The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Again and again and again...a masterpiece.
I really think that everyone who gave this movie anything under a 10 should go back and watch it again. I keep going back and back and watching this over and over and again.
It's such a beautiful movie. If you stop focusing on wanting to see more violence and cherish the richness of these characters and what is to become of them all in the near future.....it's tragically Beautiful. So tragically beautiful.
Dickie is a tragedy in the making, lost from a young child, watching his father beat on is mother......perhaps he needed the prescriptions drugs as much as Livia, but his life led him to where he was, just like Tony.
Like the Sopranos, you see two star crossed lovers....looking for that support....looking for someone to love them completely.
So many people missed the full point of this masterpiece.
One false turn....just one false turn in the turbulence of this era and tony's fate is set.
Dickie to Tony: "I know you want this civilian life...."
Almost there....almost.
I know it's a beautiful movie because everyone missed the same formula and how the truth of who killed Tony and WHY is right here, and it also explains what happened after Tony's death at Holstens.
Same pattern....same cycle....missed again and again.
Well done, Chase and Konner....well done.
Linoleum (2022)
Donnie Darko 2.0??????
I mean I was so stuck in the middle with a rating. I'm writing this at 1:22:00 into the movie. There is an old lady in this movie that's definitely a representation of Roberta Sparrow from Donnie Darko. A rocket ship (or plane engine) crashes I. The front yard. Is Jim suppose to be a paradox of Donnie Darko fro another reality....cmon.... Halloween and everything.
Can we get a little more original? Still, I liked it and wondered if Richard Kelly had this...would DD had done better? Definitely one to own in the cult classic category and I will purchase this movie to watch again and again, just because the creator took something and reproduced it to a new vision.
I could be wrong and just stuck on Donnie, but with that being said, this has a good effect and tis a good movie. Rockets, time machine in the mind.... Magic and science. Gave it a 5, but my heart says 9 stars.
Captive State (2019)
I gave it an 8 for creative force.
I could not help but admire this dark film and feel...it was a prequel to 10 Cloverfield Lane. Remember that movie, where John Goodman is locked in an underground facility and takes a girl hostage. If you have not seen it, you should. Though different creative forces behind the two movies, for me, it fit perfectly with my imagination. I watched this on Showtime and really enjoyed it.
Trapper Jake (2013)
The way it was
Great documentary on the life of a man who provided for his family and way of life. Even today, many people still provide for their family in the western United States, by trapping. We hear much history of the past, how children were affected with diseases and family coped with these degrees of hardship, still surviving on like the never ending wind.
This is a fascinating account of how things were done so long ago, not many take the time to trap this way anymore. I remember finding a dead coyote on the in laws property, jaw gone for a measly fee (UTah) but there lay, a beautiful coat, wasted in the fields because someone lacked the skill to do the animal justice by using all the spoils. Watching Jake do his workmanship, I am automatically drawn to the picture I took of the wasteful coyote, I buried that day...if only the kids knew what he knew. This film will go down in history as a fact filled lesson into how it was done and I believe many in the future will praise the directors for taking the time to record this magnificent man who shared his days with us all.
RIP Jake.
Birth of the Dragon (2016)
What's hidden within?
I saw the preview and I saw many qualities of what Bruce Lee enforced. His character, he drive...I read some of the reviews above and I can understand how some would be offended as this is the way of Directors, putting someone else before the Legend, but I don't think this is what the movie is about.
REMEMBER: Dragon, lied. That movie stated Bruce Lee published Tao of Jeet Kune Do, this was false. The book was Compiled AFTER Lee's death, by His wife and and others, who went through notes and such, stuffed in drawers, books...enough for seven volumes of wisdom. SO.....why would they make it look as if his fortune was more in Dragon when it was not?
There is so much to learn, how cares that his guy in the movie is possible depicting some trash who had no life, look at what Lee said to him (even if it's fictitious) when he was in front of the door. That is GRAND BRUCE LEE.
True fans will absorb the wisdom and not the acrobatics that come with each movie put out.
Remember, Lee said,
"Worse still, super mental power and spiritual this and spiritual that are desperately incorporated until these practitioners drift further and further into mystery and abstraction. All such things are futile attempts to arrest and fix the ever-changing movements in combat and to dissect and analyze them like a corpse."
AND
"The art of Jeet Kune Do is simply to simplify."
AND, most importantly,
"If people say Jeet Kune Do is different from "this" or from "that," then let the name of Jeet Kune Do be wiped out, for that is what it is, just a name. Please don't fuss over it."
Lee, Bruce (1975-10-01). Tao of Jeet Kune Do (Kindle Locations 4302-4303). Ohara Publications, Inc.. Kindle Edition.
SO don't fuss over some white guy playing a "lead" part, See the simplicity in what Bruce was about.
S. Darko (2009)
THEY ruined it.....
I feel so sorry for the director and the fact that it was filmed in beautiful Utah, but he had not the sense to film in in a better place than the crappy Salt palace region. what is up!!!? you could have put them up in the Avenues..plenty of trees..plenty of DD atmosphere...darkness and such. instead it was filmed in the vicinity of the Great Salt Lake, which is a beautiful place, but its just not right for the DD sequel.
This film lacked money, this is so obvious, either that or someone blew it on the wrong things. IT will NEVER EVER come out of the depths like DD did, once again directors are making movies that steer toward those with no attention span, pulling together anything to make a buck.
the movie explained nothing in conjunction with Sparrow...how did her grandson end up in Utah? Just holes holes holes...I can't believe anyone let this get made...does the director reside in Utah? Shame on you for making such a crappy Sequel.
I hope someone redeems DD with a better third movie day...these things have happened.
Just horrible, horrible, horrible!
