Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (2020)
Fascinating Tale Told Badly.
As a non-American I did know a little about this case but not too much and not with too much knowledge of American Football itself. I did learn a lot during the three hours but in a slightly incoherent way considering my lack of base knowledge.
Unfortunately, the documentary was all over the shop, with some of the talking heads leaving me scratching my head as to why they were even there. I'd like to have seen a more of the head trauma angle and less of the supposed homosexual angle - which didn't seem to go anywhere at all - and fewer people seemingly making assumptions on Hernandez's behalf.
Overall an incredibly interesting story but could have been told much clearer for people like me.
6 Underground (2019)
Bay makes another unwatchable mess (I had to watch this over four sittings)
I could have liked this film but for it being edited by an eight year old with ADHD. I swear if you blinked twice in a row you'd miss twenty seven scenes.
I didn't realise this was directed by Michael Bay until I started watching it, then I knew within a few minutes. An absolute mess, which is a shame because there's some good stuff in there, it's just hidden amongst two hours of unwatchable motion sickness.
If somebody could remove Bay from the filmmaking process once his directing duties are fulfilled, he could possibly make a decent film or two.
I do wonder if anybody's brain operates at a speed capable of processing an action scene in a Michael Bay film in real time? It seems unlikely.
I will say, I gave it four stars because some of the jokes hit home and I really did like the ship/magnet scenes, very cool idea and almost executed well. Almost.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Terrible
Incoherent and practically unwatchable. The story deserves better than this.
Trial of Midnight Rider: Railroaded in the Deep South (2018)
Unwatchable.
Ordinarily I don't like to rate films I haven't seen all the way through as it's not fair to the director/producers or whoever, but this was just unwatchable. Between the fast cuts and too much going on on screen it's almost impossible to take in what is being said, even with the subtitles activated, but throw in the dreadfully horrible sound effects and 'dramatic music' and you find yourself hating every second of what you're watching but missing - all nineteen minutes that we managed.
I've sat through some terrible films and documentaries over the years and I always try to be fair, so for me to give up so early in what looked to be a very interesting story, is unusual. For me to feel compelled to rate it without seeing it through, I'm sure, is a first. That's how awful the first twenty minutes of this film were.
Perhaps if we could get a version without all the background noise it might be worth another shot, but as it is, it's not for me.
Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura (2009)
Complete and utter dross.
They may have a few points in there but it's packaged inside hours of dross, with absolutely no common sense applied in any of the episodes I've watched so far.
His 'investigator' June is a well known TV host from England with, I suspect, no actual knowledge or experience in the field of investigation. Ventura himself just seems like a knuckle head who'll believe anything told to him so long as it's by some 'informer/insider' with zero credibility.
The whole show is melodramatic, over the top rubbish that'll feed the already fruit loop conspiracy theorists out there while leaving the more sane ones among us scratching our heads as to how this lasted for three series.
