Tian zhu ding (2013)
Profound and relevant in today's world from Cina to America
Dahai is a hero. In America under Trump I can think of no greater inspiration.
Extremely relevant in today's fascist Trump reality.
Dahai is an inspiration. To mix cultural metaphors... Damn the torpedoes... this iui s the time for action... against Hitler or Trump!
Mignonnes (2020)
The perfect film for any father of a preteen girl.
I just watched it and regret not having my daughter watch it with me. We will watch it together for a family night.
Anyone who finds this film objectionable is the problem that this film is trying to expose. I see why those people are so concerned about it. They should look deep within themselves and confront thier own demons.
This film is exactly what society needs. Wake up to what is happening in our culture. Anyone who is afraid of this film is the person to be afraid of, not this film.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Did GoT just jump the shark?
804 looked to me like GoT jumped the shark. There was not a single moment in 804 that would equate to Fonzi jumping the shark. More like gratuitous dark everything layered over gratuitous violence and massive plot holes. All in a rush to tie up loose ends.
805 has been no better.
Dont get me wrong, I'm eagerly waiting for 806 and have loved the series... I just keep expecting Fonzi to make a cameo.
Breaking & Exiting (2018)
A true sleaper
One of the best movies I have seen in years. I do not run verbose on this. Suffice to say that you should watch it. Milo did an excellent job. I just loved it.
This movie will leave you happy. And I am a man. This is not some ordinary chick flick. It is a movie that will reinforce your love of life.
Black Mirror (2011)
Nothing but a B grade Fan Film
Black Mirror is not what I expected. I had never seen it nor heard of it until April of 2017. Based on the reviews I downloaded the series. Maybe it was all the hype, but I am less than impressed with it. I gave it a chance and watched everything to date and have concluded - someone fell asleep in the middle of a Twilight Zone Marathon while reading William Gibson's Neuromancer and decided to develop a TV series upon awakening. Unfortunately, the person that develops it came away with little more than a "B-grade Fan Film" of the bastardized offspring of those two classics. It will appeal to tween/teen demographics for its willingness to center around technology. Unfortunately, it is nothing but another low production value piece English tripe.
Hell or High Water (2016)
A slice of dystopian America with acting that leaves me forgetting they're actors.
One of the best movies in the last ten years. Chris Pine never impressed me much until this. He and Ben Foster were sublime in their portrayal of the disposable majority in our country. Hell or High Water is a dissertation on the reality of the lie that is called the American dream and how two brothers made it happen despite the 1%ers best efforts to rape us and our "once great" country. This movie finds a moral high ground justifying their tactics against a system of hypocrites and corporate thieves that are the 1% and their enforcers. I can only hope this movie inspires a wave of copy cats, in every detail. Watching this film will embolden every person abused by our country. I look forward to growing old with both of them.
The essence of this movie and the hopelessness 99% of us feel is summed up in the conversation between the two corporate enforcers
Native American pig speaking to the typical WASP pig: A long time ago your ancestors was the Indians until someone came along and killed them. Broke em down made you into one of them. 150 years ago all this was my ancestors land. Everything you could see, everything you saw yesterday. Until the grandparents of these folks took it. Now it's been taken from them. Cept it ain't no army doin' it, it's those sons of bitches right there. points at Texas Midland Bank
A slice of dystopian America that leaves me with hope, with acting that leaves me forgetting they're actors.
La La Land (2016)
I am baffled by this films awards performance
I feel Like John Galt standing alone in a throng of mindless sheep. I watched the entire running. This film is tripe stuffed with regurgitated everything. I get the whole Stage dressing/theater sets = "set atmosphere" thing however, it was so heavy handed that it lost its flavor and appears to be an overused budget tool. After watching it I saw it as a collage of stereotypes from all the old musicals relaying heavily on a film model that was stale and even crusty at points.
That said, I was amazed at Ryan Gosling's piano shots. He was sublime on the keyboard shots and learning to play for this movie. Nothing cheap or cliché about talent. Both he and Emma Stone did a great job of transitioning from their respective scenes into those musical numbers. I found myself amazed that she could be carrying me through a scene just to have her leave me in disbelief that that it was but an intro to a campy song.
This movie is nothing but a "tribute band" to a bye gone era put together today in some kid's dorm room. It is quaintly filled with Drag Queen-esque songs and endless clichés. The actors made this movie happen. They earned their money.
