The Batman (2022)
Remember 90 minute movies?
The casting is great, all actors did a great job and looked great. That said, this looked like a videogame storyline where the guy goes from checkpoint to checkpoint gathering clues. The romantic scenes looked like a perfume ad, so that tells you how direction was really on the nose when it comes to tone. No meaningful character development, just plot exposition. And in Batman's universe, everything has been done before, so this story really felt like it was told before a million times, and this version did not have any meaningful twist that could carry a movie. I think this is the first Batman film that does this. So this is just a boring, mediocre film about a weird rich dude that is learning to use his weird gadgets while getting in the way of public servants like the police or the fire department. For Batman fans, I think there is better fan fiction or videogames out there. I rank this way down the list of Batman movies. Before Batman and Robin, after Batman Forever (Jim Carrey/fun/not 3 hours long).
Killing Eve: I Hope You Like Missionary! (2019)
Promising show that just stopped making sense
So a big tech billionaire just lets his sister's new acquaintance from AA on to dinner, right after someone on his staff, his sister's bodyguard, is suspiciously ran over by a truck? Every character is now aimlessly conceding to every crazy idea the writers cobble up to move the story forward. In a couple of episodes, the MI6 is now knowingly working with Villanelle, a former contract killer for underground crime overlords that left a trail of bodies the size of the wall of China. And now, working with MI6 and under Eve, she just kills and does whatever she feels like.... and no one cares! They just get her on to the next assignment. Just by reading this episode recap you can see how little sense everything makes.
Middleditch & Schwartz (2020)
Great, more please
This is incredibly smart and surprisingly creative. Really funny. Could watch a whole lot more of these.
