Vikingdom (2013)

Would have probably become 80' blockbuster, if it is released at that time
16 October 2013
First of all, i would like to congratulate the effort given by the KRU production. It is not an easy task to come up with a large scale movie set especially when you trying to make a viking movie on malaysian geographical landscape. I couldn't have imagined the hardship and difficulties they have to overcome to create a similar background and weather condition that is to the Nordics. But as usual the storyline is awful. And what with the zombies and the hound of hell? The creature is the worst i have seen in all 'B' grade monster movie. The person who made that creature sure rips you off your money. It is like a monster from a five year old dream. Or it could have been inspired by a project made by a five year old. The action is okay, nothing unusual or captivating. You can actually guess what parts will be freeze or slow mo during the fighting sequence. Shame because there is a lot of potential actors here. Another thing to ridicule about this movie is the hairpiece the vikings are using. It looks so fake a child could point it out. Nevertheless, i enjoyed watching it and making fun of it just like when i watch piranaconda or sharknado. It could have become a great movie if it is released way back in the 80 s and it is black and white. That way it is flawless. But producing this kind of movie in 2013, is sure not making any Malaysian proud. Maybe some are but definitely not me.

The Jungle (2013)

Dark side of the jungle
9 August 2013
If you experience dizziness or nausea seeing videos shot by shaky hand held cameras, this is not a movie for you. Most people think that this idea of a movie is outdated and had been used in numerous films throughout the decades, directors and writers still found it amusing to use this method to break their storyline. For me, it was fine. So what if it got shaky camera all over it, this jungle still worth my time watching it. It's a similar genre to movies such as cannibal holocaust, the blair witch project, VHS and mostly most of movies nowadays produced by Hollywood but with less gore and some interesting scare factor in it. The expedition in this movie kinda give you the 'destination truth' feeling and I personally love the background that depicts indonesian villages and thick green khatulistiwa jungle much suited its title. I can't say it is great movie but it will do to pass your evening. The acting is OK and the effects is so so. I give it an eight out ten just to boost its rating.

R.I.P.D. (2013)

Heck it is men that doesn't wear black
9 August 2013
I really like Ryan Reynolds in most movies and even cameos in movies he is in but the movie RIPD holds suspiciously similar storyline to men in black has set aside my expectation for the bad. Two cops fighting for crimes done by the undead sounds pretty much like two agents fighting for aliens. Some villains even look as if it came from the movie MIB. The office and the toilet flush. Common.

There are some funny moments in it, few actions here and there nothing you haven't seen before and a resolution. Then that's it. Watch this movie twice and you will be multitasking or talking to a friend. There is no scene or phrases you ll be reminiscing about.

Some movies are treasures worth seeing and adored till the end of time. RIPD serve its purpose once and Rest In Peace till the end of time.

Time to watch history channel again
22 March 2012
I tried to watch this movie to see if it is worth the positive coverage that the Malaysian media have given during its preview. But to my disappointment I left the cinema in the middle of the showing. The acting, the props, the CGI was not to the standard where we can say that it is an epic story. At the beginning of the story, I was so annoyed at the narration. The narrator tried so hard trying not to choke on his on voice to make that 'old man' sound. And eventually the storyline become dull and tasteless. At one scene during the battle, there was a fierce storm and the fight scene was intense, but I was surprised to see that the coconut trees at the background were not even moving. If the Malay warriors were still alive they will certainly not approve the efforts the film makers trying to portray about their lives. But again, what can I expect from the KRU productions.
