Spontaneous (2020)
This movie bothered me a lot and I am glad
I rarely see movie that can move me this deeply and shake me to my core. I don't recall school shootings being so prevalent as a kid and now they have become a norm. This movie uses imploding as a metaphor for school shootings.
I love how nonsensical this movie is - the point of the movie is that life doesn't always make sense. People imploding like balloons for no reasons. One minute they are alive and the next they are gone.
I felt sad that these characters had to face a fate that was tragic, surprising and horrifying.
The media have done a great job at desensitizing the viewers to events that should make us mad as hell. School shootings have become a norm and this movie replace the randomness of teenagers being killed by guns to just imploding.
This movie is pure genius as it is very disturbing.
If you are horrified, it did it's job. This movie doesn't make sense because random murders don't make sense.
Effie Gray (2014)
One not to be missed
This movie is well made and calls for the audience to reflect and understand Effie. She is stifled and oppressed by a rigid and unloving husband.
If you feel stifled or unhappy, then you are understanding Effie. This is a great movie!
Monsterland: New Orleans, Louisiana (2020)
Very interesting
I love this show. It is really well done, it leads the audience to think. Also, it allows for imagination and creativity. I love how the horror of the show is based on the issues that Americans are facing right now. From poverty, medical illnesses, lack of insurance to systemic oppression, the monsters aren't as scary as reality. It is very forward thinking. It is not a horror show per se, as much as a sociological study of the horrors of living in the modern times.
The Lost Husband (2020)
This is a sweet escape
I have grown disillusioned that movie makers could just tell a story without violence and special effects. This movie is sweet and a nice change from the usual dystopian bs.
I highly recommend it!
Circus of Books (2019)
Really moving documentary
"Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans" John Lennon
This is a fascinating documentary about a Jewish family "The Masons" and their business Circle of Books "Gay Adult Bookstore." The director (Rachel Mason) did a fine job in contrasting the evolution of her family with the world.
What I love most about this documentary are the Masons, they are so sweet and kind. The director travels back to the eighties and explore the social political climate of that decade which permitted this business to thrive but also the challenges it faced during the Reagan presidentship.
I would love to meet Rachel and her family to give them a hug and a huge thank you. The Masons are the very example of what people should strive to be, smart, open minded and kind.
I was moved by them and it is not about gay pornography but rather about the freedom to be your own true self in a world that often forces individuals to conform to unhealthy beliefs and outdated self righteous morals.
Castle Rock: Let the River Run (2019)
Season 2 is awesome
Lizzy Kaplan is amazing as Annie Wilkes. I wasn't expecting much however I was pleasantly surprised and can't wait to see more episodes. Last season left me dissatisfied and feel that this season will be clearly superior.
Eli (2019)
I hated it
It was predictable and the end was utterly disappointing. It's really sad to see many good actors let down by a terrible screenplay. The budget or the the perfect set couldn't save it.
Save yourself and pass this one!
Glitch (2015)
Super disappointed by the end
The end was pulled together without a real concept. It's a very punitive tv show which is cruel to both the actors who did a fine job and the viewers who expect a well thought out end.
I love the show but really hated the end.
Ladies in Black (2018)
Very endearing movie
I absolutely enjoyed this movie. It's a coming of age period drama sets in the late fifties. The fashion, the set, the music and the excellent acting brought to life a very well written screenplay.
I recommend this movie wholeheartedly.
The Twilight Zone: Replay (2019)
Thought provoking
I read all of the reviews and disagree with most of them. Many reviewers feel that Jordan Peel shouldn't have anything to do with the Twilight Zone because he is too political and boring.
There is nothing worst than a remake that is just a repeat version of the past.
Jordan Peele is not Rod Sterling and that's great because he bring his own social cultural political views to his work.
This episode is well written and acted. It is relevant "cameras are as powerful as guns"
Long Lost Family (2016)
Best show ever
This is one of the best shows on television and I can't imagine it going off the air. I am the parent of an adopted child and it is so important for adoptive parent to hear the perspective of adoptees and their birth family.
It's a beautiful show and I am moved every time.
Bitch (2017)
Really well made movie about having a psychotic break
If you want to see a feel good movie, watch a Disney movie. The character development is brilliant. The husband is a narcisstic waste of space who has accessorized his life with a stay at home wife and four kids. He is disloyal to everyone because he only cares about himself. His wife Jill eventually has a psychotic break which forces him to step up. He seeks out the help of his sister in law because he can't do it on his own.
There are some funny moments however this is a movie that calls to reflection. It is a very uncomfortable story about being a wife to a selfish man and mother to entitled kids. The children are awful too and lack empathy towards their mother.
Don't be overly critical of it, watch it with an open-mind!
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Mental Health Disease is not appealing
I can count on my hands the number of movies that are good enough to see in a movie theater and Silver Lining Playbook is one of them. This movie is filled with humor, love and drama. We all have heard of mental health disease. What this movie does well is add the human aspect! No one wants a mentally deranged neighbor or co-worker and it is really hard to go back to a regular life after spending time in a mental health facility. Pat, Our anti-hero is presented to us on the day of his release from his mental health facility. He is on a mission to get his wife back no matter what! He moves back with his parents but he has no means since he lost his job. His parents are absolutely loving and very encouraging. Pat's life would remain on the same path but he meets the beautiful and troubled Tiffany who needs help with a dance recital.
