Almost Human (2013–2014)
Hoping for a renewal
31 March 2014
I began watching this show almost entirely on the acting credentials of Urban. I've liked him in every role I've ever seen him in, and now that I am familiar with him - I'm seeing him in stuff I've seen before.

Saying that, one of the best things I can say about this show is - my wife loves it, and she generally hates sci-fi. In fact, the only other sci-fi show I persuaded her to watch - that she also loved - was "Firefly". So I think it goes without saying, she probably knows a good show when she sees it. We recorded the whole season and watched all of it in a few days.

The two leads are great together. They could lose the rest of the cast and still be a great show. I suspect this show only fails in ratings - because people haven't given it a chance. Like "Chuck" - another show we thoroughly enjoyed - you have to give it a chance at least ONCE, and then you're hooked.

Enjoying the show
31 March 2008
I'm enjoying the show, mostly. MOST shows I've grown attached to have a weak start, because they're rushing to show us the new characters - but over time, they spend less time developing the characters, because you know them by then. In the pilot, I thought I would hate the Russell character, because for one, I'd fire him outright, and for another, I don't want some wet blanket always raining on the lead character's ideas. It's weak. He's developing well now, and I think he might prove to be my favorite on the cast.

I wasn't crazy about this latest episode, because the main plot line - her eventual arrest - took the whole hour, while minor plot lines, such as her relationship with her husband - I couldn't care less about. A staff member who is studying law and another who is being encouraged by his dad to jump ship. So basically, an episode where the overall story moved very little - where "nothing happened". I'm willing to keep watching it a few weeks.

Two things that bothered me
24 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I think there were two things that got me about this film, having just seen it this weekend.

SPOILER coming...

One is that the movie is put forward as a Kilmer/Slater movie, something that would - and did - get me to see it just on the basis of those two actors - BUT THEY BOTH die and barely appear in the film at all. I've seen at least one other movie where Slater dies right at the beginning - but these two guys were part of the reason I rented it at all.

Secondly - these guys are all trying to be profilers - but until the end, none of them do anything resembling profiling at all. They look at a few clues to be sure, but by and large, they don't try to get into the mind of the killer, and consequently, he's able to outsmart them almost constantly. It isn't until the end when you realize how he's had time to set everything up, and because he's one of the group, how he's been able to orchestrate the timing of everything.

I presume the killer had to kill off Kilmer immediately - although I don't know how he could have found him early on - because Kilmer would have otherwise been watching everything. How the killer found him at all is a little baffling.
