The Way Way Back (2013)
Best movie of the summer. It's a shame more people don't know about this one!
***There probably aren't any spoilers so don't worry just wanted to be safe and not get banned***
What a breath of fresh air this movie was! I mean to have a summer filled with plot-less action cheap thrill movies or stupid trying-too-hard-to-be-funny comedies there is finally a silver lining- a movie that we can connect with in some way. That's exactly what the way way back brings to the table. So here's a breakdown of the key elements that made this movie great:
Acting: the acting in this movie was very believable. Duncan's character especially with the way he slouched over and got all tongue tied like any awkward 14 year old would. But the most impressive performance was definitely Steve Carell. To go completely out of his comfort zone and play a douchebag for the first time ever - I didn't think he could pull it off, but he did in a BIG way.
Writing/Directing: the script and dialogue in this movie were superb. Not too many cheap one-liners and everything just flowed. Faxon and Rash did a great job keeping it nice and simple.
And finally the biggest element in my opinion: being able to relate. We've all been in a situation where it really sucked and we had to make the best of it somehow. And for me personally, I really saw a lot of my 14 year old self in Duncan. The awkwardness and shyness is all too familiar.
All in all it was really a great summer movie for all audiences, highly recommend it!
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
Why this show only lasted 1 year, I have no idea...
Freaks and Geeks was a fantastic show with an all star cast (at the time they were soon- to-be all stars) about growing up and dealing with the struggles of high school. This show impressed me mostly by accomplishing its goal in 13 episodes. It's clear to a lot of people that this show should have lasted for years and multiple seasons because of how good the story and the characters were developing, very good acting by very talented young actors/actresses.
It's pretty much telling us how life was for teenagers in the 1980s through the points of views of different high school social groups like the stoners, nerds, cheerleaders, etc. and does a pretty good job of that.
The show is pretty funny but can also be serious yet smart and clever at the same time. All in all a very good teenage show, probably one of the greatest of all Time. My review: 10/10
That '80s Show (2002)
Terrible. Just plain terrible...
for those of u who think this show can even compare with that 70s show you are completely mistaken. This show tries way too hard to be funny with all of the unneeded laugh tracks. They never really have us a chance to even connect with the characters! Very bad show... Too rushed...
What a terrible show! In gonna repeat my reasons why this show was a disaster: bad acting tries too hard to be funny unneeded laugh tracks no character development no story development
Just a horrible show! I can't believe these same people made that 70s show! That 70s show sets the standard for teen sitcoms and this just make teens look stupid! I, as a teen an offended by the stereotyping that this show does. Sad excuse for a show. My rating: 1/10
Easy A (2010)
So easy to enjoy! Emma stone shines!
What a hilarious teen comedy Easy A was about a girl named Olive Pendergast who fakes losing her virginity to gain popularity at her high school. Emma stone shines in her much needed lead role
Olive Pendergast is a high school student at a well kept up school in a small community. When the rumor spreads that she has lost her virginity, she is labeled as the school wh*re. Embracing her new label, she sews a red A on all of her clothing, copying what she read from her English book "the Scarlett Letter". She then finds that her popularity turns to infamy and she wants her life back. Will things turn back to normal? Watch to find out!
This movie is perfect for older teens (15-18) in high school and will make you laugh while being a smart movie at the same time. I recommend this movie. Review: 9/10
Take Me Home Tonight (2011)
Not a top-notch comedy, but a very enjoyable and relatable film.
Take Me Home Tonight was a pretty funny comedy starring Topher Grace and Anna Ferris. It's a story about an MIT college grad named Matt who is currently working at a video store in the mall because he is confused and doesn't know what he is going to do with his life. Everything changes when his high school crush, Tori, walks into the video store. Matt (after pretending not to work at the video store by changing out of his uniform) is told by tori to come to Kyle's party. Matt goes through some crazy things to impress tori like telling her he works at Goldman Sachs and (with the help of his friend Barry) he steals a Mercedes Benz to take to the party.
**********Now I can't tell you how the rest of the film goes so you'll have to see it for yourself!*************
Take me home tonight was a very enjoyable comedy that a lot of teenagers can relate to. This is why I think teenagers (like myself) are the REAL intended audience for this movie. All in all, a great feel-good comedy. Rating 7/10
No One Would Tell (1996)
An OK movie, but it sends an important message that things like this can really happen.
This movie was OK for the most part. Not a big fan of Candace Cameron but I do like Savage. The only reason why I saw this movie was because of a lesson in health class (yes im a teenager) on relationship abuse, so I really appreciate a movie over some notes or worksheets. But most importantly this movie sends a very important message about abusive relationships, don't ask for help or try to escape when it's too late, get help immediately.
Candace Cameron (I forget her characters name i thinks it's Stacy) is surprised to find that one of the most athletic and popular boys in school, bobby, has a crush on her. They go out and the relationship grows more serious to the point where the two have sex (where bobby forced her to by saying it proves her love for him). The girl then finds herself a victim of abuse when bobby hits her for talking to other guys, not doing the things he asks her to do (because she must obey him). When she finally has the courage to leave him, bobby snaps. He finds a quiet place by a lake at night and stabs the main character until death. Her body is found and Bobby's friend who was there that night confesses that bobby was the one to kill her, wrap her body and throw her body into the lake. Bobby is sent to prison for life and justice is served. A pretty OK movie, good lesson though. I give it a 6.5/10
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990)
What a breath of FRESH air!
Man, where do I start? This show is one of the best and funniest comedies I have ever seen. The characters are original, and are humorous in their own ways (with will smith being the front runner). The acting is believable. The storyline is terrific and the humor just keeps on comin! Nonstop humor in EVERY episode is what makes the fresh prince of bel air special and unique in a good way!
It all begins when a young man from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania known as will smith is sent by his mother to live with his aunt viv (her sister) and his uncle Phil to have a better life in Bel-Air, California (near Los Angeles). We find Will getting into A whole bunch of trouble with his uncle, getting into a lot of misadventures and Mishaps with his preppy, nerdy cousin Carlton banks, and having an influence (good or bad) on his little cousin, Ashley Banks. The oldest of the banks children, Hilary, is a very pretty woman yet she is spoiled by her father and is not the brightest of the banks children. And last, but certainly not least, there's Geoffery (nicknamed "G"), the family Butler. Geoffery works hard for the family but always has something smart to say with some sass or attitude. All in all, a great show. I would recommend it. Rating: 4.5/5
That '70s Show (1998)
Can't say enough about how much I love this show
This show is straight up hilarious!!!!!!!! One character is not funnier than the other. In my opinion they are all hilarious in their own way . if you're a teenager in high school like I am this show will really speak to you like it has to me.
Every episode is better than the one before it and the humor is consistent and (most importantly), relateable as well! The storyline is great. The acting is believable and realistic. You feel like you're a part of the gang every time you watch! Don't you wish you were down in that basement too??? You'll laugh you'll cry and at the end of the day you'll definitely fall In love with this show. Only one other word besides awesome can describe this show... Genius.... Just pure genius.
