Black Mirror isn't just about technology
25 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I see a lot of reviews saying that Black Mirror is based on technology and blasé blah when really it isn't. It's been a huge part of it, yes, but they really focus on the moral aspects, integrity, and inner workings of the characters that they create. When the heavy focus of the technological side was removed for this season, we are plunged into the depths of the characters themselves. The ending for Loch Henry where the main character is left alone with his tears and his trophy makes you wonder if it was all even worth it for him. The end of this episode where Bo raises her camera to take a picture of Mazey shooting herself instead of setting it aside out of respect for what she has to do, makes you wonder why her priorities are to the job instead of compassion for a fellow human being. She could still get the story out without that particular shot. Black Mirror targets us in these scenarios just as they have been doing! I love this new season and how much darker it is, and I still appreciate how it makes you dwell on the endings.

Terrible adaptation
6 June 2023
Although I liked some of the Vegas changes, I hated the rushed and forced chemistry between Abby and Travis. Travis never called her "Abby" like he did throughout this movie. He called her "Pidge" or "Pigeon". Abby seemed to be openly obsessed with Travis when their resistance is supposed to be what helped the build up. They fumbled the dynamic of America and Shepley, especially between the two couples. Even if I hadn't read the book, this movie felt rushed and the acting was sub par. Huge letdown of this beast of a story. Even Parker was not a believable distraction/love interest. The fight scenes were okay. Sprouse seemed to be monotone throughout and had the range of a potato. I expected more from him! I hope they don't run the spin offs with the same cast or director.

Musical boyfriends and stereotypes
16 April 2021
I went back and watched all seasons since I didn't finish them when I was younger. I still felt some type of way when Brenda left and felt like the show took a huge loss when Doherty was gone. Tiffany Thiesson was a nice addition and kept the show alive with her drama. I felt like having her take everybody's leftovers was just lazy writing, as well as the whole crew playing musical boyfriends. In real life, girls don't remain friends when our friends date our exes. It would have been nice to see women of color play a main lead or long term date one of the main guys, but of course it seems that every time a black character was introduced, it was in some type of agonizing stereotypical sense. Wrong side of town, dangerous, angry; then there's the one where the single mother leaves her kids home alone to go to work and the white people are there to judge and play savior. It is what it was for those days and for the times that it was for television. Most plots were written well and the actors did a great job in their roles.

Great writing, exceptional directing.

Powerful performances from the actors, great editing, wonderful cinematography. Racism and the supernatural are the antagonistic forces. Brings about a kind of awareness for how black people were treated so it's understandable why some don't want to finish it or give a decent rating. The backstory is scary as hell! True fan of horror and this was a good fix for me.
