Ludicrously funny
18 April 2014
People take horror too seriously. This movie is just flat out fun. Wish more folks would make movies like this. Not every flick has to be Gone With the Wind! From Pervo and his twisted stage show to Sky Brannigan, the bizzaro characters have something a lot of major studio releases don't have - chemistry! Tons of truckstop bathroom stall humor, body count, and blood galore. The nutty doctor in the basement lab and his off-center family running the operation are pure gravy. Then there are tons of topless zombie chicks running around in a frenzy. Oh, and a foul-mouthed midget with bathroom issues. What else would you want in a micro-budget horror flick?

Not "Rec"
13 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The worst thing on earth is when a film series I love goes south. "Rec 3" isn't a horrible film. In fact, if you like over the top blood and gore zombie flicks that you've seen 1,000 times, then I recommend it. However, if you are expecting the creepy, suspenseful, brilliant editing, originality and creativity of the first two "Rec" films, you will be as severely disappointed and "WTF?" as I am right now. No clue why Paco Plaza did this to such a brilliant franchise, but...the second that the first person perspective switched off and it became a movie, I said, "uh oh."

The links into the other films were like a close up of a can of sponsor's beer over and over again. Yup, got it the first non-subtle time you had the uncle explain that he was bitten at the vets by what he thought was a dead dog. No need to show me his hand a half dozen times. Also, what was the purpose of the glide cam wedding videographer if we aren't to see any of his footage? In the first two, the multiple camera owners footage were cut together like a great music composition, here...nothing except victims.

Maybe Mr. Plaza's plan all along with revenue from the first films was to make enough money to do his dream project. Name it something else then. I agree with another reviewer, shouldn't have folded it into the franchise and just called it, "Til Death Do Us Part."

I actually really liked it!

The film had a very indy, unpolished look. From a cinematography standpoint, the film could have used a better audio mixer or even balanced it. With about another week in the editing room, those things could have been smoothed out.

On the plus side, there were terrific costumes, the camera boxing by the DP was fantastic and the acting was good overall, but Bill Oberst Jr. was ABSOLUTELY excellent. Loved the story and the way the writers worked in historical lines in the name of butt whoopin, "emancipate this!" They had fun creating it and it showed.

I think The Asylum films bring a MUCH needed levity to an industry that takes itself WAY too seriously. Every release from the big studios are on such a grand scale that the trailers themselves look like they cost a $million plus. The blockbusters are so reliant on "wow" cgi, that character development/creativity and story lines are somewhere in the trunk under the spare tire and jack!

This isn't a masterpiece, but it is fun and I laughed a lot. Well done!
