Unexpected Good Movie
31 May 2023
I went into this expecting something poorly acted, predictable, and boring. Instead I got a pretty good movie that was filmed professionally, with very solid acting, and a plot that maybe was predictable with the broad strokes, but not in the details. I've watched a lot of bad movies lately and this is not one of them. If you're not looking for a Pan's Labyrinth type masterpiece and just want a fun movie, check out Influencer! It's much better than the normal Shudder faire.

In addition to the professional look of the movie, we get some spectacular settings (I suspect working on this movie was pretty great). Cast was small but all more than up to the task. Not a deep thinker of a movie, but a fun one nonetheless. Definitely worth a watch, enjoy.

Could have been a good movie but who approved that soundtrack???

A decent movie but for some reason an editor felt it was a good idea to put nails on a chalkboard sounds on repeat in the movie every few minutes. There's a high pitched whine that literally hurts the ears, the sound of a teapot boiling, dogs barking, and what sounds like someone dropping a plastic ball on a wooden table. The noises are completely random to boot, not scene specific or even related to a particular tone within the movie. They just seem randomly interspersed and draws ones attention away from the story. I recommend turing the volume to zero and watching with subtitles. It's the only way to make it bearable. Otherwise, a decent movie, if a little slow and a bit too long. Good luck, don't stray too far from that volume control!

Fun but headache inducing
15 March 2020
A good movie, but the filming is full of abrupt zooms that may give you a headache. I think in an attempt to make it look like behind the scenes filming they made it overly jerky. It felt like a 3 year old was playing with the zoom.

Do not see this movie!
5 November 2016
It's awful, but not the kind of "so bad it's good" awful. It's just awful. Don't waste any time or money on this movie. For the first time ever, I'm going to ask Directv for my money back. You have to believe the police are idiots, disregard any understanding you have about how homes are built, suspend any understanding of human behavior, forget anything you know about human anatomy, and then accept a ton of holes in the plot, setting, and timing of events to even get through this piece of trash. When people go missing, nobody bothers looking for them or even trying to contact them. Police don't investigate crime scenes. When someone is coming to kill you, you don't run, you just scream "no". When you're holding the knob of an open door and someone pulls you from behind, you someone push the door closed. People can live for more than a decade in an intermittently abandoned home without ever having to venture out for anything. Oh, and dead bodies don't smell, even after days of sitting around, or maybe people just disappear when you kill them. These are some of the things you have to accept for this movie to work and it's an incomplete list. Don't. Just don't.

Quarantine (2000 TV Movie)
1/10
I would prefer to watch Sunday morning infomercials
22 June 2013
There were some decently entertaining moments early on, but Quarantine quickly became atrocious. Beyond the bad special effects and boring plot line we are forced to not only accept that the president of The United States of America would routinely put his family and himself in harm's way to comfort the dying, but also we're supposed to accept that it's the right thing to do. This movie starts out mildly entertaining, moves to "so bad it's funny" and winds up at beyond the funny kind of bad and ends on miserable to endure. If you want a good movie, see the Quarantine that takes place in an apartment building. It's much better. If you want a cheesy movie, see Sharktopus.

Buddy (1997)
4/10
Very capable remake of Planet of the Apes
22 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Get your movie off me you damned dirty ape! Sorry to see the chimps exploited in the movie and I wonder where those chimps are now. That being said, the movie was sappy and disappointing. The costuming was great but the movie over all just feels meandering and pointless. There is almost a point where Russo's character realizes that she's abused this animal by having it live like a human but then she misses the realization in favor of the belief that she's somehow still in control of Buddy the gorilla. Would have made a decent Fatal Attractions episode but not a good full length feature film. Go see Chimpanzee instead.
