can a movie be? I like comedies in all styles. I like stuff in the likes of American Pie straight to Monthy Python. Movies can't even try to offend me in any way. But this is insanely bad and boring. How can this be cult? So many great actors playing the worst role in their life... Just terrible...

Logic... this movie had none...
10 June 2019
I guess this is my second 'review' I write in all the years I'm on this site. Everybody who personally knows me almost calls me Mr. Marvel. Yes, I'm a huge fan of everything Marvel. So it really hurts to say this movie doesn't make sense. It actually made me angry. Imagine that. Knowing this should be the last one in a series of prequel movies on the original X-Men movies and then "something happens" that doesn't make sense at all. I'm totally aware of the fact that the X-Men timeline has a lot of holes in it. But this is ridiculous. Giving a 6/10 is maybe a lot for a sloppy story like this. But still, like I said, I'm a fanboy. All in all, it's a decent movie. But don't get your hopes up. I can't wait to see the X-dudes and girls rebooted in the MCU so they can do something decent with it ( Don't get me wrong, First Class and Days Of Future Past rock ). As long McAvoy and Fassbender are in it too. They're probably 2 of the best actors of this generation. Anyway, my 2 cents...

Poltergeist (2015)

Decent movie? Maybe... Decent remake? Hell no...
1 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start this one with a question… Why the hell do you try to remake a 3 time Oscar nominated classic horror movie? These type of questions keep puzzling me every time I hear about another remake. I admit that some are worth seeing, but very few come close to the original. The 1982 version is something else. It's not just another horror movie. It's directed by Tobe Hooper ( The Texas chainsaw massacre, Salem's lot, … ) and Steven Spielberg ( E.T., Schindler's list, Saving private Ryan, … ) is one of the writers. So this raises the bar a little, don't you think? But the fact is also that, beyond the will of actors and crew or whatever, this movie had a weird atmosphere. Some people claim it's cursed because of the deaths of certain actors of the franchise following a few years after the release of the movie. For example, Heather O' Rourke, who played little girl Carol Ann Freeling died at the tender age of 12 because of intestinal problems. Dominique Dunne on the other hand, got beaten to death by her boyfriend at the age of 22. This is a bit freaky isn't it? Everything about this movie is by the way.

Not that the remake sucks or anything. On it's own, it's kind of a decent movie. It gives a little more than all those wannabe horror movies that always seem to copy other movies in the genre. It has it's moments, but suddenly the movie is over. It's like they're short of 15 minutes of material or something. And thank God for the lovely appearance of Rosemarie DeWitt ( Cinderella man, The watch, … ) and Saxon Sharbino ( Julia X, Touch, … ). Kennedi Clements, who plays the little girl is cool too by the way, but a decent remake? Once again… No. Not by far. The original one just breathes weird s***. I have no clue why that is. If you see Zelda Rubenstein ( Tangina ) perform, you just feel that she means business. She carries a big part of the movie. But hell no, no Tangina in the new one. And in my opinion, that sucks balls. Jared Harris is cool in Fringe ( 2008 - 2012, one of the coolest series of all time ) and Sherlock Holmes ( 2011 ), but a true replacement for Tangina? f*** no… He's like "look at me, I'm a cool and famous ghost-hunter". Even Tom Cruise was considered to play the father. They must be joking, right? No, no, no, … I can go on for a while, but what the f***…

This is what it's all about. A family with three kids move to a new neighborhood. After a while, it seems that the house is haunted. Not by a ghost or whatever, but by a poltergeist. What's the difference? Well, it seems that a ghost is just present in the house, while a poltergeist is there to scare you to death and f*** things up. So it doesn't take long for things to go strange and scary. The entities inside the house feel that the little girl is special and trick her in to coming to the other side, so she can guide them into the light. Accompanied by a team, Tangina, who's known to have paranormal encounters, ( Carrigan Burke in the remake ) comes over to help them. The only thing is, that this is heavier then anything they've ever encountered before.

If you want to see a cool horror movie that has more to offer than some of the crap that hits the movies these days, you'll have to go and see the original Poltergeist movie. I guarantee you it's way scarier than version 2k15. This is a true classic. Just seeing Carol Anne sitting on the floor, talking to her dead grandma on a toy playskool phone is epic. Again, nothing really seems to scare us any more these days. But imagine a movie like that hitting the theaters in 1982. You can be sure that a ****load of people had some sleepless nights after this one. There are so many cool and freaky scenes that don't seem to make it to the remake. I don't have a f***ing clue why. It surely would have made it more interesting. So skip that remake and watch the original. You won't be disappointed.
