The Boss (2016)

THE BOSS review by FAT Mike

A titan of industry is sent to prison after she's caught insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America's latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.

With Gary Sanchez Productions (operated by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay) I had a glimpse of hope that this film wasn't going to be like other Melissa McCarthy movies like Tammy, The Heat, Identity Thief......I WAS WRONG, The Boss was just like the others.

There were some good, cheap laughs but most of them I didn't care about and the jokes mostly fell flat. The first 5 minutes was the best, the rest of the time I struggled not to turn off the movie.

The cast was better than main star Kristen Bell, Tyler Labine, Kristen Schaal but the one that made me laugh most of all was Peter Dinklage but not even he could save this movie.

The Boss tries too hard to be funny and is a forgettable movie (thank god). I hope one day we will get a good new Melissa McCarthy because I'd rather get a prostate exam from Captain Hook than watch another mediocre Melissa McCarthy movie. Cheers and remember I watch bad movies so you don't have too

Zoolander 2 (2016)

what a let down
24 May 2016
ZOOLANDER 2 review by Mike Smith "FAT Mike"

Derek and Hansel are lured into modeling again, in Rome, where they find themselves the target of a sinister conspiracy.

I enjoy the goofy, stupidness of the first movie so I had hope in this sequel. I WAS WRONG! Sure it was awesome to see Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell back together again, and it was great that Justin Bieber died in the first act, but the rest of the movie falls flat. The laughs are weak, I my have laughed 3 times; the story on paper sounds good.... but it doesn't work on screen. This movie is almost unbearable, I almost turned it off a bunch of times but I wanted to wait for Will Ferrell to show up. Even Will Ferrell couldn't save this movie, although they had fun making Zoolander 2, I didn't have fun watching it.

I feel like this movie may have worked in 2005 (4 years after the first movie) but it just didn't work out in 2016. I did enjoy the cameos in the movie and deep down inside I hope this movie will grow on me... even though I think it will be lost in movie oblivion. Another mediocre comedy sequel. Cheers and remember I watch crappy movies so you don't have too.

Pure Pwnage (2016)
Was I let down with the final product? HELL NO!

PURE PWNAGE The MOVIE review by Mike Smith "FAT Mike"

Kyle wants to make a Pure Pwnage movie and has to do some convincing because Jeremy is now living the suburban life and doesn't want to participate; will Jeremy pwn again? I am a big fan of the Pure Pwnage franchise, from the web show to the unfortunately short lived TV show. So when I saw the Indiegogo campaign for this movie, I had to help.

Was I let down with the final product? HELL NO! It was good to catch up with these characters again. From start to finish I laughed my ass off and it feels like everyone brought their A game. Now if you haven't seen any Pure Pwnage, I highly recommend checking out some of the web show and some of the TV show (because they are a bit different) before you check out this awesome Canadian independent film.

The story is awesome but the movie is heavy on League of Legends, which is the game they focus on. I do know a little bit about League of Legends but it is one game I don't play... if you don't know the game it doesn't take away from the movie which is awesome so all gamers and fans can still enjoy.

The film moves at a good pace with lots of laughs and not once did I feel board. An awesome story, classic characters and lines that are funny and quotable; Pure Pwnage The Movie has a lot of rewatch value. I really hope to see more from the Pure Pwnage... Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch noobs.

Deadpool (2016)

It's been 7 years scene FOX tried and failed at putting Deadpool on the big screen
13 February 2016
DEADPOOL review by: Mike Smith "FAT Mike"

A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool.

It's been 7 years scene FOX tried and failed at putting Deadpool on the big screen. Well he's back! I was worried about this film from the day it was talked about, but FOX did this movie right!

From start to finish this movie had me laughing non stop! The writing was well done and in my opinion feels loyal to the comics. This movie has pick up and go from the very start of the film to the end. The action scenes are exciting, fun and gory, with a nice blend of Deadpool comedy and hilarious one liners.

The acting is great, everyone becomes their characters and makes you believe they are who they are playing, which is one thing I look for in a film. I believe no other actor could have played Deadpool like Ryan Reynolds did. The one shocker was T.J. Miller, I feel like at time he can over act and/or steal the show. In DeadPool he did an awesome job and blended nicely with the rest of the cast. I can't wait to see the gag reel for this film; you can tell everyone had a blast and it was a blast watching this film..

A big part of the movie is humor, it's not just dick and fart jokes. One of the best humorous parts of the movie is the juxtaposition of the music. Also, the film pokes fun at everything, from the superhero movie cliché, to the studio being cheap and even Ryan Reynolds passed superhero movies.

All together Deadpool has been my favorite superhero film since guardians of the galaxy. With a great blend of mature comedy and action, this film made me want to watch it again as soon as it was done. Deadpool shows the world that not all superhero films need to be family friendly. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Humans, vampires, zombies and aliens oh my!
2 February 2016
FREAKS OF NATURE review by Mike Smith "FAT Mike"

In the town of Dillford, humans, vampires and zombies were all living in peace until the alien apocalypse arrived. Now it's up to three teenagers, a human, a vampire, and a zombie to survive and bring peace to the once quiet town.

Humans, vampires, zombies and aliens oh my! This movie sounds not only ridiculous but like a lame train wreck, but it's not in anyway! Freaks Of Nature picks up and goes at the very start. This unique movie had me laughing from start to finish.

This film has an awesome cast of up and comers including Nicholas Braun (Red State), Mackenzie Davis (That Awkward Moment) and Josh Fadem (Miss March). They work really well together and quickly become these characters that you end up loving. The rest of the cast is made up of some well known people; Denis Leary, Bob Odenkirk, Keegan-Michael Key, Joan Cusack, Ian Roberts, Rachael Harris and the funny Patton Oswalt. The whole cast is funny and works amazingly well together. Unlike films similar to Caddyshack where the bigger named stars over power the smaller named actors, Freaks Of Nature doesn't do this and the main cast is the focus.

This film has some good practical effects although the C.G. is a bit cheesy, but it gives the film charm. One thing that makes me grade this movie so high is as soon as I finished watching Freaks Of Nature I wanted to watch it again right away.

With an awesome cast, ridiculous unique story, laugh out a loud comedy and an all around fun ride I have to say Freaks of Nature is my first must see film of 2016. So sit back and enjoy; cheers and remember live won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch

Hell and Back (2015)

Hell And Back is a fun ride with good adult laughs and a great cast
14 January 2016
HELL AND BACK review by: Mike Smith "Fat Mike"

Three friends embark on a wayward journey into the deepest, darkest depths of hell to rescue one of their own. While navigating their escape, they provoke a slew of misfit demons, a super sexy angel, an infamous Greek legend and the Devil himself.

After seeing this trailer I couldn't wait to see this independent film! The cast is full of talent and some of my favorite comedians and voice actors. Nick Swardson, Mila Kunis, T.J. Miller, Rob Riggle, Susan Sarandon, Danny McBride and Bob Odenkirk voice the main cast. I was more impressed with the costar talent made up of Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, Kyle Kinane, Kumail Nanjiani, Greg Proops, Paul Scheer, J.B. Smoove, Dana Snyder, Paul F. Tompkins and the legendary H. Jon Benjamin as "The Tree". Unfortunately, as talented as the cast is, I felt little to no connection to the main characters.

That being said, the story is good, ridiculous and funny; the jokes are crude and at times, laugh out loud funny. The best part of this film is the animation, stop motion animation is far and few between these days and I always strongly enjoy seeing the art form.

Hell And Back is a fun ride with good adult laughs and a great cast. The only downfall I had was the lack of connection with the main characters and that this film is forgettable. But I would recommend checking it out. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

reminded me of his first film Reservoir Dogs
30 December 2015
HATEFUL EIGHT review by Mike Smith

In post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunters try to find shelter during a blizzard but get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception. Will they survive? Quentin Tarantino does it again!!! This is the 8th film Tarantino has made but it kind of reminded me of his first film Reservoir Dogs. That being said, it is way different as well.

I loved the story from start to finish, betrayal, deception, a bit of humor and action. The classic Tarantino formula is tried and true for some good entertainment and the story is as good as the cast and Hateful Eight has an all star cast. Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson play some of my favorite characters and this film is no different. They have some of the best lines in the movie and they work really well off of each other and I hope to see them together in a film again. Jennifer Jason Leigh was the one person I didn't know much about in this film and from her first line in the movie I enjoyed her character. Walton Goggins had a quick role in Django Unchained but in Hateful Eight his character is a great blend of funny, serious, also a jerk and Goggins shows he can pull it off. Now without giving too much away the rest of the cast (as always) are amazing at bringing Quentin Tarantino's work to life.

The cinematograph is classic 60's - 70's film style that Tarantino brought back to the mainstream. The set feels authentic to the time the film takes place in, but the most stunning part are the landscapes. Ice cold mountain land with the sounds of the snow crunching and the wind blowing, I felt cold and chilly, it all made me immersed in the film.

I knew I would enjoy this film but every time Quentin Tarantino makes a new film it is better than the previous one, it sticks with me for days and I can't get enough of it. Sure, as always, Tarantino films are not for everyone with the strong language, violence and gore that may make some people uncomfortable. Although, I'm not like that so I loved this film. I highly recommend that before the end of this year that you cap it off with this masterpiece and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

scroll hit the screen I had a grin from ear to ear

(SPOILER FREE) STAR WARS EPISODE 7: THE FORCE AWAKENS review by: Mike Smith Three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a rag-tag group of heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance. Wow, just wow! As soon as the scroll hit the screen I had a grin from ear to ear. That being said, I knew what I was getting into as soon I, and everyone else, heard Disney bought Star Wars and was making another film. This movie fits right in with the original 3 films, but I couldn't help thinking of Episode 4: A New Hope. It felt just like it to me and that is a good thing and the use of practical effects and big set pieces helps immerses you into the film. The cast is a good blend of young and old. It was awesome to see the original cast reprise their legendary rolls and the newcomers blend right in and feel like they belong to this world. The film is over 2 hours long but doesn't feel that way at all. This film moves at a nice pace and surprisingly has some good laughs. Also, this film has the excitement that we've gotten with past Disney and Marvel films but stays true to the original trilogy. The only thing I stress is if you know anything that happens after the original films from comics, books, video games, etc. FORGET IT ALL! Go in with an open mind and as a blank slate, sit back and enjoy. And remember, life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch and may the force be with you 10 out of 10

This movie wasn't worth the time I spent trying to watch it

FANTASTIC FOUR review by: Mike Smith

Four young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Fox should have sold the film rights back to Disney before making this movie. Yes, that's how I feel about this film. Yes, I didn't mind the 2005 film; it wasn't great but I liked the campieness and how ridiculous it was. I liked the Things practical costume it gave homage to the Roger Corman film. That being said, this new Fantastic Four movie has an updated and darker tone; on paper the film should awesome, but it's not.

This cast should be awesome but I felt no chemistry between them. You think putting a younger group of actors together would give this film a fresh take, it didn't. Not for one minute did I believed that any of the cast were the Fantastic Four. The Thing looks good but the voice doesn't fit and the one design that I couldn't stand was Dr. DOOM (never named Dr. Doom in this film). Instead of a mask we get a C.G. face which makes him look like a metal faced incredible crash dummy.

This retelling of the classic comic book franchise is BORING! I struggled to get through this film and when I got to the end the payoff was not worth the 1 hour and 40 minutes of boredom I went through. To top it off, it wraps up so quick I should of just read the comics and I would of got more joy from it. That being said this is a origin story but we needed another one; although they leave it open for a sequel, which if there is I hope it is done by Disney. I tried to enjoy the film but the only thing I didn't hate was the C.G. (beside Dr.Doom). This movie wasn't worth the time I spent trying to watch it. Cheers and remember I watch the crappy movies so you don't have too.

The Final Girls has laughs, a cheesy plot and it stuck with me for days after
9 November 2015
THE FINAL GIRLS review by: Mike Smith

A young woman grieving the loss of her mother, who was a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom's most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film's maniac killer.

We have seen movies like this before but The Final Girls feels fresh and blows other films away. The story sounds ridiculous on paper but it's not. This film is fun and pays homage to classic 80's slasher movies. It takes the thought of "If I was in this movie I'd....." and runs with it and comes out with independent gold.

The cast is awesome and they worked well together, unfortunately Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Adam DeVine (Workaholics) steal the show because they have some of the best lines and they are in highly popular TV shows. Taissa Farmiga is the main star and her shy quiet girl turned bad ass screem queen could make her a classic slasher film star. This cast is strong, talented and can bring the laughs.

The cinematography resembles a classic 80's slasher film look, mostly based on Friday the 13th. Yes, the C.G. is cheesy but it gives the film cham. The Final Girls has laughs, a cheesy plot and it stuck with me for days after. This movie shouldn't be taken serious, it's light and moves at a nice quick pace. So if you have nothing to do late on a Friday night, pop it in and enjoy. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Trainwreck (2015)

another flop for Judd Apatow which is unfortunate
20 October 2015
TRAINWRECK review by Mike Smith

Having thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.

I'm not a fan of Amy Schumer, I just don't find her funny. So going into Trainwreck I was hoping that she'd make me laugh my ass off. Also, with Bill Hader by her side I thought this was going to be a laugh out loud good time........I was wrong.

The script felt flat and most of the jokes by the main cast (Schumer and Hader) aren't that funny. It's sad because Bill Hader is hilarious and Amy Schumer is a big name in comedian. That being said, Amy Schumer wrote this movie, so maybe she didn't want to steal all the good lines so the supporting cast is funnier than the main cast. The supporting cast includes Colin Quinn, Randall Park, Dave Attell, Jon Glase and John Cena. Cena made me laugh the hardest, he plays a muscle bound, workout obsessed guy who says odd gay threats. I couldn't stand Amy Schumer's character, who believe it or not, is named Amy, lazy writing. Her character is terrible in every way and I couldn't connect with her, but that maybe Schumer's delivery.

Trainwreck is another flop for Judd Apatow which is unfortunate. There is nothing that kept me connected to this film, the jokes are weak and the sad scenes are mediocre. I had a hard time getting through this movie. Cheers and remember, I watch crappy movies so you don't have too.

Straight Outta Compton makes you appreciate the culture
13 October 2015
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON review by Mike Smith

The group NWA emerges from the mean streets of Compton in Los Angeles, California, in the mid-1980s and revolutionizes Hip Hop culture with their music and tales about life in the hood.

I'm not a big hip hop and rap fan, I'm not saying I don't enjoy the odd rap song. So going in to this film I was thinking it was going to glorify the rapper lifestyle like most other big budget music movies. But I was wrong, it plays more like a period piece and shows the hardships the young African Americans went through.

The story is compelling and is a classic rags to riches story. If you're not a fan of rap it doesn't matter, the drama, action and story will grab you and keeps you watching. Director F. Gary Gray makes you feel like you are in a world most people have never and will never experience. Some of the scenes he recreated are amazing, including sold out concerts and full out street riots.

This film focuses mostly on the rise and break up of N.W.A. and the life of Eazy-E. He also touches on Ice Cube's falling out with the group and writing his films "Boys In The Hood" and "Friday". Also, Dr.Dre's career in Death Row Records, which could be a full movie on it's own. The cast makes you believe that you are experiencing these chapters in music history.

Straight Outta Compton makes you appreciate the culture and yes it does glorify the gangster life and violence, but it's Hollywood and they have to put asses in seats. This movie stuck with me just like SLC PUNK did and gives you a glimpse into a world you may not know. Also, if you liked the police before this movie, this film will make you understand why the rest of us don't. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch

This film may not connect with you but I liked it
6 October 2015
DOPE review by Mike Smith

Life changes for Malcolm, a geek who's surviving life in a tough neighborhood, after a chance invitation to an underground party leads him and his friends into a Los Angeles adventure.

This movie stuck with me for days. The story was rich, it kept me glued; it was exciting, crazy, funny, and all around a good watch. I connected with this film which is odd because I only share a small fraction of experience with this story. DOPE made me wanting more.

I really like that most of the cast is not well known; Shameik Moore is a great lead and his acting style reminds me of Don Cheadle. The fact that this was his first lead roll and he kept me glued to the screen makes me want to see what else he will do in his career. Tony Revolori is more of a comedic relief and Kiersey Clemons is more the voice of reason in the 3 person crew. DOPE has a big cast but everyone else is in and out really quickly. One person who made me laugh as soon as he hit the screen was Blake Anderson as the stoner hacker. There is so much to this movie that there could be another one made of just the co stars.

Sure this film is similar to others we have all seen in the past, the cuts and rewinds were well done and it felt different because it's been a while since I saw it in a film. I'm not a hip hop fan and not all of the music is hip hop and rap but I enjoyed it.

This film may not connect with you but I liked it. At times the film does drag a bit; most of the first act is forgettable and be prepared for more "N" words than Django unchained. Cheers and remember like won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Vacation (I) (2015)

This reboot/sequel pays homage to the original 1983 Vacation film in hilarious ways
1 October 2015
VACATION (2015) review by Mike Smith

Rusty Griswold takes his own family on a road trip to "Walley World" in order to spice things up with his wife and reconnect with his sons.

I'm a big fan of the original films and seeing this next chapter in the Griswold story was laugh out loud funny. This reboot/sequel pays homage to the original 1983 National Lampoon's Vacation film in hilarious ways; the story is fun and it falls in line with the last 4 films.

The cast is great, Ed Helms plays Rusty Griswold similar to the way Chevy Chase played Clark Griswold, which makes you believe he could be his son. Christina Applegate is a good counter balance to Ed Helms; Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins hold their own as the Rusty's sons but as funny as they are, I never believed they were a real family, although it didn't take away from the film. One thing I loved was all the funny and awesome cameos including Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Mann, Charlie Day, Ron Livingston, Keegan-Michael Key and my favorite cameo I don't want to give away. One awesome way to keep this film connected to the original is that they brought in Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo to reprise their roles.

From start to finish this movie picks up and goes and it will keep you laughing hard the whole time. The story is a classic but updated family road trip film . . . just like the original. The only thing I'd like to have seen was a cameo from Randy Quaid.

As a fan of the original films I wasn't looking forward to this one until I saw the trailer. I'm so happy they did this franchise justice. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Cooties (2014)

The start of this film will make you never want to eat chicken again
25 September 2015
A mysterious virus hits an elementary school, transforming the kids into a feral swarm of mass savages. An unlikely hero must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives.

The start of this film will make you never want to eat chicken again. The cast includes some of my favorite funny stars: Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Saw's own Leigh Whannell and Lost's Leigh Whannell; with a quick non speaking cameo by Mark Christopher Lawrence who played in chuck. Everyone worked really well together and you can tell they enjoyed doing this film.

The story feels familiar but unique. Cooties is a horror comedy but it's more comedy and less horror but that doesn't talk away from the film. I enjoyed the gore and the practical effects, although there isn't much of a soundtrack, mostly dark ominous tones. The humor is a bit dry and I wish there were more one lines.

The movie is forgettable but is fun and worth a watch. I would like to see a sequel, so don't let this indie film pass you by. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Minions (2015)

couldn't get enough of this movie
16 September 2015
MINIONS review by: Mike Smith

For centuries of looking for the most despicable boss and coming up short, 3 Minions, Stuart, Kevin and Bob search for a new leader to bring joy to the rest of their tribe. After being recruited by super-villain Scarlett Overkill, Stuart, Kevin and Bob go off on an action packed adventure.

This maybe the best film in the trilogy. The story is fun, funny and action packed; the story never really has a sad point like most animated films and the story never has a dull moment. I laughed out loud throughout the whole film.

One thing that stands out in this film is that most of the dialog is the minions and most of the words are gibberish. But you don't need subtitles to understand what is go on because it plays like Pingu or Mr. Bean. Our two other main cast members are played by Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm; they did an awesome job because not for one moment did I think of them as anyone else other than their characters. One set of characters I enjoyed in this film are played by Michael Keaton and Allison Janney who are a family of robbers; I'd like to see a spin off based on them.

The animation is great and Minions uses some different styles of animation, there is 3D animation which is throughout the whole film, some 2D animation and even a bit of stop motion animation. I think all of the different styles were all done by computers instead of the traditional ways for making stop motion and 2D, but it still looks great.

With action, comedy and all around fun; I had a grin from ear to ear, I couldn't stop laughing and I couldn't get enough of this movie. Great animation, great plot, great humor, what's not to love? Cheers and remember, life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Turbo Kid (2015)
9/10
independent movie gold!
12 September 2015
This film is independent movie gold. The cinematography is beautiful, from the old buildings, to the landscapes, this film makes you believe your in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. There are a lot of practical effects and blood gags, lots of blood! One touch I enjoyed was the use of bicycles, if you think about it, it makes scent in a post-apocalyptic world there most likely isn't gas so how else do you get around. The little bit of C.G. they use is really 80's, as well as the music and props, which is part of the charm of Turbo Kid.

Besides Total Recall's (1990) Michael Ironside who plays a great villain, the rest of the cast isn't as well know which makes this movie stand out. Munro Chambers plays the star of the film known as "The Kid"; like most post-apocalyptic movies in the 80s his back story gets flushed out throughout the film. At times The Kid reminds me of a young Mad Max, although The Kid doesn't become an interesting character until we run into "Apple" played by Laurence Leboeuf. When we first see apple she is CREEPY! But we quickly glow to love her and with her humorous personality she kind of steals the show. Aaron Jeffery plays the bad ass character who is a mix of Mad Max, Indiana Jones and Snake Plissken. All together the whole cast works really well together and their chemistry gets you really invested in the film.

The story moves at a quick pace once it gets warmed up and it just keeps going which kept me glued. Sure the blood is over the top, there are some quick fixes to keep the story going and there is some cheesy times but it is all fun and I really enjoyed this film from start to finish. Unfortunately this film maybe forgotten by most so don't pass it up. Turbo Kids is another independent film that shows why you should look for non-mainstream films because they try harder, they are fun and a bit different. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Jude Law, Jason Statham and . . . Melissa McCarthy!?!?
2 September 2015
SPY review by Mike Smith

A desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent diabolical global disaster.

Jude Law, Jason Statham and . . . Melissa McCarthy!?!? From the looks of this movie it was going to be a agonizing flop, but to my surprise this movie was fun and I cannot stop recommending it.

The cast is an unlikely grouping but they all work awesome together. After the last couple of Melissa McCarthy films I've seen, I was not looking forward to this one. But she did a really good job; if felt like she toned down the bumbling Kevin James-ness unlike she has done in the past; yes, it's still there from time to time but not overdone. The one person I loved in this film is Jason Statham, this is a different roll for him, he is really funny and I feel like some of the stories he tells are things that happened in Jason Statham's other films.

The story is good but not really original and the film is forgettable. although, SPY has a great mix of comedy and action. The laughs are strong and are non stop, I was shocked by how good Melissa McCarthy did with fight scenes.

With a fun story, good laughs, fun action and Jason Statham like you have never seen him before. SPY is a good watch and you shouldn't let this movie pass you by. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

The story was good, the action was fun and it was awesome seeing my favorite classic arcade games come to life
25 August 2015
PIXELS review by Mike Smith

When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth in the form of a video games.

I could not wait to see this movie, but I liked PIXELS in a whole different way. The movie doesn't have a lot of hard laughs and every time there was an opportunity for one, it dropped the ball. That being said there are lots of chuckles.

The cast works really well together but that's not a shock because most of them are part of the Happy Madison family. PIXELS doesn't really pick up until we see Josh Gad. Adam Sandler may be the star of the film but all the best lines and funny parts are given to Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage. Also, keep your eyes open for Dan Aykroyd and the product placement of his crystal head vodka.

PIXELS has a nice blend of light laughs, romance, sci-fi, gun action and car action. The film moves at a nice pace and it goes by fast. This film is fun for the whole family, young and old; the music is a 80s greatest hits soundtrack and really ties the film together.

The c.g is fun, cute and really well done... One thing that bugged me the first time I watched PIXELS was that Q-Burt could talk. But then after the 2nd viewing, I figured that he is an alien not the real game character and he is a big part of the movie so he has to speak. Another thing that PIXELS does is point out the generation gap, but as someone who plays a lot of classic arcade games, I'm shocked that some kids don't know about arcades. Hopefully this film will make younger kids want to find and play arcade classics.

I'm so happy about this film, I was hoping for big laughs and even though there weren't any, it wasn't a let down. The story was good, the action was fun and it was awesome seeing my favorite classic arcade games come to life in the real world. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015 TV Movie)
6/10
The c.g. is bad, the story is ridiculous, the acting is cheesy but the movie is fun
12 August 2015
SHARKNADO 3: OH HELL NO! review by Mike Smith In this 3rd installment of the Syfy original trilogy, Sharknado, a monstrous tornado unleashes ravenous sharks from Washington D.C., all the way down to Orlando Florida. It's up to Fin Shepard and his friends and family to save the day....again. I highly enjoyed the over the top cheesiness of the Sharknado franchise, but this one jumped the shark. The movie is outrageously ridiculous but it's a fun ride. The movie knows what it is and doesn't take it's self serious. One thing I loved about this Sharknado is the list of celebrity cameos. David Hasselhoff, Frankie Muniz, Bo Derek, the awesome Michael Winslow, Ne-Yo, WWE legend Chris Jericho, Bill Engvall, Jerry Springer, and the list goes on! The c.g. is bad, the story is ridiculous, the acting is cheesy but the movie is fun. Yes all 3 movies blend together and the movie is forgettable. If you like B movies then you may enjoy this as much as I did, but this movie isn't for everyone. I really hope that there are no plans for a Sharknado 4 because I think this film really pushed the franchise as far as it can go. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good B movie to watch. 6.5 out of 10 Edited by Samantha Locke

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 was an unbearable watch
28 July 2015
PAUL BLART MALL COP 2 review by Mike Smith

After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

Well the first film wasn't the best movie I have ever seen but it was a good family movie and I did have some chuckles. On the other hand Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 was an unbearable watch; the jokes fall flat and they feel really forced. The first movie was a good family film, but to make your family watch this god awful sequel is more like torture.

The cast did feel like they had fun making it but I wish I felt the same way about watching this movie. There wasn't anything good about the film at all so take my word for it and save yourself some time. Cheers and remember I watch the crappy movies so you don't have to.

hold on to your butts...once again
25 July 2015
JURASSIC WORLD review by Mike Smith A new theme park is built on the original site of Jurassic Park. Everything is going well until the park's newest attraction, a genetically modified giant stealth killing machine, escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.

I may have been one of few people who didn't want to see this movie but I'm glad I changed my mind! Just like the original film, Jurassic World is a fun ride and it has some great one liners but it's predictable.

The cast is amazing; Chris Pratt is a cool bad ass in this film but in a way he plays this role like a Indiana Jones style character. He steals the show to the point where you don't care about anyone else. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Claire who from the start of the film you know is going to be the damsel in distress, which is a sad thing because I'd like to see a strong female character. She also is kind of a 2D character with no real personality which isn't Bryce Dallas Howard's fault. One person I would have liked to see more of was Jake Johnson, he is the comic relief but we don't see enough of him.

One thing that made the original Jurassic Park groundbreaking was the practical effects. Jurassic World is over the top C.G. and uses very few practical effects which I would have liked to see more of. One more thing I loved about this film was all the homage and nods to the original film.

All together Jurassic World takes after the original; it's exciting, fun, and a great time for the whole family but I found it to be forgettable. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Bad Asses on the Bayou (2015 Video)
8/10
If you haven't seen the last two films (Bad Ass and Bad Asses) you most likely won't enjoy this film
15 July 2015
BAD ASSES 3: ON THE BAYOU review by Mike Smith

Frank Vega and Bernie Pope return, this time to Louisiana in an attempt to find a kidnapped friend.

I love the Bad Ass and Bad Asses movies and when I found out that there was a third coming out I was happy. After the first scene, Bad Asses 3: On The Bayou had me smiling from ear to ear. Danny Trejo and Danny Glover are a classic team, they are funny together as ass whooping crotchety old men.

The writing is really well done; this film has the same flow of over the top action, comedy, and overacting fun. Yes this film is predictable and the C.G. is very cheesy but it's a low beget and it adds to the charm. It's unfortunate that these movies are forgettable and a lot of people shy away on this movies because they are not familiar with the franchise or because it's independent. This film has heart which some big movies don't have.

If you haven't seen the last two films (Bad Ass and Bad Asses) you most likely won't enjoy this film. These movies are not to be taken too seriously, sit back, have some fun and laughs. They leave it open for a fourth movie but I think they should have capped the franchise off with this film. Either way you can count on me reviewing the fourth film if so. Bad Asses 3 is another good reason not to always reject independent sequels.

Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Most of the time Horrible Bosses 2 is quite boring, it doesn't bring anything new to the table and it feels lazy
15 July 2015
HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 review by Mike Smith

The boys are back! Dale, Kurt and Nick decide to start their own business but things don't go as planned after a slick investor really screws them over.

I was a fan of the first Horrible Bosses film but Horrible Bosses 2 is a good example that not every good movie needs a sequel. The writing feels lazy and rushed; I found myself chuckling but I was hoping to have more big laughs like in the first movie.

The cast is made up of amazing actors: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day have a fun chemistry together but for some reason this movie didn't harness it, which hurts the film. I love Jennifer Aniston's character but this time they toned her down when they really should of amped her up. Kevin Spacey also returns and the scenes with him are worth watching and as always he steals the show. Christoph Waltz is a new addition to this movie; I'm a big fan of Waltz but just like the rest of the characters in this film his is two dimensional.

The director Sean Anders did a grate job with the car case by using the right mix for action and comedy. As for the rest of the movie, he really depends on montages which should really only be used occasionally in a movie.

Most of the time Horrible Bosses 2 is quite boring, it doesn't bring anything new to the table and it feels lazy. The movie has an awesome cast but feels like they don't push the actors to their full potential which is most likely because of the mediocre writing. The laughs are OK but nothing sticks and I just wanted the movie to end. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

With laughs, excitement and heart felt moments Night at the Museum 3 Secrets of the Tomb is a great movie to lose your self in
15 July 2015
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB review by Mike Smith

Larry leaves New York City and travels to London to embark on another epic quest to save the Tablet of Ahkmenrah before the magic that brings the museum to life is gone forever.

Night at the Museum 3 is an awesome way to cap off the trilogy. Just like the last 2 films this movie has a nice blend of adventure, comedy and family friendly fun.

The whole cast is back and better then ever! Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Patrick Gallagher, Mizuo Peck and Crystal the Monkey all reprise their rolls but we have some new comers to the franchise; Sir Ben Kingsley, Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson. Everyone works so amazing together and keeps you glued to the screen and makes you laugh. The new character I wanted more of was "Garuda" who was voiced by the legendary Robin Williams.

It's hard to believe that it's been 6 years since the last time we've seen these characters. I have to admit when I heard that a third movie was being made I had no interest and thought is was dumb BUT I was wrong once again. Knowing that this was the last film Robin Williams made me sad and made me realize that we all took him for granted. It is a good send of to a legendary career.

With laughs, excitement and heart felt moments Night at the Museum 3 Secrets of the Tomb is a great movie to lose your self in, have a fun viewing exercise and never underestimate a sequel. Unfortunately, like the last two films, this movie will most likely be forgotten. Cheers and remember life won't suck as long as there is a good movie to watch.

Also keep your eyes open for what maybe the funniest cameo in a long time
