Drag Me to Hell (2009)
loud, predictable, not scary
Seeing the trailer to this movie I expected to go in and have a few scenes that were ones that made you jump. But I also expected the movie to have something scary in it that made you think when you left the theater.
If you are looking for cheap thrills, LOUD music, and stuff jumping out at you constantly then this is your movie. I found this movie to be extremely predictable, especially the ending.
The séance scene was laughable. The guy hanging in the air "dancing the jig" was one of the dumbest I have seen in a LONG time. And the "cartoonish" talking goat was a joke. The SFX in this movie were worse than a Saturday night sci-fi channel B-movie. It was a serious WASTE of money. We had a free ticket, and I feel even that was wasted on this movie.
giving this movie a 3 out of 10 is even being generous.
Race to Witch Mountain (2009)
Lacking in many areas
I was looking forward to this movie as I am a fan of the original. There seemed to be a lot lacking in the movie. There were a few cool scenes. The scene where Seth slips out of the cab and causes the car following them to crash was probably my favorite scene in the movie.
Unfortunately the negatives of this movie by far out weigh the positives. The big bad Cipher(sp?) that was following them was easily killed. The Secret Service guys were always easily lost. The few scenes that required high quality special effects (the floating objects in the car, and the bullets at the end) were all extremely fake looking and cartoonish. There was not enough character development. The most HIGH security place is easily penetrated by a Ufologist and a cab driver. What was the whole point in the big "mafia goons" following Jack except to "attack" him for a few seconds in the whole movie? I would recommend saving your money and waiting til this comes out on DVD then rent it if you really want to see it.
One other positive was that my 6 year old son had a fun time at the movies.
Quarantine (2008)
Why so dark??
I really had high expectations for this film because I think Jennifer Carpenter is a brilliant actress. She has a way with facial expressions that just make you feel what she feels. But even though she was a great actor, the movie itself was just okay.
I have never seen "REC" so I cannot compare it to the original.
I am not a huge fan of the camera technique. It doesn't make me sick or anything, it can just be hard to watch sometimes. What I didn't like was the fact that it was SO dark. You couldn't see what was going on. I know they mean that to be suspenseful but it just became really hard to watch.
It did have a few scenes that were shockers (I won't say which as I don't want to spoil them), but overall it was just an okay movie.
An American Haunting (2005)
Eerie, scary, and intense
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie as this was a story that has fascinated me since I was 12. I thought it had an overall eerie feel to it. It was very good, and everything tied in perfectly. The only thing I didn't care for was when you were seeing from the "spirits" point of view. It was just a little too dizzying for me. Rachel Hurd-Wood did a great job as Besty Bell. You could feel her fear. Donald Sutherland fits perfectly as John Bell, as he is who I would picture when I was reading the story of the Bell Witch.
****spoiler****
I have read some comments on here about some major parts of the story being removed. In the plot outline it says: "Based on the true events of the only case in US History where a spirit caused the death of a man" yet in this movie it was Lucy Bell (Sissy Spacek) who ultimately gave John Bell the poison. They kept showing a picture of Betsy Bell and the Professor together as though they were married, yet you never saw but a very slight hint that the professor was actually interested in her. I would have also like to have seen the footprints on the grave of John Bell, as is told in the Bell Witch stories.
All in all, it was still a great movie. There are just a few things that would have made it better. Go see it, you won't be disappointed. 7/10
The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
Is this really considered entertainment?
I am shocked I was suckered into watching such a ridiculous movie. I absolutely feel as though I was tricked or scammed. I was so incredibly disappointed that I left after 1 hour into the movie. To watch the entire movie would have been nothing but an incredible waste of my time. I cannot even begin to name the number of incredibly badly directed scenes. A seasoned retired detective shooting his gun off into the dark, wasting bullets? I could name so many things that just were so incredibly illogical but I don't have that much time. This movie was so incredibly stupid I cant fathom how in the world it got anything over a 2. Don't WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ONE!!!
Oobi (2000)
Not sure this is a great show...
Okay I have seen this show a few times as I have a 2 year old. My two year old is very good with his use of words. He has always talked more mature. After watching this show a few times I have decided that it is not a good show for kids. I think it would take my son backwards in learning how to speak correctly. I have never seen them speak correctly. It is always "Oobi play", "Grampu Oobi walk". Where is the "and" and the "will"? I find this show noneducational. My son wont even watch it. Not because of my influence, but he is just uninterested. If you want to watch and interactive, educational show I would suggest Dora the Explorer. My son loves it and even participates. As for Oobi, I don't believe any child should be subjected to it.
Hitch (2005)
Question, please answer asap.
My step son would like to see this movie, and my husband and I were questioning whether or not it is appropriate for him to see. So my question is (obviously) Is this movie appropriate for a 12 year old boy? How much sexual content is there? Is there any nudity? Is there too much adult humor that he would not get, or is it stuff he would be able to get? He is a normal 12 year old. If you can call any 12 year old normal =) Is it really worth paying the money to take him to it? I know that it started out with a low rating and I want to make sure that it is not just a waste of my money. We are hoping to take him sometime soon. Within this next week. So responses as soon as possible are very much appreciated.
