Twilight (2008)
Do NOT watch the movie if you haven't read the book!
I am in love with the twilight series, especially the first book. And mainly because of how much i love Edward. Hes the perfect guy. SO what if he happens to be a vampire? SOoooooooo I saw the movie and i definitely enjoyed watching it cuz its like a summary of the book that u get to see and kinda relive reading it, but it doesn't compare one bit. I mean, first off, that was the worst actor to play Edward. He was not a good actor, he sounded like he was reading from the script the whole time. And, I picture Edward to be tough and protective and just so sweet, and this guy, i don't know, just didn't portray it that way. Sure he can stop a truck and do all the Edward in the book things, but it looked so fake cuz he was such a skinny dork. And again a really bad actor. In my opinion. The Bella actress was pretty good, but i think he ruined the scenes so much that no actress could recover th magic that i picture them having between them. And since the movie is so much shorter they rush the whole relationship with Edward and Bella that u cant fully appreciate the chemistry between them like in the book. So, what i have been telling everyone is they can not see the movie before they read the book. If u do, u cant fully appreciate it and u will think that it really is nothing special and there is no point to read the book. But since i love the book so much, it was just fun to watch it and relive it and add my own imagination to it since i know what the author was trying to make us feel!
Carpoolers (2007)
funny funny show
I have never heard of this show. No ones mentioned it, never saw an advertisement or anything. But being nothing to watch on TV with this whole writers strike thing, my husband and i went to our on demand and saw this title. We looked at the info and i rolled my eyes, thinking that since all the good shows are on hiatus, any stupid show can get on. But, we gave it a try since we really wanted to watch something. And seriously, to my surprise, this show had us laughing so hard. We got to watch 3 episodes and we cant wait for more. Sooooo funny. I love the friendship between the men, because seriously, how often do you get to see that? And, the strange son of one of the main characters has us in tears. And, Jerry OConnel....just brilliant! Give this show a try!
The Office (2005)
funniest show ever
My husband and I rented the first 2 seasons of the office on DVD. The first season was funny and the second was absolutely hysterically funny. We cant get through an episode without getting that burst of laughter that hurts your stomach and makes tears in your eyes! I love how there's no laugh track because its not the obvious humor...you have to really pay attention to what is being said and what is going on before you see just how funny the humor is. I love how everyone really is able to stay in character throughout the season. I love Pam and Jims relationship and i love love love Michael! My favorite theme is the temp and Michael's fascination with how hot he is!!!
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
A girls view on spiderman3
Im a very girly girl...I don't like comic books at all, generally hate when movies are based on a comic book hero, and actually never watch action films...i stick with the chick flicks. But, for some reason, I always enjoyed the spider man movies. I guess its because there is definitely a cute story with Peter and M.J. and their basically my age, so i enjoy watching it...and a lot of the fight scenes had always been Peter saving someones life, which is always emotional and fun to see. So, Im reading the other comments about this movie, and I see that most people are disappointed with the lack of great fight scenes, or the fact that it goes against the actual comic book. I could care less about that. I will agree with some other writers who say there was way too much going on and then they just threw some scenes in that really seem to not belong, just to make room for the other characters. And the whole bad Peter thing, really stupid and rushed. I was thinking during the movie that there are way too many villains, but, it kinda made for a really good ending, so I appreciated it at the end. Though, they still could have gotten rid of him being his own nemesis. The truth is some things could have waited for the next movie...but, is there gonna be another? And, if so, if its with different actors then it may just not be worth seeing anyways. So, if u are someone like me, who just enjoys the movies for the tearful, emotional story, its a pretty good one. I think for the people who care more about the fighting and true spider man story, you may be disappointed.
My Date with Drew (2004)
A good review, from a completely unbiased reviewer!
OK, unlike what the last reviewer said, i have NO connection with this film. U can believe me or not, its OK. In fact i rented the movie thinking it was a stupid, fictionious movie that i can keep on in the background while i do other things. Next thing I know, I'm on the couch, laughing, crying, and all that stuff. Seriously, for someone who is obsessed with celebrities in general, one or two specifically, it was so inspirational to watch someone actually get to meet their celebrity crush. And work on his career at the same time! And, Brian, you are bound to have a great career. That movie could have been boring as anything, but you made it so much fun. Stop taking those entry level jobs! You can do so much better. Though, listen to your mom. Shes right. The star is EVERYTHING!
Rent (2005)
May have even liked it more than the play!
Wow! I was so happy to hear they were making a Rent movie! Like many others, I was a bit scared the movie would change the magic of the play, but that was not the case. While I do think that you really should have seen the play first to really appreciate the movie, watching the movie cleared up a lot of confusion one may have during the play. It was just great! It was like seeing an extended version of the play and having a much better seat! The music was absolutely wonderful, and the cast couldn't have been better! You really feel like you know the "family" by the end of the movie. And, how hot is Roger? This is certainly a play you will laugh and cry in. And, of course, it will make you want to sing!
Before Sunrise (1995)
not sure if i agree...
I see what everyone means by the movie being romantic and honest and a great insight into these two character's lives. But, it wasn't exactly the most entertaining movie. It was long and dragged out...I felt like we were there for the whole 24 hours they were together. A man and a woman meet on a train, decide to leave together to spend the rest of the day and night together doing nothing but talk...and thats all they did - talk. Some of the conversations were pretty interesting, but the others were just chit chat, that though i like to have with others, i do not like to watch other peoples. But, what really really drove me nuts is that we have no idea if they meet in 6 months like planned. I know, i have no imagination, but i was really disappointed when the end credits came up. I hoped they would at least show a clip of them meeting 6 months after...oh well...obviously most people liked this movie, so you should try it yourself to see if its something your would like.
The Notebook (2004)
I laughed...I cried
The Notebook was a fantastic movie. It definitely was a true romance, so if you aren't into romantic movies, don't see it. But, there wasn't any sappiness to it, which was nice. I loved the way they intertwined the past and the present, so you aren't left with any suspense...i hate leaving a movie wondering what will happen next, even if it all fiction!!! The cast did a wonderful job, especially the actress who played Allie. And, i really don't have much left to say, since I do not want to spoil anything...just go see the movie, its a wonderful love story that will make you teary eyed, which we all need every now and then! You definitely feel like you are in the movie, right along with the characters for the whole two hours!
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)
what a fun movie!
OK, I will admit that there was some stupid, EXTREMEMELY unrealistic parts to this movie, but the way it was done, just made it so much fun! Sure, the whole jail thing was stupid and come-on whose gonna have that much fun in jail? But, it had me cracking up and thats what a good movie does! And, when the guys were chasing each other in the fountain....ooooo, so funny. And, yes, Bridget has to shut up sometimes and stop whining, but to a certain extent, we all do! But, girls...don't bring your men to these movies. It's just not something they can appreciate...and if they do, well, i would wonder about them! Just kidding, but, most the people who hated this movie were male, and i don't blame them as it is very much a chick flick!
First Daughter (2004)
Great Acting, awful writing...
OK, I love Katie Holmes and do not regret seeing this movie cuz she was so cute and really did a great acting job, as usual. And, in fact, all the actors did, which shows what talent they have to be able to act in such an awfully written movie. The script was just dull and parts of the movie that were interesting, they chose not to develop. The whole problem with her roommate could have been interesting, but the problems just went away way too quickly. And, the commercials give away that Katie Holmes' character's boyfriend is a bodyguard, which seems to be the whole excitement of the movie. I would recommend that you don't pay money to see this movie, if anything, wait till it comes out on cable, it can't be too far away!
The Terminal (2004)
Tom did it again!
OK, I know...i also really have to give a lot of credit to Spielberg cuz he is the creator of the movie, and not Tom...but I think it was an iffy subject that really wouldnt have been the same if played by any other actor! But, then again, i am a little bias! But, it really was a wonderful movie. I wasn't sure how they were going to make a movie about someone in the airport, but it ended up being real funny and we caught a lot of symbolism in it. I wouldn't say it was very realistic, as another person mentioned, but I would say there are a lot of real issues in the movie, that we have to look at. The ending could have been better, but I didn't leave dissapointed. Besides for everything else, it was a movie that you can sit there, watch, and laugh! What else do you need?
Mean Girls (2004)
Fun movie
Mean Girls was a fun movie that kept me laughing the whole way through. Being a girl who was in high school not too long ago, I can completely relate to the way the "Plastics" were portrayed. Ofcourse, this movie is very exaggerated an the ending was not realistic at all, but isnt that why we like to watch movies? I must also say that the I thought that acting to be very good. Lindsay is adoreable and I cant wait to see more of her movies. The movie was also well written as I expected it to be simply about the cool crowd and the not so cool crowd, but they actually added little bits and pieces that kept me interested. For anyone who just wants to watch a fun, not too deep movie, then this is the movie for you!
Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986)
sweet movie
This was a cute love story that kept me completely involved, even during the sub title part, which i generally do not enjoy. Being Jewish I could understand the conflict Sarah was going through between her family and love...and being in love with Tom Hanks I could completely see why she picked him :). I do not know how I never heard of this movie before, but I definitely enjoyed it. Only thing is, I wish we learnt more about the ending. What happened between Sarah and her family? Did Tom even make it through the war? I kinda wish they let us know...but I guess they let us use our imagination, and mine told me that it all went well! I would recommend this movie to anyone who is in the mood to see a nice, not too deep love story. Guys most likely should stay away!
13 Going on 30 (2004)
Sooooooo cute!
OK, i have to admit that i love any cute, romance comedy type chick flick, so if someone doesnt, this isnt the movie for them. But, for those who love movies like You've got mail, and Pretty Woman, well, you will adore this one as well! It got me crying, which actually doesnt happen so much in movies. Jennifer Gardener was just so much fun. And, if you were around in the 70's you will love the memories the movie will give you. (Even though I wasnt actually alive then, my friend was and she said she got major flashback)And, i know it was very unrealistic, but isnt that why we go to movies? To escape from the real world??? If you want to just lay back, relax, and laugh see this movie, and you will no doubt leave with such a pleasant feeling!
The Ladykillers (2004)
Tom didn't let me down...
Well, everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, but I am just so confused at all the negative comments about this movie! I guess, I am a little bit bias being that Tom is my favorite actor of all times, and this movie just reinforces my notion that he really really is truly talented, but I also really enjoyed the movie. I like seeing movies with unique plots and ideas and this one definately has that. I was a bit iffy on the ending, but after thinking about it more I wouldnt change a thing. I'll admit, that Tom's character was a bit confusing in the way he spoke, and can make someone daze off, but if you really listen, you could see how funny he was being. And, the music wasn't exactly my thing, but as the movie kept going it just seemed so fitting! Over all, this movie was entertaining and that is what is important!
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Lots of stuff in this movie...
OK, i just saw the movie...and i agree...wow. Thats all i can say. This movie made me think. A lot. A lot more than I like to. And, I think that people really have to understand that it isn't actually a science fiction movie. Its a psychological thriller. I can understand that I would be dissapointed if I thought i was seeing a psychological movie and ended up seeing a sci-fi movie, cuz they really are completely different and since im very into the way our minds work I enjoy watching these types of movies and I hate watching science fiction movies. This movie, though, wasn't exactly enjoyable. I would have to be sick to enjoy seeing this stuff...but I still have to call it good. It did everything that a movie should do. It keeps their audience at the edge of their seats the whole time, has very good actors, has a point, and makes people think. I do not have it in me to see this movie ever again, but it is one that I am glad I saw and will still recommend to someone, but only if you can handle it.
