Rush's Snakes and Arrows Blu-Ray ROCKS
25 February 2024
While I have most of Rush's concert discs, the Snakes and Arrows Blu-Ray so far ranks #1 with regards to sound and picture quality.

First the sound, which I believe Rush guitar player Alex Lifeson was partially responsible for, showing up as half the mixing team in the credits. Overall sonically this was mixed with a perfect balance of "studio quality" versus live venue-esque sound. I'm sure the live audio engineering performed throughout the nights performance also contributed to the excellent sonic characteristics of this concert disc as well.

Everyone's instruments were very well balanced, really displaying how they were possibly very well playing at the top of their musicianship game on this tour. Do yourself a favor and make sure you select the "DTS 5.1" soundtrack as I believe it defaults to "Stereo 2.0".

Neil's steadfast hard hitting approach on the drums, including subtleties most drummer cannot replicate, is still astounding. I've never heard Geddy's voice sound so good, seriously he somehow was able to replicate the same vocal range of each of the song's studio versions he recorded up to 30 years prior. And his base playing is unreal, with the aforementioned excellent sound track of this film really making his Rickenbacker and Fender Jazz bass guitars sound phenomenal. Alex didn't miss a note with his guitar playing, and his use of guitar pedal effects was very tasteful and true to the original songs.

Although you can probably assume Alex has lost a little bit of his hearing as the upper mid range can be a bit brash. This usually results from overcompensating for such while mixing in the studio due to ones lack of being able to hear well at certain sonic frequencies.

Regarding the video quality of the concert it is as top-notch as it gets obviously managed by a very professional and well-versed film production crew. The intermingling of the fairly hefty 3-screen rear stage video experience with the substantial amount of live shot angles was very professionally done.

On that note the produced footage shown on these rear screens, as well as in its full quality form from time to time, was as quirky and fun as you'd expect from such a cool band. Loved the behind-the-scenes look at those "mini productions", including the Easter egg only found on the Blu-ray disc's menu in the "Bonus Material" section by navigating all the way down to the bottom selection, navigating down one more step so nothing is highlighted, then clicking enter... Watch and find out!

I have watched all their concert vids from Exit Stage left, A Show Of Hands (so good, wish they had better master material), up through R30, Rush in Rio, and now Snakes and Arrows, and as I mentioned prior give Snakes and Arrows the current #1 ranking!

Next endeavor will be there Clockwork Angels and R40 Live concert Blu-rays. Sure hope they employed the same audio and video production teams...will report back.

what a bummer!

While I try not to be critical having been in the industry and knowing how hard it is to bring a story to the big screen I gotta say... WOW what a horrible film. At what point did the investors and producers decide that it was still OK to move forward making it? Keanu is a cool guy but his less than stellar acting was not helped with this poor script, storyline, and inexperienced cast. Can only imagine how embarrassing the entire film team must have felt witnessing the final product. Yuck!

The CS worldwide updated release (2021)
10 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Saw this last night for the "Cinema Strangiato Director's Cut One Night Only Worldwide Rerelease" and loved it. Not sure how it differs from the 2019 release as I did not see it. Photography was amazing...best I have seen in a concert vid...felt like you were sitting in Neil's kit. Their song selections were epic starting with the latest, "Clockwork Angels", and ending on the earliest "Working Man". Cool how the stage setup shrank as they went back in time. Only downside was the sound mix...I was in a Cinepolis so imagine they have the sound system dialed but the mix seemed to be 2.0 (Left and Right) with way too much forward mid range, drums were almost inaudible on certain songs, no 100 Hz and below bass, and only use of surrounds was crowd enhancements. I assumed there would be a top notch surround mix but def was not the case.

epic show on so many levels!
7 August 2020
Totally enjoyed Down to Earth with Zac Efron. Both him and Darin are sincere in their beliefs, and not afraid to show what most perceive as overly-sensitive or personally vulnerable thoughts and feelings on big picture topics like the environment and humankind as a whole. Sometimes, at least in my own little bubble, it feels like I am the only one occupied with these thoughts. It feels so good to know there are so many others also concerned about our impact on our environment and its inhabitants. Props to Zac and Darin for joining forces and reaching out to so many people through this amazing and very meaningful show. Super stoked on it and really hope it gathers speed and keeps going!

very not good

Got the same feeling when watching Phantom Menace for the first time back in 99', like I was having a bad dream or that I was in a candid camera episode. Wasn't anyone monitoring the making of this $175M film? "Oh boy, ah, Mr. Besson, we are gonna have to pull the plug on this one and save the $$, your reputation, and theaters all over the world from getting torched by irate viewers". ANY other 2017 movie would be a much better use of your viewing time. All the CGI and scantily dressed actresses in the world could not save this one. Sorry Luc, the Fifth Element and The Professional are a few of my favorite flicks, but this one is a steaming hot turd.
