Atypical: Shrinkage (2019)
Great show bows to LGBT militants
Resistance is futile. Even though LGBT makes up a very small part of our population, Holywood is forced to include one same-sex relationship in every show. Atypical made it a number of episodes without caving, but I guess the writers had their families threatened. Progressives everywhere are now alerting their friends to come give this episode a 10, even if they haven't seen it. So sad.
Superstore: Essential (2020)
I used to like this show
This episode started out with covid and they wouldn't let it go. After about 2 minutes I couldn't take it anymore. I gave 2 stars because I feel sorry for them.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Well...
Going pretty good. Confusing, but good. Then, about 60% through, bam. The mandatory gay relationship. Starts as an interesting ghost story, ends as a love story between two women. Even has a stab at the fact that same sex marriages are not allowed in some places. Sad to say that those pushing this agenda are succeeding in making it mainstream.
Midway (2019)
Patriotic Tribute to the Greatest Generation
After watching this movie I am not surprised that there is a concerted effort to post bad reviews in hopes of keeping folks away. A wonderful and moving glimpse into the bravery, sacrifices, compassion, ingenuity, leadership and fortitude of those who gave all for our freedom. WWII veterans are almost all gone now, and we need movies like this to remind us of what America was once and can be again. I am sure some liberties were taken, but when preparing to see this film with my son I reviewed the history of Midway and gave him a brief overview at dinner before we went to the theater. I realized that you cannot tell the story of Midway without starting at Pearl Harbor, moving to Doolittle's Raid, showing where the Midway Atoll is and talking about Admiral Yamamoto's idea of extending Japan's reach into most of the Pacific. Midway did exactly that, giving the full context and then showing the battle. A great move of American Exceptionalism!
Murder Mystery (2019)
Much better than I anticipated
The reviews had me worried, but I really enjoyed this film. Don't expect too much and have a good time. And worse case, it is only about 90 minutes. Give it a shot and I think you will be happy you did.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
Would be good, but...
I never saw the original series so I thought I would give this a go. It started slow but I thought got better by second and third episode. BUT - I just couldn't watch the sex scenes between the obligatory gay couple. I accept that it is now required that every show promote the lifestyle, but it looked like they were taking it to a new level. You choose what you do in your own bedroom and I will choose what I will watch on tv. I am disappointed that I will never see how the story ends.
Hawaii Five-0: Ikiiki i ka la o Keawalua (2019)
Thrown together
Sloppy episode appears mainly done to preach. The team is jumping to conclusions and things are disjointed.
Hawaii Five-0: Ka hauli o ka mea hewa 'ole, he nalowale koke (2019)
Not a good example of how police should behave
I only gave this 6 stars because I am a long time fan. It probably should have gotten less. I have found this show to have one good episode followed by one or two bad ones. This is an example of the latter. No mystery and very little police work. Additionally it continues a disturbing trend - police using government resources for their own projects and , worse, cops breaking the law with impunity. From threatening civilians to extremely reckless driving to outright assault, the 5-0 team operates with impunity. Because they are the "good guys" I guess the ends justify the means, but police officers should not be able to take the law into their own hands. This show is very pro military and pro law enforcement, but I am surprised that more officers don't complain about how they are portrayed.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Walt would be proud
I have been watching Disney movies for 55 years, and while some of their stuff in the last 10 years has wandered, this is classic Disney. As I watched it I kept thinking that this would be a movie that Walt himself would have been proud of. Costumes, hand drawn animation, original songs - it really was a production. I went to accompany my wife and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it so much.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
How could any action movie fan post a bad review?
I almost passed on the film because of the bad reviews - very glad I didn't. True, some of the 10 star reviews sound fake. But I can't understand the people who seem to just want to make a name for themselves by trying to tear it down in what they consider clever ways ("no action" - really?). It is an EXCELLENT MI movie with great stunts using real people and equipment and filmed in beautiful places, not cgi everything. If you don't like action movies skip this and see Mama Mia. Just don't try to mislead everyone by posting a bad review. That doesn't help people who really will love this film. And I will say it - I thought this was the best of the series.
Tag (2018)
Sorry
I had hoped this would be a good movie. My car needed service and I had a few hours to kill. I should have gone to a bookstore instead.
If you saw the previews, you have seen the best parts. Overplayed characters and lots of unnecessary attempts at sexual humor - which really failed. Honestly I had it at three stars until the last ten minutes. If you don't walk out before then their is a bit of redemption at the end.
The Good Fight (2017)
Good followup
Many of the original actors and staff. Has the obligatory gay couple (which by now you would think we could do without), but still a story line that keeps interest. And, like The Good Wife, you get to learn some legal tidbits and see legal maniverung that most of us, probably even many lawyers, will never get to see first hand.
