My New Gun (1992)
3/10
A pointless and disappointing movie
11 May 2004
I watched this movie and found it to be extremely disappointing. There were one or two slightly humorous scenes, the plot was very slight. The story revolved around what happened when Diane Lane's character & her husband when they buy a new gun and cross path's with their neighbour "Skippy". I kept waiting for something interesting to happen but it just didn't. The acting was decent enough but the pace of the movie was very slow & uninteresting. The character of Lane's husband played by Stephen Collins was extremely annoying. I also saw Happiness which was mentioned in one of the reviews of this movie, I was disgusted with it and did'nt find it to my taste at all.

I personally thought this one one of Diane Lane's worst movies. 3/10

Pearl Harbor (2001)
7/10
A Surprisingly Good War/Romantic Movie
10 May 2004
I have read alot of the negative publicity which surrounded this movie on it's release. It seemed to me few critics had anything good to say about it. In fact everyone seems to be calling the film a failure saying it bombed at the box office. Yet according to this website the budget was $135 million and it made $450 million worldwide, which seems like a decent profit to me.

Anyway When I watched it recently on TV I was Pleased to find that this was actually a good movie.

I enjoyed the 3 hour experience more than Saving Private Ryan (although it was probably not as good critically). Pearl Harbor was well made, the acting from the three main leads though not spectacular, was certainly adequate, Ben Affleck was quite good as the square jawed all American Hero type, Josh Hartnett was not bad either as his quieter best friend and Kate Beckinsale proved an attractive and quite engaging female lead (this was actually the first time I had seen her in a movie). The special effects were superb and the battle sequences realistic. Also some of the smaller parts, most notably Alec Baldwin as Affleck's commanding Officer & Jon Voight as President Roosevelt were very well acted indeed.

I rated this film 6 or 7 out of 10, Ignore the bad reviews watch it and judge for yourself.

A disappointing TV Movie
21 April 2004
I quite like Helen Slater I've seen her a few times so i tuned in to watch this movie after reading the comments on here and the storyline, I thought it may be okay. Unfortunately it turned out to be another one of these routine women in peril movies. although very similar in plot it was nowhere near as good as "Wait until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn, or even "Blink" with Madeleine Stowe & "Jennifer Eight" with Uma Thurman, I thought all the above movies were better. The Bad guys in "Nowhere in Sight" were stupid morons and the female character had to be blind otherwise she would've outwitted them no problem. The surprise Twist that someone close to her was in with the two crooks was'nt that surprising either. I would have to give this 3/10 if you have something better to do give this a miss, this is only for die hard Helen Slater fans. She even sings on the sountrack (Her singing was a decent effort but forgettable).

My Dog Skip (2000)
4/10
Reasonable film but nothing special
13 April 2004
I have seen many films like this before, it's basically another coming of age drama only this time with a dog. If you go in for these type of films then it is a treat if it's not really your thing it's still quite pleasant. The performances could not be faulted nor the direction but it was nothing out of the ordinary for me. In the scene near the end when skip gets hit with a metal shovel by one of the mean men in the film and it looks like he may die (a trick used by director's to get the tears flowing) you just know he is going to live & there are many of the other usual elements that this type of film has. I would say it was really just a TV Movie made as a big screen film.

maybe 5/10
