Silent Hill (2006)
The best video-game adaptation, ever! You'll love it!
I have been a long-time fan of the Silent Hill video games and I waited for this film for more than a year. And I must say, it was worth the wait! For those who are fans of the video games, you are going to LOVE this film! I personally guarantee it. The atmosphere was dead on, the acting was great, the plot is damn-close to the video game, and the music is straight out of the video game.
But, this is not just a video-game adaptation for those of you who are not familiar with the video games. It is also a great film on it's own for the general audience. In the early points of the film, the movie is in video-game mode which later on moves to film mode. The movie points out everything that was taken from the video game in the early parts of the movie, but once the movie goes further along, it's all about the plot, the performances, and the outcome of the film.
Trust me! You are going to love what Chris Gans and Roger Avary have done here! It is incredible work and I wouldn't exchange it for anything else! 9/10
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Absolutely magnificent! All-Time #1 of Disney's best!
There are nearly no words to describe how truly incredible this film is in almost every way possible. Everything is right up front and done beautifully; the cinematogrophy, the graphics, the frame rate, the development of the characters, the voice-acting, the layout of the plot, the music, the emotional impact, everything! I don't even know where to begin explain the power of this film. But to start, I am more than impressed with the graphics considering the computer technology that was available through 1989-1991. We were still running 386 PC's with Windows 3.1! To continue, the music is awesome and each song comes in at just the right time! While watching this film, you would say to yourself "I'd like to hear a song right about now." And it happens! Which is a 1 in a 1,000,000 chance of happening and it does just that in Beauty in the Beast. And every character has an excellent personality that develops smoothly and you never get bored with them whether you love or hate them. It is sad, however, that Howard Ashman died six months before the theatrical premiere of the film. To continue, this film truly teaches you the lesson of understanding people and love them for who they are and not for what they are or how repulsive they can be. And aside from the characters different from the novel, the heart of the story remains untainted. And it's truly enjoyable for all ages young and old. I'll be watching this film until I live to be 80 years old. The best film Disney has ever made. 10/10
Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness (1994)
The best of the QFG series! And truly a masterpiece!
This is most definitely my #1 favorite game for the personal computer! It takes place in Mordavia of Transylvania where the townsfolk are very suspicious and paranoid of the recent horrors that have been taking place. As the hero, it's your job to set things right and earn the villager's trusts. I wont spoil the game for you but it's worth playing! The graphics are absolutely beautiful considering they're hand-painted! And the game is nearing a decade old to date. The storyline is awesome and full of mystery that urges you to play more to find out what's really going on and who you can really trust. The music is sensational and nicely recorded. And the game itself has voice-overs the whole way through with a killer cast including John Rhys-Davies, Jennifer Hale, Russi Taylor, Diane Pershing and Many more!!! And the characters are very vibrant and fun to talk to so you never get bored with them along with excellent replay value which every Action/RPG should be blessed with. And puzzles that give you just the right challenge to make you think but not enough for you to strain for the answer. Everything is very well played out and all the cards are laid right on the table with this title. (As long as you know what you're doing.) If you can get a hold of a 486 PC with Windows 95 installed and working audio, you will have a blast and one of the best times of your life with PC gaming. I also forgot to mention that the day/night system is SWEET!!! Different events occur at different times of the day which is a huge help to layout of the game's plot. If you haven't played Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness, you don't know what you're missing! 10/10!!! It deserves it!
Kingdom Hearts (2002)
The last 30+ hour MOVIE before Squaresoft became Squeenix!
Back in the early to mid 90's. Squaresoft really had it going for them with Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy II(IV), Final Fantasy III(VI), Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve, and Einhander. This company has almost completely deteriorated from their commitment to quality altogether and have instead decided to make money by showing off their killer graphic engine. People need to understand that it's gameplay and replay value that are first priority and not frame rate or realism. And now Squaresoft has merged with Enix(An RPG development team FAR SUPERIOR to Squaresoft.) So who knows how this will turn out. Hopefully Enix will straighten out the guys at Square and get back on track with good games that are worth keeping for a lifetime once you buy them.
Aliens (1986)
"Get away from her you BITCH!"
One of the most intense and outrageously astounding films I have ever seen in my life all in a matter of Sci-fi, horror, action, drama, and the incredible bond between all the characters. Cameron out-did himself by a long shot in making this movie. He really pulled it off in surpassing it's predecessor.
The aliens were that much more awesome and everyone made an amazing performance. Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Jennifer Goldstein, Carrie Henn, and the BAD-ASS Sigourney Weaver! An incredible actress and one of the strongest heroines of all time. A woman who can rip s*** like noone's business and still stay gentle at heart. Her bond and relationship with Newt is beautiful and emotionally awesome.
Cameron brought a whole new side to Ripley when he wrote in the character of Newt. Even at the end of the movie when Newt reaches to Ripley she says "Mommy!" Ripley really loved her like her own child and would not let her go. I fell even more in love with Weaver's performance afterward.
Not to mention this movie is loaded with tons of classic lines that I still recite to myself because they're so clever! "Guess she don't like the corn bread either." "It doesn't mean we're engaged or anything." "I may be synthetic but I'm not stupid." "LET'S ROCK!!!" "And you, you little s*** head, you're staying here." "This bulls*** that you think is so important, you can just kiss all that good-bye!" "I knew you'd come..." "C'MON GOD DAMMIT!!!" "Get away from her you BITCH!" This line is definitely my most favorite of them all and always will be!
As for the music, most inspiring and emotionally powerful. Especially the song used at the end of the original theatrical trailer. Awwww!!! I can't help but give an evil smile and get goosebumps every time I hear that song! Even the opening theme kicked ass.
So there you have it! Aliens defines the best of the best in sci-fi and the Alien saga all-together. Aliens will always remain my favorite no matter what anyone says. And if you haven't seen this yet then you don't know what you're missing. You will NOT be disappointed! Even if you don't like sci-fi you'll have a blast. It's a total blow-away!
SHEER PERFECTION!!! 9/10
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Stupid and overrated!
This is EXACTLY the kind of movie that keeps floating around and everyone thinks it's so damn great when it's not! Think about it, a little alien-like creature(Who's not even a real alien!) heals things with his finger, makes bicycles fly, plays with stuffed animals and eats reeses pieces. Maybe it gets too much attention because it's a spielburg flick who's already done WAYYYYYY more than enough for directing. You want a good sci-fi movie? Watch Aliens with the bad-ass Sigourney Weaver. THAT'S what you need to watch. Not this rubbish! This movie SUCKS!!! --End of story. -30/10
