The Happy Prince (1974)
Tear-Jerker for Any Age
I must say, and I'm not really embarrassed to admit it, but I've only seen this cartoon once and I cried my eyes out. I was also in a bar setting in New York City when I saw it, so that may have been a little odd. However, there was no sound as the music was louder than the TV, but the message still came across loud and clear. I later went online to find the story because I was so intrigued. When I read it online, I again cried. I was impressed that the story could still be taken in without hearing any of the words during the cartoon. I liked the cartoon version a little better but both were incredibly good.
Short and sweet, this movie is good for a comforting cry.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
worst 82 minutes that I've spent in a long time
While the movie wasn't the worst, it was definitely the worst I've seen in a while. The combination of absurd comedy and lack of composition really turned me away from this movie. There were some funny parts, but they didn't account for the remainder of the film. I seem to remember on one of the IMDb daily polls for the most hyped up movie of 2004, Napoleon Dynamite was either at the top of the list, or one of the top 3, and I see why. I am glad that I didn't have to pay for this movie. I came across it from a friend who said it was one of the funniest movies they've ever seen, however I don't share this same thought. Unfortunately, I don't think that I would ever pay money to watch this movie again.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
the best potter movie yet
OK, first off, those of you who have read the books and are complaining that the movie doesn't follow the book, you all need to settle down and back off. Who cares if the movie didn't follow the book. The movie isn't a direct copy of the book, that would take too long and would cost much, much more. Instead, the movie, like most adaptations of books, is merely based on the book. Who cares that there wasn't as much Quidditch or there weren't as many fights between Ron and Hermione. It's only a movie, strictly for entertainment purposes. They weren't competing for a special reward for following the book word for word. YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN FILM!!! There are some things that are better expressed as actual objects instead of just words on a page.
As for the movie, I thought that it was the best one of the trilogy. Cuarón is a much better director than Columbus. The third movie is full of more style than the previous two movies combined. Columbus relied more on the editing while Cuarón concentrates more on the Dogma95 aspect of cinematography (although it isn't true Dogma) Basically anyone who appreciates the true nature of film technique, not the Hollywood version chuck full of editing and special effects, will appreciate this movie more than the others.
Anyone who wants to contact me and talk about the technical aspects of this film, feel free. For those who are going to complain about the story content of the movie shouldn't even bother.
