Essential viewing for any self-respecting Twin Peaks fan
20 January 2018
It's impossible to review this collection of clips (I cannot call it a feature movie) without looking back at Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

Although I liked TP:Fire Walk With me, I found it lacking in many departments, especially the pacing in the first "Blue Rose & Dale Copper" - prehistory part. Still, the latter part of the movie, about the last 48 hours of Laura's life remain, a chilling and upsetting depiction of a torchured young life. All of this made it for a very uneven film for me.

The Missing Pieces right this wrong. There are many insightful clips that extend the universe and the meanings behind all things Twin Peaks and even make some things in the third season of the TV series more clear.

So basically, if you've watched TP:FWWM and liked it you NEED to watch this. If you are confused with few bits and pieces from the third season of the TV show - you NEED to see this. If you have not watched Fire Walk With Me or you did not care about it, you can skip this - it will look like a whole bunch of nonsense to you. For me it made perfect sense and I enjoyed revisiting the world of Twin Peaks once more.

Truly interesting
31 October 2017
It is funny that large majority of the reviews here were written after the first episode.

This is a TV show that after the second episode takes so many turns that your head spins. It really has to be binged in order to be fully appreciated. Only after knowing what happened later you can truly understand what happened in the first two episodes and why people behaved like they did.

The ending was shocking to me, I did not see it coming and I wonder what really happened.

For those who say that men were portrayed like the villains - Laura eventually goes on a date with some other guy who seems normal and likable. The supporting cast is definitely not "the stock" kind. Every actor took what was given to him and gave his best.

If this show is really planned for another season I am really looking forward to it.

Oh, the cards, why, why
2 February 2015
I really, really have the issue with the cards/titles at the end of the film. Otherwise masterfully directed, superbly acted movie about life of an outstanding individual was pulled to mud of "political correctness" and given a "higher agenda" that it was all about all homosexuals being persecuted in England in the yesteryears. Until the very ending I enjoyed the movie tremendously.

The fact that Turing has taken his own life could have been communicated in numerous other manners, but using titles was the most half-ass effort every seen in a Oscar-worthy film. Giving it more agenda than it already had really put the stain on the movie.

I DO recommend watching the movie, but I really had the issue how the movie at the and had to prostitute itself the Academy.

Missed opportunity
15 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Compared to other MCU movies this one feels a bit bland and emotionless. While I liked the characters themselves, on their own, their interaction leaves a lot to be desired. Only sometimes it feels that some characters have real chemistry between them and I would say that uneasy romance between Scarlett's and Chris' characters - Black Widow and C'pt America was one of the rare examples of that - which I find surprising considering how the Black Widow was one-dimensional in previous movies. From the emotional stand point Chris Evans did not have much what he could do.

The main emotional stand-off should have been the one between Captain America and The Winter Soldier, but as it turned out eventually, they only exchanged few lines of the dialog and many, many more punches. On the good side of things, the pacing is really good, the action is enjoyable, but still - this feels like and forgettable experience, which is kind of shame considering the talent and the possibilities of the cast.

Potential squandered
7 January 2014
I really wanted to like this film. The trailer looked great and the premise is fantastic. The actors are top-notch (yes, even Keanu, I consider him good actor on occasion). The budget looked rather hefty.

But all that was wasted on single-dimensional characters, predictable scenario, potential that was never fulfilled. The film LOOKS great, I admit it. But the story is not particularly smart nor deep.

And the IMDb says I have to keep writing, so I do. OK, I really liked how the Japanese actors handled English, though I would like to see Japanese version of the film, I am pretty sure it exits. Maybe Japanese language would give it some additional quality. Keanu was good for what was his character - there was simply not enough room for him to develop, nor for any other character.

The biggest fails of this film are definitely the story and the scenario. Acting was OK - given the scenario, cinematography and scenography were pretty good, the FX were good... But the movie simple is not interesting enough.

I would still watch it, but on the cable TV, not in the cinema.

This is really 7/10, but for the lost potential I give it 6/10.

Your person will split...
10 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
As Dae-su's personality splits in two so the film has two distinct parts. First half - mystery and action, second part psychological drama and grand payoff.

Park makes the viewer take far more then 70 steps, leading us to believe this and that, leading us to suppress our doubts and fears and to cheer for Dae-su even after bitter-sweet end. Kiloton of bitter with a pinch of sugar.

I was left wondering - does vengeance have a point? Was it all for vengeance or for shame? Or for guilt? Does vengeance really pays off? Some questions are left unanswered and will for sure trouble me days after I saw this film again.

Highly recommended.
