Horrid Henry (2006)
Can't stand this
I discovered this while watching with my sister's kids and dislike the show. I wasn't happy with the way the parents handle Henry being mean to his brother who is a bit annoying. All they do is day don't be horrid Henry. I can't stand the mother in the show. If this was not a kids show someone would punch him in the face.
The X Files (1993)
Love watching the show
I used to watch this on/off when I was younger but started watching it more when it was on the Spike channel in the UK. During the series we saw Scullys abduction, later her cancer and miraculous pregnancy when she wasn't able to have children due to her abduction. As well as that Mulder got abducted, died and was resurrected from the dead. There were some scenes that were disturbing in the second series a toddler died after being hit by a train. The tenth series was good but I had a few problems with it bringing in Agent Einstein and Agent Miller who were supposed to be a younger Mulder and Scully. As well as the season 10 finale where everyone has the virus apart from Scully and Mulder is dying (for about the thousandth time), Scully tells Agent Miller that the only way she can save Mulder is through Stem cells from her son William who she gave him up for adoption to keep him safe, then Scully says she doesn't know where he is ,an alien ship flies over and the credits roll. I enjoyed most of the series but I wasn't mad about series 9 it wasn't the same when David Duchovny left even though he was in the last episodes of series 9.
Rainbow (1978)
Andrea McArdale miscast
I remember seeing this years ago about Judy Garland in the 1930's before she was a big name when The Wizard Of Oz came out in 1939, I re-watched this lately on you-tube and felt Andrea McArdale was miscast as the teenage Judy Garland. I didn't dislike this film but Andrea McArdale singing voice didn't sound anything like Judy Garland and she looked nothing like her, no one looks exactly like their counterparts in TV movies about famous people (20 something years later Life With Judy Garland came out and I thought some of the actors didn't look like who they were portraying). I'm not trying to sound mean but I felt they made Judy Garland unlikeable/bratty when she was arguing with her mother near the end and made the mother likable, Judy Garland was quoted as saying her mother was the real wicked witch of the west.
Cabaret (1972)
Great film of the 70's
My first encounter of the film when I was around 17, it was shown on the television which was around the 30th anniversary and round the time Liza Minnelli was married to David Gest. As soon as I watched the film I bought it on video for myself and it was a film I watched more than once. The cast were great including Joel Grey, Marisa Berenson and Michael York. Liza Minnelli was great as the Cabaret singer Sally Bowles, there are some scenes where she sounded like her mother Judy Garland for example the part where she tells Brian (Michael York) why she had an abortion. The soundtrack is brilliant my favourite songs are Two Ladies and Money Makes The World Go Round. There were scenes which were disturbing like the dog being killed because it's owner Natalia (Marisa Berenson) was Jewish.
The Big Reunion (2013)
Interesting to watch
I have to admit when some music bands get together again after many years I feel there music is not as good but I enjoyed watching this series. This year involved 3T, Damage, Girl Thing, A1, Eternal and 5th Story (band featuring Kavana, Adam Rickitt, Gareth Gates, Dane Bowers and Kenzie of Blazin Squad). I remember these singers/bands growing up but was surprised they had Girl Thing, I don't think they were well known back in 2000. It was interesting to hear the bands stories before and after they were in the pop scene. The thing that got on my nerves was when they showed the bands performing their songs at The Big Reunion they would cut to one of the acts backstage. The two bands I'd like to see on this series is S Club 7 and Hearsay but I don't think they are planning to reform yet.
Sunset Beach (1997)
Loved the show
I first got into this show in 1999 the year it ended, I would watch it now and then but started to get into it when it was thought Gregory was dead.
Watching old episodes on the Internet I have to laugh at some of the scenes like some of the lines or some of these fantasy's. There are some story's that were over the top e.g Annie giving Olivia some potion to make her drink again.
There are some character's I was never crazy about A.J, Sara, Casey, Gabby. I was disappointed at the fact that Gregory married Annie, she was an interesting character but I liked Gregory and Olivia better as a married couple.
Love Is Strange (1999)
Interesting TV movie
I recently watched this TV movie on sky TV, It was interesting to watch about a woman called Kathryn who is a judge and see's her ex-husband Tom who is a lawyer while at a court case. During the film we find out she has cancer and is wearing a wig, she keeps the cancer hidden from a lot of people apart from her son and his boyfriend (I think). Throughout the film she ends her relationship with her partner and get backs together with her estranged ex husband. The main characters had a son Michael at the beginning he didn't want anything to do with his Dad but at the end they seemed to have reconnected after Kathryn dies. The one problem about this was the flashback to the 70's where they graduate from school/college, Kate Nelligan and Ron Silver who were in their late 40's and early 50's looked out of place in that scene.
Mary Poppins (1964)
One of the best
I first saw this film over 20 years ago back in the days when they had the video player, this is a film I liked better when I got older. This film is about Mary Poppins being a Nanny to two children Jane and Michael (played by Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber) after the nanny leaves because the kids had ran away. There are good songs in this, my favourite songs has to be 'I Love To Laugh' and 'Feed The Bird. My favourite scenes are Mary Poppins singing Feed The Birds and A Spoonful Of Sugar. When I was younger I found the scene when the old man from the bank (played by Dick Van Dyke) dying laughing disturbing but it doesn't bother me much now I am older.
Bonds of Love (1993)
TV movie I saw
I managed to catch this on the television the other night, this is about a man who is mentally challenged who falls in love with a twice divorced girl who is not. A few things that bothered me was the parents and brother, I know they meant well but they never gave the girl who their son fell in love with a chance because of what they heard about her reputation. I'm sure it must be a concern as she had a drink problem and had her children taken away from her but I felt they should of gotten to know her. I felt the acting was good and Treat Williams portrayal as a mentally challenged man was realistic and the rest of the actors were outstanding.
Mrs. Brown's Boys (2011)
Love the show
I first started watching this show almost a year ago and think it's great. There have been loads of posts saying it is rubbish (which is their opinion) but I love the show. Brendan O'Carroll is brilliant playing the mother Agnes Brown, he is hilarious. The other funny characters are the son Rory, Sharon, Buster and Winnie (who is played by Brendan O'Carroll's sister Eilish who I think is just as funny). Some things bothered me about the recent series were Susie Blake as Hilary Nicholson, I have nothing against Susie Blake but I liked Sorcha Cusack better as Hilary, plus I'd like to have seen Winnie's daughter Sharon in it more I thought she was an interesting character.
Pinocchio (1940)
Enjoyed watching it
This film is about a man called Gepetto who wishes that his puppet he made was a real boy, one night the blue fairy comes and brings the puppet Pinocchio to life. Jiminy Cricket who appears at the start and goes into Gepetto's house is made to be Pinocchio's conscience. Throughout the film Pinocchio gets into loads of adventures including getting his father out of Monstro the whale.
I first saw this in the early 90's but didn't watch this properly until about 10 years ago. My favourite scene is the beginning when Jiminy Cricket sings 'When You Wish Upon A Star'. My favourite character in the film was Gepetto's kitten Figaro.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Great film better than the 2005 remake
The first time I saw this film was about 15 years ago when I was at school. This is about Charlie Bucket winning a ticket to go to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with 4 other children. As a kid I found it frightening when Violet turned blue when she had that gum that wasn't meant to be chewed. I liked the songs in the film, I used to find the song Cheer Up Charlie boring but I like it better now I'm older. As much as I love Johnny Depp I thought this version was better than the 2005 remake. Roald Dahl may of disapproved of the film but I thought it was great. I think the all the cast members did a great performance. The one scene that I found boring was when Charlie and his Grandad stole fizzy lifting drink and was floating in the air.
A Child Is Waiting (1963)
Not Judy's best film
I recently watched most of this film on sky TV. Being a fan of Judy Garland I wasn't particularly keen on this film. The thing that bothered me was the parents of the young boy Reuben who was in the home never bothered to visit him, until the end when the Dad watches his play. In the film the doctor tells the father that Reuben is retarded, I'm no doctor but I don't believe he was any way retarded. I think he had autism. Doctors don't always get the diagnosis right, most people with autism don't get diagnosed right away. The one scene that bothered me was the Mother of Reuben played by Gena Rowlands telling Jean (Judy Garland) that she would have to hide Reuben when her friends come.
This Is It (2009)
This was great
I went to the cinema twice last year to see this and thought it was brilliant. Michael's voice sounded great and it was obvious that it was him singing. There was a scene at the start where the dancers and the musicians were talking about working with and they were overwhelmed as though he had just died, even though this was a few months before Michael died. It was good to see him performing his songs that were hits but I'd like to have seen him perform some off his earlier songs like Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, Rock With You, She's Out Of My Life. My favourite songs he performed on This Is It was Wanna Be Starting Something, Jackson 5 Medley, Human Nature, I Just Can't Stop Loving You.
Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story (2004)
Not anything like MJ
This is based on Michael's life from 1983/4 till 2004. Flex Alexander did a good performance but looked nothing like Michael. I feel Michael was portrayed as a stupid person which I don't believe he was (even though he trusted the wrong people at times). I thought Flex Alexander looked Chinese when they made Michael look white. I think Latoya should of been portrayed in this, she was always pictured with her brother in the 80's. I never thought any of the supporting cast looked like their counterparts. There were some things that were inaccurate Lisa-Marie Presley's son looked about 4 in the wedding scene even though he was not yet 2 when Lisa and Michael got married. Also when Michael says to his mother Katherine he thinks he and Debbie should marry if she is carrying his child, it was Katherine's idea for the two to get married.
Moonwalker (1988)
Good film not a classic
I first saw this when they showed this around easter time 1993/4 and didn't think much of it then, I bought this on DVD last summer when I started getting into Michael Jackson (I liked his music before) and enjoyed it more now I am older. It is a good film but it won't be this classic film like The Sound Of Music, West Side Story, The Wizard Of Oz etc. Michael Jackson as an actor was good and so were the other cast members. There were a disturbing scenes like the little girl Katie getting slapped by the gangster Frankie Lideo who was played by Joe Pesci. The scene that frightened me when I was younger was when Michael turns into a robot. My favourite song on the film was Smooth Criminal I think it was better than Thriller in my opinion.
Peter Pan (1953)
One of the best Disney films
I first saw this at the cinema back in the 90's, this is probably one of the best Disney films that were made. This is my favorite Peter Pan film that has been made, I didn't care much for the version with Jeremy Sumpter that came out about six years ago. My favorite part was when Peter met the Darling kids John, Michael + Wendy and sprinkles pixie dust on them to make them fly. I also liked the part when the John, Michael and the lost boys sing 'Following The Leader'. I can't explain why but I couldn't take Captain Hook seriously as a villain. I felt they shouldn't of made the sequel back in 2002, the sequels are as never as good as the originals.
Green Mansions (1959)
OK film but wasn't the most popular of Audrey or Anthony
I first saw this on TCM about a year ago. This was good but it wasn't a classic like the other films Audrey Hepburn or Anthony Perkins made after Green Mansions e.g Psycho, Breakfast At Tiffanys, My Fair Lady. I loved Audrey's hairstyle in the film, it looked different to other hairstyles she has in her films before and after. I think Mel Ferrer who was Audrey's husband at the time directed this good. I think Anthony Perkins was great as Audrey's love interest and I love his voice. The supporting cast acted well and I loved the deer Ip. I was disappointed at the end when Rima gets killed by the Indians then Able dies, I makes me sad because they are both no longer with us.
My Girl (1991)
Great watch
I first saw this on sky TV when I was a kid and thought it was great. This film is about an 11 year old girl called Vada Sultenfuss who lives in a funeral home where her father is an undertaker and her Grandmother who I believe has Alzheimers. Vada's best friend is Thomas J played by Macauly Culkin, she is also in love with her teacher Mr Bixler. During the film Vada experiences his Dad falling in love with Shelly (Jamie Lee Curtis)who does make up for the corpses, her obsession with death, her period, her grandmother having Alzheimer's and Thomas J dying of bee stings (he had an allergy to everything). I think there was a bit of foreshadowing earlier in the film when Thomas J asked what heaven is like and Vada says when there running from the bees you'll get stung. I think Anna Chlumsky acted well during the funeral of Thomas J even though I found her character annoying.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Favourite Burton film
This film is about a boy whose inventor (played by Vincent Price) gave him scissors for hands. I first saw this film when I became a fan of Johnny Depp three years ago. Johnny Depp is great in the role and he looked unrecognisable with all the makeup he had on. Winona Ryder did a good job of portraying the teenage daughter Kim Boggs. Diane Wiest and Alan Arkin were a good supporting cast as the husband and wife Bill and Peg. Peg reminded me of Renee Zellwegger, there voices are similar. When I first saw Wait Until Dark on telly I never realised Bill (the Dad played by Alan Arkin) was the villain who terrorises Audrey Hepburn. There were a few scenes that bugged me were when after Edward gets arrested why didn't Kim tell her parents or the police that Jim tricked Edward to breaking into his house.
Definitely, Maybe (2008)
OK film
I bought this on DVD the other day, it was OK but it could of been better. The film is about Maya (Abigail Breslin) guessing who her Mother could be. I did find the scene where Maya asking her Dad about her conception a little disturbing and the scene where she talks about private parts. I do wonder how Abigail Breslin's family felt about her saying those lines. April's (Isla Fisher) voice was irritating but I thought she was a good character. Summer (Rachel Weiss) was an OK character. I didn't get why Emily (Elizabeth Banks) who turned out to be Maya's mother was in her daughters life and I didn't know why she left her daughter with her father. I wasn't impressed with the deleted scenes on the DVD.
Coach Trip (2005)
Enjoyable show
I first saw this TV series when it was on Channel 4 back in 2005 and enjoyed it. I have recently started watching the re-runs on sky digital. I couldn't stand Sally, Pasquale, Max (seemed full of himself), Barbara and Pete, Nathan and Gavin. Barbara and Pete kind of reminded me of my aunt and her husband because they hadn't been abroad before, neither have they. My favourite episode is when they went to Salzburg because I love The Sound Of Music where part of it was filmed. I never understood why Gavin and Nathan stayed until the end, the other contestants found them annoying. I was glad when Thadie and Dorothy got voted off, I didn't like them much for trying to manipulate the voting.
The Unforgiven (1960)
Not Audrey's best
I first saw this when I got the DVD two years ago. It was OK but not the best film Audrey Hepburn made. I found it pointless that they cast Audrey Hepburn as an Indian, she wasn't even Indian. The score was beautiful. I thought most of the characters were ignorant about the Indians. But there are people out there who are racist. I have no idea why but those scenes where Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn gaze into each others eyes bug me. Audrey wore some great clothes. I thought there were some disturbing scenes such as Charlie getting killed and Matilda (Lillian Gish) hanging that man when he was going to say that Rachael was an Indian.
Raising Helen (2004)
Nice family film
I first saw this when I bought this is on DVD a while ago. It was a great film but there were some sad bits. It is about the death of Paul and Lindsay who left her youngest sister Helen to be guardian of her three children Audrey, Sarah and Henry. The one thing that annoyed me about this film was Joan Cusack's character Jenny, the character got on my nerves I found her smug when Helen gave the kids to her after Audrey went to the hotel with the boy from her high school. Abigail Breslin was adorable as the youngest child Sarah, Spencer Breslin and Hayden Paniettere were great as the older siblings Audrey and Henry. Helen Mirren was great as Helen's boss Dominique.
Help! (1965)
Just got this on DVD today
I bought this on DVD today and enjoyed it very much. I thought it might of been one of those films that I thought I would enjoy but didn't. There are times when I wished that I was alive in that decade (1960's). Eleanor Bron was great as Ahme, it was different from her role as Cathy Manchester in Two For The Road which came out two years after Help!. I'm sure other people have said this but it was ironic that one of the characters who is after the ring that Ringo is wearing tries to shoot John Lennon. My favourites songs on it were 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away' and 'Ticket To Ride'. I thought the clothes on it were cool, especially Ahme's clothes.
