The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
Expected way more
I need to say, I am a big fan of the Cloverfield series, and I was really looking forward to this one. But unlike the previous two movies, this one fails to deliver.
I did find it interesting how they brought the God Particle story to the Cloverfield universe, but that is it. There is no in depth story and character development, and the only anticipation building to the story is the one of a very predictable "villain" twist, if we can even call it like that.
Every part of it feels rushed and just thrown into context, and the movie feels like just a side-story to something much cooler happening that we do not get to see.
In a way, this is the problem with Hollywood nowadays. The story is just too shallow, the characters are poorly developed and there is not much guessing to where the story going. Also, the small details: A German character named Schmidt ... ok, just very cliche. And Brazil is somewhat of a popular place, so it is not too hard to do a short and quick research to learn that "Acosta" is not a Brazilian Portuguese name, but rather Spanish, and not even that popular. But anyway, just a small example of how Hollywood movie stories are just poor and lazy (sans a few great film makers).
Not to say everything is bad in this movie, it is still a Cloverfield story and the acting is quite good most of the time. Daniel Brühl and Chris O'Dowd are well known and really good actors, and of course they deliver in this one.
So, to sum up: If you really really need to get more on the Cloverfield story, it is an ok movie at best, but nothing that you wouldn't get from spending 2 minutes reading a plot summary, instead of the 102 of the whole movie.
4/10
Bron/Broen (2011)
One of the best TV shows ever.
As the forth and final season is coming close to an end, I am already missing this show.
Absolutely brilliant acting, script, main and side stories. Wow. I lived in Malmö for a few years and the way they use the atmosphere of the city and its neighbor Copenhagen to set the tone for the stories is just amazing.
Although there are several crime/police shows out there, this one stands out. From the main concept of the first season, to how the other stories unfold is a work of genius. No wonder there are (so far) three foreign remakes of the show done. None stand even close to the quality of this one, thou.
Very few times I've seen such a great cast together in such an involving and brilliant story.
Ófærð (2015)
Great story, amazing acting.
Nordic TV crime shows are quite superb nowadays, and this is no different.
This is set in Iceland, so the beautiful cold scenery sets the atmosphere for the story to unfold.
From the convincing motives, camera angles, and acting, to the way the directors let the background story to the characters go bit by bit, everything in this show is very impressive and they make you keep the curiosity and interest for the next episodes as the main plot is being laid down.
Again, the acting is very very good and the smart and real dialogues only add do the depth every actress and actor bring to the story.
I am a big fan of Nordic shows, and this one is certainly on my Top 5. I can't wait for the second season.
Escape Plan (2013)
Great movie.
Excellent cast, scrip and acting (yes, acting). You can't expect Sly and Arnie to play Shakespeare, and they won't. They are meant to kick ass and that's what they do.
The story goes by smoothly and fast. Dialogues and sequence are really well written. Main characters bring you in the movie and Jim Caviezel is great as the villain. So is Vince Jones and the rest of the characters.
This isn't for everyone but I can't believe this movie is flying so under the radar. What a shame. This is old school, action packed thriller.
Good Deeds (2012)
Nothing new
I must I did enjoy the first 30 min of this movie. Good acting and the story even thou it didn't seem like nothing new, it had potential but that fell short after they didn't do much to develop the story on most of the characters. I did think Tyler Perry did a good job in this one, but towards the end, no actor could save the predictable and embarrassing morale of this story.
If you're home in the afternoon, had your wisdom teeth taken off and there's NOTHING else going on on TV, you'll probably enjoy a scene or two in this movie, but there's nothing new/special or surprising in it.
Thanks for reading.
Retreat (2011)
Great acting and solid script
The story is quite simple and the storyline given on this website sums it up well. Anything else I write about it can give away important pieces of the story, so I will stay away from that.
What I can say is that even thou it has a short cast, and it's not a very long movie, the script is pretty solid and the acting is really really good. The scenery is also great, the dialogues aren't over done and the pace in which the events happen, keep you wondering the whole movie.
Other than 1 or 2 dragging moments, this movie kept my attention the whole time and I think most people, fans of the genre or not, will also be satisfied.
This movie was really entertaining and I recommend it 100%, especially if you're looking for some sort of "end of the world/psychological thriller" movie to watch.
Silent House (2011)
Waste of time.
This is a waste of time. Very annoying sound throughout the whole movie and the acting isn't good at all. Maybe you won't agree but I find it really annoying that all the main character can do is cry the whole movie. Really awful excuse for a terrible script and lack of dialogue.
---- spoiler ----
This might be posed as a horror thriller but there is nothing supernatural or horror per say in this movie. Just another silly "I was traumatized for something that happened on my childhood" story with no depth at all and you'll understand the plot after the first dialogue (poorly written one). Again, it's just a waste of time and the ending is even more disappointing than the rest of it.
Good: Almost nothing. Some interesting scenario and camera work but that's all.
Bad: Everything? Bad acting, very annoying sound (really really annoying and no explanation at all to it other than make you mad), weak story and development. I don't feel like watching anything else from the people involved in this movie.
