Don't waste your time and money to be dumbed down
11 November 2016
I truly can't believe the garbage Hollywood is putting out these days. The thinly veiled political messages, the complete lack of scientific factual logic, it just goes on and on. Dumbed down audiences gobble it up. This was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. And oh yeah, I "get it". Believe me people don't waste your money on this garbage. You've seen the same story many times before. Garbage! There really isn't much else to say. People can go on and on about how this movie makes you think, blah blah blah. It makes me think I'm truly sick of Hollywood's leftist messages. It makes me think I'm better off watching PBS. Anyone with any amount of logic will see the flaws in this film.

Star Trek (2009)

Trek fans avoid at all costs!
17 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
First of all let me start out by saying I am a Trek fan. I love the original series. Not the kind of fan that knows everything that happened to everybody in every episode on every stardate type of fan, but a fan nonetheless. The last few movies were dull and I never even bothered to watch The Enterprise TV series. When I heard a new movie was in the works I was very happy. Once I heard JJ Abrams was directing my heart sank (still can't forgive him for what he turned Lost into).

First of all the plot is so full of holes the whole starfleet could fly through. Why is it that a cadet crew (some not even cadets yet) are the only ones who can save a planet or two? The movie relies too much on visual effects and too little on plot. The effects got boring after awhile. The time travel thing has been done and done so many times it's obvious the writers can't come up with new ideas. Even if we are to accept this is some alternate universe/timeline, it still doesn't explain how Chekhov aged so closely to Kirk. In the original series he was only 22 and Kirk in his 30's. In the original series no one knew what Romulans looked like or that they were similar to Vulcans, yet it's common knowledge in the film. None of the movie makes sense. You have to have a lack of imagination to truly enjoy this film. Leonard Nimoy doesn't even seem like his old character.

I saw this with both trek and non trek fans and everyone agreed it dragged on too long, was boring & they couldn't wait for it to be over. Star Trek needs to take another long rest and any future movies must not involve JJ Abrams. This is not Star Trek reimagined, it is Star Trek rewritten.

Starman (1986–1987)

They don't make TV like this anymore
25 November 2005
This was a great show. The series was a sequel to the theatrical film of the same name, although with entirely new actors. The episodes focused on Paul Forrester "Starman" and his 14 year old son Scott Hayden, in their quest to find Scott's mother Jenny Hayden. Constantly on their tail was federal agent George Fox, seeking to capture them. Most episodes showed how Starman learned not only about living on Earth, but about being a father to Scott. There were some genuine touching moments as they both loved and lost, and always had to move on to another location. Although a sci-fi series, the episodes all had human interest stories.

Today's sci-fi shows are all about special effects and gore. No sci-fi show comes close to being what Starman was. It's a shame that this series isn't on DVD. Since it only ran one season and the studio that owns the rights seems to have an aversion to 80's shows, it most likely never will. If the sci-fi channel ever shows the reruns again, and you've never seen this show, tape them and watch them with your family. There is no gore and almost no violence. This a family viewing series.

The Bermuda Depths (1978 TV Movie)

Truly sad
6 March 2004
After reading the other comments here, I see that this movie does truly affect people. The one and only time I saw this movie before last night, was when it first aired when I was only 4 years old. The turtle and Jennie's eyes were pretty much the only thing I remembered. Somehow this movie stuck out on my mind. I searched the web for it, not knowing the title but finally find it. I searched the web for a copy and finally found one. I watched it last night and got the full effect of it. This is actually such a sad, haunting tale of forbidden love and sadness.

The effects are good for its time and for a made for TV movie. The music is what conveys the sadness and gives the viewer a haunting sense of love that could never be and loss. This movie is many things-a love story, an adventure, a sci-fi movie and a fantasy movie. I'm so glad I was able to finally find it and see it as an adult so that I could get the full feel of it. I can see why so many others have had a lasting impression of it.

The acting is believable although not a full effort by some characters. Overall this movie is a definitely a must see for lovers of many genres.
