Tracks (2005)
Pretty awful movie...
A low-budget movie, and it shows... some pretty bad acting; though Ice T was very good. The movie was slow-moving for the most part, had poor audio and equally poor visuals: dark and grainy; the casting was pretty bad, and thus, the story -which is purported to be 'true'- seems unbelievable. As stated before, the casting of the particular actors and actresses in TRACKS to play 14-16 year olds makes no sense, and even worse, detracts from the film; they're just way too old to play the parts called for. But even if that's a forgivable faux pas, the truth is, at times, this film was just so plain boring that I considered not bothering to see it through to the finish... There's really not much good to say about TRACKS-- But I only paid $1.07 with NJ sales tax to rent it at Red Box, so for a buck/seven, I give it a 4.
The Deep End (2001)
Surprisingly GOOD Film!
Surprisingly GOOD Film! I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. All around, an entertaining movie. Better Than Good: Acting, Directing, Music, Camera-Work, Editing, Script, and Length. It's just long enough at 1:37, but not tedious in the wrapping-up. If you're looking for a very entertaining movie, rent/buy this sleeper. It surely is not a waste-of-time! I couldn't find a thing that was disappointing. Rather, it's more like a diamond in the ruff. The camera-work was especially skillful! A character-study, and a mood-piece, for sure, but an excellent one at that. The subtle yet superb blending of the 'dark sides' and 'the light' deserves quiet accolades.
The Interview (1998)
Fleming: Unfortunate Innocent or Serial Killer? or...?
***SPOILER WARNING*** Fleming: Unfortunate Innocent or Serial Killer? or...? ...in collusion with Internal Affairs...? This is a FABULOUS movie!!; so much so, that even at the end, the possibilities are left so wide open that there was no longer even an "Either/Or" for me but a third possibility struck like lightning: when Fleming (Hugo Weaving) puts on that jacket and tie and struts into freedom with that Beaming-Wide-Open-Smile on his face, maybe... (hmmm... just maybe...) And the IA Constable threw off all suggestions that would have 'saved' Steele and equally, dismissed any real distress that a "serial killer' would be walking free... hmmm... This truly is a FABULOUS film in all aspects; acting (Hugo Weaving is SUPERB and that is understating his performance), directing, producing, editing, screenplay... ah, just take note of all of the varied camera angles employed inside the 'Interview Room' (read: Cell)... and don't miss the utterly masterful use of the "food": that dank, oppressive 'Room' is transformed just by the colors suddenly added to the 'greyness', not to mention the quantity and variety...
and Weaving (Fleming)? Wow! Wow!... stunning! The camera just loves him here!: HIS transformation this time via the 'food'... Do not miss this film if you have the opportunity to see it! Disconcerting! With all excellence, right through the end.
