Grind (2003)
Wacky, zany, pretty funny flick!
I used to skate as a kid and as a teen skater, I had the dream of being surrounded by gorgeous women and touring the country as a pro. I have since grown up, but it still is fun to watch a group of four young guys go against the odds and make that dream come true (even if it was in the script)! Anyway, this is just a fun and funny movie. I happened to be channel surfing and this movie came on HBO, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have ever heard of it. If you happen to be in the Blockbuster or Family Video, give it a try. I would have to say the best quote from this flick is when Matt rips one off and says, "Greetings from the interior!" I just about shot Pepsi out of my nose I was laughing so hard!
Splinter Cell (2002)
A new era in gaming!
Ubi Soft broke all the rules when they unveiled this master piece. The most intense graphics, heart pounding, gripping audio (I suggest playing it with Dolby Digital 5.1 or better), and awesome story line. The level of detail and interaction is astounding. No more can the hero just go around and shoot with reckless abandon. You have to use your head, scope the environment, execute your mission with little or no one knowing you were even there! That is the part of the game that is addicting...it also allows for replayability, something these types of games usually lack, you want to go back and do it better or more stealthy (I have redone the whole game at least 5 times) . If you have never played it, I highly suggest at least renting it with plans to buy...it will engross you and not let go! Enjoy! 9/10
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (2004)
Intense environments and AI...
I will agree that the environments and the AI were incredible and the graphics overall were second to none, but I feel that the single player mode was sacrificed in order to bring the multi-player mode to life. The game was far too short and I didn't feel the profile of Sadono was robust enough. In the original, you actually felt hate and anger towards Nickoladze because of the detail and time spent to develop that character. I am not saying that Pandora Tomorrow was bad, not at all. I am just hoping that they go back to formula with Chaos Theory and develop a new era for gaming, much like was done when Splinter Cell 1 was first released. I gave Pandora a 4 out of 5.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Spiritual
I believe this depiction to be the best ever done. I have been a Christian for a long time and I have read the story of Jesus crucifixion many times, but I have never had to deal with the visual as I did with this film. I wept at the horror of the way my Savior was treated. I also felt much shame because it was my sin that put him on the cross. The whole time Jesus was being beaten, I wanted to stand up in the audience and scream at the top of my lungs, "STOP HITTING HIM!" I realize that Christ had to endure the suffering in order to bridge the void created by sin, cutting man off from God, but it hurt to see the agony Jesus suffered in order to accomplish it. I am still in the wake of this film and it is all I can talk about! The movie itself was a spiritual revival for me, as well as my wife and family. Two thumbs--way, way up to Mel Gibson!
