The Holdovers (2023)
Great movie, with a few issues
The Holdovers is a great movie overall. It is a bit long and low-key - not action packaged at all, which is good, in a way. The cinematography was well done as well as the entire atmosphere for the entire movie. A somewhat grumpy and stern, rule-following professor having to babysit a group of misunderstood and mishandled teenage boys leads to a potentially explosive situation if not handled correctly. In this case, the professor really only has to deal with one teenager, and both handle each other correctly. They both teach each other about themselves, in other words. In the end, great and powerful lessons are learned by all involved.
I would not classify this as a true CHRISTmas movie, although it is set over the CHRISTmas holiday. My biggest issue with the movie was the few comments that mentioned and indicated the professor is an atheist and is project it onto other people. That could have been completely left out as it does not contribute a thing to the movie and actually takes away a good bit of the respect I had for it. Also, the use of foul language was totally unnecessary as well. It also detracts from the movie.
Overall, all of the actresses and actors did a superb job and the movie is a great one to see if you keep the aforementioned issues in mind.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Worst Episode of ANY Star Trek Show EVER!
This has to be the "jump the shark" episode!
Who thought a musical Star Trek would be a good idea? Who approved this garbage? The show was gradually getting better then it took a severe nosedive with this episode. I don't think it will be able to recover! The entire episode made little sense anyway then to set it to music was insult to bad tv shows and bad music altogether.
I can see now why there is an actors' strike. With shows like this, I would not have blamed everyone of the show's actors for walking right off the set in protest. They will all probably look back at their careers at some point in the future and pinpoint this episode as the one that killed their careers!
If you have not watch this episode, save yourself the time and trouble. Go watch almost anything else. Doing so would not be any worse!
The Simpsons: Fan-ily Feud (2023)
The ABSOLUTE WORST of The Simpsons!!!
This episode is basically a Pontiac or Oldsmobile car. It should have gone straight from production to the junkyard and spared the rest of humanity the agony and complete waste of time we spent watching it. This episode is a perfect example of what a complete waste of all resources looks like. Who wrote this travesty? Who approved this train wreck of an episode? The only thing worse would be watching the president's state of the union speech! No, I take that back - watching the president does contain some humorous moments that indicate the end of humanity is near. This episode of The Simpsons indicates humanity is now a complete loss.
Why did I watch it, you might ask? It was just so I could say I have seen every one of The Simpsons episodes. If this is the kind of garbage the rest of The Simpsons will be like, they might as well close up shop now and end the entire show. Like I said earlier, this is the absolute worst episode ever of The Simpsons! It is a complete waste of ALL resources!
I Am DB Cooper (2022)
TOTALLY Mindless Drivel!
I realize this is a mockumentary, but it was not entertaining at all. I was expecting it to be a little outlandish, maybe a parody or spoof of all the DB Cooper videos out there, but this was a complete waste of all resources.
I would go so far as to saying this is false advertising. I can't believe they were expecting people to pay to watch this fiasco. Instead, they should be paying people to watch it!
This so-called movie will surely go down in history as one of the lowest points in not only video history, but also in human history. Years from now, in movie-making classes at universities everywhere, students should be required to watch this mindless drivel in order to learn what not to do - and avoid extremely true reviews like the one you are reading now!
A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Wow! What a great movie! It should get a major award!
And I mean it! A Christmas Story Christmas is a really great movie! It does have a few dull spots and a few cheesy moments, but it is a great sequel to "A Christmas Story". It manages to recapture some of the warmth of the original movie which was set in the 1930s/40s and present it in a 1970s manner.
All of the actors and actresses did a great job as well. The kids were wonderful. Peter Billingsley presented Ralphie as a grown up yet still holding on to young Ralphie in every way. Julie Hagerty was especially sweet as Mom/Grandma. Erinn Hayes portrayed the perfect, supportive wife for Ralphie. Scut, Flick, Schwartz and others were also portrayed very well. Jean Shepherd would definitely give his stamp of approval!
One thing about the movie is that although some of the earlier events were imitated, they were not recreated so as to be a rip off. Memories were relived when and where necessary and provided a great amount of nostalgia. Therefore, if you have not watched the original "A Christmas Story", it is almost necessary to do so to understand some of the events of this movie.
Also, pay attention to some of the background sight gags. Some are laugh-out-loud worthy.
To all those involved in making this movie, I say great job! You really made this movie a definite "must watch"! Everyone should add it to their Christmas movie collection! No one will be disappointed!
D.B. Cooper: Where Are You?! (2022)
Waste of Resources - Mindless Drivel
I was looking forward to this series in hopes that it would present additional, unseen evidence or even ideas, but I was tremendously disappointed. They should have named it something like the "Bob Rackshaw Show" since that's all they focused on. There was absolutely no new evidence or anything of any kind.
This entire series and entire "investigation" was complete and total waste of all resources. I wish I had those couple hours back so I could have done something else with my time instead of wasting it watching this mindless drivel!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Wow! This movie is superb!
This is one of the best movies I have seen in quite a while. The storyline was very good, the acting from everyone was great, and the special effects were superb! I would go so far as to say this is one of the best movies of all time, with one exception. If they had only left out the obvious advertising for malwart, the movie would have been almost perfect. They should have just used a generic grocery store for the marshmallow scene.
So, this movie is a perfect Ghostbusters "3". Whatever that was in 2016, just disregard it altogether. Watch "Afterlife" and be prepared to be entertained on many levels!
Kringle Time (2021)
Candidate for worst movie ever!
What was I thinking by watching this movie? It started out dull and vulgar and only got worse. I thought it might get a little better, but it didn't. I still don't see why they wasted the resources necessary in making this movie. It was completely pointless. Also, what is it with all the foul language? It ruins every movie made in the past few years. I agree that a well placed expletive used sparingly can be monumental in certain situations, but what is the purpose of all the vulgar language in this and other movies? It simply ruins them. Of course, Kringle Time was the source of its own ruination. It is simply a pointless movie - a complete waste of all resources. I wish I had that hour and half back! Watching grass grow would have been a more constructive use of that time, not to mention far more entertaining.
State and Main (2000)
Good movie, except for...
Overall, this is a good movie. It is just a quirky, entertaining movie. I would have given it 9.5 stars if it did not have Alec Baldwin fouling it up. Without the cursing, I would have given it 10 stars.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Inner Light (1992)
The best episode of all of Star Trek
The Inner Light is the best episode of all Star Trek shows, not just TNG. Why? It does not involve any battles and has a very low level of technology involved. It is simply a simple story. Sometimes simple is the best way to go. It is one of those types of shows that makes you think. Is something real or is it a dream? Which is really real? I think everyone has had a dream that seemed to be very real. Everybody can relate to this episode in some way. In the end, it had a happy ending.
My suggestion is to simply watch it and find out for yourself. You might agree with me that this is the best episode of all of the versions of Star Trek.
The Brittas Empire (1991)
One of the best Brit-coms of all time!
I recently started watching this series and have come to realize it was one of the best Brit-coms of all time. It has a certain warmth to it with the right combination of actors and actresses. I can relate to the idiocy of the know-it-all boss as I have encountered several such bosses over the years, along with the employees who are doing the best job they can in spite of it all. To be a British creation, there is miraculously little foul language. There is even a bit of CHRISTianity to it in a few shows. This is one of those few gems that could have continued for several decades, yet they ended it far too soon. Still, it does have a proper ending that you must see. I am not going to spoil it for you. Watch it all, and enjoy!
The History of Time Travel (2014)
Complete Rubbish!
This "movie" is a complete waste of all resources. It is not captivating in any way, even for science fiction. The "acting" is extremely amateurish at best. It is a complete waste of time. Don't bother watching it!
The Need to Grow (2019)
Just more liberal propaganda!
There is no proof to global warming, negative climate change, etc. The Earth is going through its normal "mood swings" as it has done for eons. There is no way humans can affect the Earth in any way. Nature, aka God, has a way of taking care of things and keeping it all in balance. This propaganda film is yet another form of "the sky is falling" mentality of the liberals. They have been doing this for many years with the sole purpose of scaring people. Do not waste your time watching this misinformation! There are more productive things you can do with your time than believe this mindless drivel!
Matinee (1993)
A true hidden gem of a movie!
I stumbled upon this movie by accident, and with a couple hours of nothing else to do, I decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! This is really a great movie with a great storyline. All the actors did a great job as well. In particular, John Goodman's confidence really shines in this one, and it is exactly what was called for in the movie. There needs to be more movies like this that have no hidden political agenda. Just simple, humorous, and interesting movies are what is needed, and with no chance to make a sequel. This is a one and done movie that is simply done right! Watch it!
Hocus Pocus (1993)
Good movie but....
Overall Hocus Pocus is a good "fantasy" movie with a decent story line. But I give it one star based on Bette Midler alone. The original choice, Glenn Close, would have been a far better choice!
On Golden Pond (1981)
Very good movie, but...
Overall, On Golden Pond is one of the best movies ever. It is a bit low key/low tech, but it has a certain warmth to it that is timeless. Most people can relate to the personal issues going on in the movie - either they have experienced it or know somebody who has. My one gripe is that Jane Fonda was a very poor choice She is not a very good actress at all. I would go so far as to say that if the rest of the actors, all of 'em, had not delivered such strong, solid performances, she would have ruined the entire movie. Ann Margret would have been the perfect choice. If you can simply ignore Jane Fonda, then your viewing pleasure will be infinitely better.
Jaws 3-D (1983)
Not THE Worst Movie...
Jaws 3-D is not the worst movie I have seen, but it is not far from it. It is the second worst of the Jaws family, though. The storyline is actually ok-ish, but the low-quality acting is what really makes it a dud. The horribly fake SOUTHern accents are, well, horrible. They could have at least drafted a few true SOUTHerners with real SOUTHern accents for those tiny parts. In addition, Louis Gossett Jr. was not a good choice for this movie. I have never seen him in anything where he was a good choice due to his horrible acting skills.
I would also have preferred to leave the 3-D gimmick out of the movie since it only adds to the already low-quality cinematography. It definitely does not add anything worthwhile to the movie and is very cheesy at best.
All in all, I would recommend watching this movie if you liked Jaws and Jaws 2, to keep up with the Jaws family. But if you don't like horrible acting that ruins a good movie, watch something else.
Space Force (2020)
Horrible Language
Yet another show/movie that would have been good but the language ruins it. It is definitely not for young children who could have been influenced in a positive way. I do not recommend watching this show based on the language. Why can't we have a show similar to this that promotes the Space Force, Air Force, and other branches of the military, presented in a humorous, entertaining, and positive manner, yet lacks the sewer-mouthed language that is so prevalent in entertainment today? It does not paint a positive picture of the entertainment industry, or humanity in general.
The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch (2020)
Very entertaining and intriguing!!!
I hope this show hangs around for many seasons to come. I really like it even though it does have some corny and dull moments. On the other hand, it makes you wonder what is going on there, as well as in many other areas. Something is definitely happening and I hope they find some very shocking results. Can't wait to see more!!!
Amazing Stories: Dynoman and the Volt!! (2020)
Best episode of season 1
This episode is the best one of season 1. It has an "old" feel to it without an outlandish story line that goes nowhere, like a couple of the other episodes. This episode actually has a good story line and a good message. It is not perfect by any means, but of the 5 episodes, this is the best one.
Amazing Stories: Signs of Life (2020)
Just plain bad
Why did I keep watching and wasting my time? I guess I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did. This episode made no sense at all. I would recommend skipping it and not wasting your time on it.
Las chicas del cable (2017)
Good show, but music ruins it
I really like the "old" atmosphere of the show and all, but the music completely ruins it. It should have music that is pertinent to the time period, or at the very least, timeless music. Instead it uses the senseless "hip hop" music of today, and that totally ruins the entire atmosphere of the show.
The Tree of Life (2011)
Boring and Depressing
This movie is boring and depressing. I stopped watching after less than 30 minutes. I am glad I didn't pay to go see this movie. A movie should be something that is captivating, indulging, and to say the least, interesting. This movie is none of those. I gave it an honest shot thinking it was just building up to something as a lot of movies do. This starts out slow and dull, but only gets worse. Regardless of the big names in this movie, it is still boring and depressing. I would suggest watching something else. The reviews appeared to be good, but I suspect they were as such mainly to try pay for those big names. I am only telling the truth as I see it. I am not trying to bash the movie or the actors.
