Hypnotic (2023)
Ala Philip K Dick
I really think that people who dislike this movie are giving away their own lack of appreciation for actual imagination.
Like the movie Paycheck, Ben Affleck makes an extremely complex construct believable. The plot twists were in no way predictable, and the more the prose unraveled the more I wanted to pause the movie and jump on the internet to research whoever wrote the original story. I really thought it was goung to be based on a decades-old short story by Philip K Dick, Ray Bradbury or Isaak Asimov. I'm still sort of surprized that it wasn't!
While it is not one of Affleck's best roles (neither was Batman) it certainly wasn't his worst. I liked this movie and will watch it again.
Only Mine (2019)
Perfect portrayal of an obsessed man
Amber Midthunder is excellent as always. She was believable as a young woman who is strong but realizes that she is in over her head.
The psycho boyfriend was so spot-on that the last time I saw such a scary character acted out was Mark Walburg in Fear.
Maybe the directing wasn't superb, but the dialog was believable and the storytelling was purposeful. For such a low budget, they made wise use of props and locations. The camerawork and music were excellent. Even the use of colors added to the moods of each scene.
If the actions of this movie made your blood boil over and over again, then the movie did exactly what it set out to do.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Another silly season?
After watching four seasons (the last two being awful) and tge horrible user reviews, I figured they'd just quietly cancelled this series. No one noticed anyway.
But no, the ultra-woke Netflix needs this one to succeed, I think for the simple reason that the red uniforms are tied to Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Maybe I am wrong and the last season will be the best season. Maybe June will become likeable and we will see why we needed to pity and tolerate the ugly June, like Star Trek Discovery did with Michael Burnham.
We have no choice but to watch and see. But I suspect half of the audience will not.
Entangled (2019)
Brilliant concept if you understand quantum theory
All these poor reviews are from people who saw Ant Man and think they understand quantum theory.
Very few people actually comprehend eternality and quantum theory. Quantum entanglement is a whole different operation, but here's a hint: it is continuous, not parallel. There are not duplicates in the sense of pairs, but a continuing simultaneous stream. That's why the 5-month gap was irrelevant and there was no "second time" accident. It was the SAME time.
The writers told a well-conceived story that stretches the limits of imaginary concepts. Philip K Dick would be proud!
All Summers End (2017)
Excellent coming of age movie!
It reminded me of "A Walk to Remember" and "Where the Red Fern Grows." Really!
I was gripped by the gentle, well I told story from moment one. This is a "put down your cell phone, you don't want to miss a moment" movies.
If you don't get it or think it is trite, then you were probably the bully character Hunter.
WandaVision (2021)
Nothing to see here (episodes 1&2)
There was nothing funny or entertaining in the first episode, so we kept watching hoping it would get better. It didn't. The second episode was also dry and unoriginal. You could watch the last ten minutes and pretty much get the story.
REALLY hoping the rest of the series has something worth watching.
Skyline (2010)
Entertaining!
There is nothing half-assed about this movie. The acting, script, cinematography, CGI and plotline are all better than most B movies. Heck, it was better than both Predator movies!
The Tudors (2007)
Lost steam
Seasons 1 & 2 had us cheering for characters we actually liked. Seasons 3 & 4 were full of scoundrels and apart from Charles Brandon (and later his Bridgette) and Queen Catherine the Late (whom we just felt pity for) we didn't care about any of the personalities and just wanted them to all see justice and die (which hardly any of them did.
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made (2020)
Autism?
This kid's inner narrative, as well as his laser focus on the imaginary while remaining oblivious to the obvious, will be reminiscent a lot of our own childhoods if we grew up with undiagnosed autism.
The Perfect Date (2019)
Great feel-good movie!
What movie were all these naysayers watching?
Great chemistry between the main characters, predictable BUT likeable storyline.
Electric Dreams (2017)
Philip K Dick, the original
Netflix's Black Mirror is an attempt to combine Dick and Sterling (Twilight Zone)... Dick was the original out-of-the-box SciFi genius before there was SciFi. This series captures the genius that gave us Cylons, KITT, Total Recall, and ciuntless concepts that were imitated by Roddenberry, Brega, Cannel, even Lucas.
