Alice and I (2004)
10/10
Funny like hell!
21 September 2004
Okay, I can't say many things about a short movie, because i might end up spoiling the fun. But you are really going to feel sorry for the main lead.

That poor guy has to suffer this trip from one city to another and carry along his old aunt and her equally old friends. Those old bats, combined with his girlfriend Alice (with whom he's talking on the cellphone during the trip) really make his whole experience a real hell! And all that suffering is went through for the petty price of 30 euros! Or...maybe not? In this little story I also got to know what "goy" means! Initially thought it was a typo, but it proved to be a non-Jewish person. The ending is simply priceless! Two thumbs up!

The exact opposite of the first volume...but yet, equally cool!

This movie is NOT what Kill Bill vol.1 fans would expect after the tornado of coolness that the first volume was. It's downright slower, this time based on dialogue and characters. It actually turns the "bloodthirsty revenge" story into a very special love story...! I loved it as much as the first volume though! Just wanna point out that both films would be even better if they were combined from the beginning...the dialogue-heavy second part would be balanced by the thrilling first part, making a more complete film...

I don't want to spoil the fun for you so I won't say what you should expect of that movie...but it surely makes the whole Kill Bill saga a complete saga...10 out of 10.

Probably the coolest film ever made!! And it would have been even cooler if both volumes were together...

Well, what can be said about the best movie of 2003?

This film is the epitome of story-telling. Although it seems to be a simple revenge story, the way it unfolds to the viewer is simply breath-taking. Tarantino is using flash-backs, clever narration from Uma Thurman and even anime cartoons to make this story as cool as it can get...

Well, yeah, maybe there's not enough character depth, and the classicly Tarantinesque dialogues are missing, but vol.2. certainly makes up for it...

Kill Bill vol.1 is certainly thrilling enough to stand as one movie...and the semi-cliffhanger in the end is perfectly placed.

It's a pity that Tarantino decided to split the movie in two volumes...the uncut version must be even more godlike. But I think I know why he split the film in half and released it in a 6 months space. He wanted Uma Thurman to be nominated for both volumes and win two Oscars with one movie lol!!! Too bad the Academy ignored her, cause she certainly deserved it...the moment where she wakes up from the coma and looks for her unborn child would be enough for me to knock on her door and give her the damn award!!!

The film also gets a 10 out of 10 as well.

Malena (2000)
10/10
A film which practically has everything; some funny moments, some touching ones, and also features the Most Beautiful Creature Ever Set Foot On Earth: Monica Bellucci!
12 June 2004
The first time I got to watch this utterly beautiful film, I knew nothing of the awesomeness of Giusseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso) or the ethereal beauty of Monica Bellucci.

Well, all the needed knowledge flooded my mind within the two hours I spent watching Malena. It's a coming-of-age film, set in the World War 2 years in a small town of Sicily. The main lead is a young boy named Renato, and through his perfectly understandable obsession of a married woman named Malena (there couldn't be a more perfect cast than Monica Bellucci in this role),we get to see him maturing over a few years time. Most of the team focuses on Malena of course, but it's all through Renato's eyes (he's stalking her all the time), and his affection for her. It's no wonder that all males in the town (even teenagers) mostly view her as a hot piece of meat, but this boy's pure love is what eventually makes the difference in his (and her) life.

The ending credits will leave you with the "life goes on" aftermath and possibly the strongest feeling of melancholy you ever achieved from a movie.

Great cinematography, excellent performances from Monica Bellucci(though she barely speaks throughout the film) and the boy playing Renato, amazing score by the grand Maestro Ennio Morricone (nominated for an Oscar), this film has become my absolute favourite and Monica Bellucci my most recent (and strongest) obsession! A perfect 10, though it might seem over the top to a few of you.
