Painkiller (2023)
Stupid and everything so on the nose!
The series also presents drug addiction in a very clichéd and lazy way.
The main character's drug addiction doesn't have any major effect on the family situation, other than that the family members are angry. The series does say that drugs ruin not only the life of the user but also the life of the whole family, but they don't know how or dare to show this. Sure, the man dies at the very end, but before that, his drug addiction has little effect on the family's everyday life or finances. Likewise, the series also shows family members as people who do not know how to support a person fighting addiction. They are even shown as people who drive a person in rehabilitation out of the house at the very moment when he needs it the most.
The series is also overacted, poorly written and directed. Some of the scenes are like poorly imitated scenes from Wolf Of Wallstreet. And some of the scenes are so clearly scenes where you want to bring out "your personal feeling and empathy" that even the dumbest people understand it. "Look, this is what I would like to do to this bad man" "I am a good person when I show that I feel bad for the victims". And this atmosphere is strongly present throughout the entire series. I think this kind of approach is very demeaning, especially since I myself have experienced drug addiction.
If you want quality, watch the movie Traffic or the TV series Dopesick.
Painkiller: Hot! Hot! Hot! (2023)
Worst episode so far
I really hate it when TV shows and movies portray withdrawal and getting rid of addiction in such a way that it only takes one painful night.
Similarly, the TV program mainly presents addiction in such a way that the person is mostly just a little addicted and asks for help to get substances. The drugs didn't seem to have made any changes to the man's physique. His actions don't seem to have any major effect on the family other than making the family members angry. He has not yet lost his company, family savings, car. There is nothing more that he is intoxicated, nothing else major has happend. He sold some tools and a wedding ring, that is it.
