Super Size Me (2004)
disgusting... but accurate
Although I thought that this movie was absolutely disgusting, it was an accurate and powerful portrayal of what is happening as a result of people's obsessions and the fast food industry. For some reason, (although I cannot understand it), people enjoy greasy simulated meat and fake potatoes that are not suitable to be consumed by dogs, let alone humans. It was a bit, rather, very drastic to eat NOTHING but McDonald's for a month, but this experiment showed what people are doing to themselves by eating fast food more often than what is considered safe by REAL nutrition experts. This movie was far from the greatest movie I have ever seen, but it is definitely one of the most powerful movies of those from recent years.
Family Matters (1989)
Arrest the nerd.
Steve Urkel should have been arrested the day he was of an age where he SHOULD have known that his harassing the Winslow's was wrong. In each episode, he would barge into the house, without ringing the doorbell. Next, he would break something that belonged to the Winslows, or "accidentally" blow up the Winslows themselves. Somewhere, there would have been charges that would have stuck, and kept Steve in jail for at least a few months, or, with Steve being a repeat offender, for the rest of his life. Trespassing, vandalism, attempted murder... I just don't see why the most harsh punishment Urkel ever received was a command to "Go Home!" In conclusion, avoid this show, unless you like to watch lawbreakers get away with crimes that often come very close to murder.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (1999)
AWFUL
For many reasons, this is one of the worst game shows of all time. First of all, Regis Philbin is incredibly annoying. Secondly, the whole idea of this show is stupid. The contestants can take ALL DAY to answer ONE QUESTION. Game shows should set some type of time limit for responding. Next, there is the most stupid question that I have ever heard on a game show: "Is that your final answer?" I say that if it was not the contestant's final answer, he or she should not have said it in the first place. A quiz show also should not be multiple choice. These types of shows are supposed to demonstrate how intelligent the contestants are. If there is an automatic 25% chance that the contestant will answer correctly, ANY IDIOT could win at least a few hundred dollars. Considering all of this, I really hope that this show is canceled VERY SOON.
American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Absolutely PATHETIC
I do not understand how people can watch this. American Idol is all about people with no talent whatsoever trying to get noticed for trying out for a popular show like American Idol. This is illustrated by the fact that each year, there have been enough bad performances for a whole hour of "The Best of the Worst" of American Idol, and this does not even include the talentless people who make it past the tryouts. The only reason to watch this show is to see people make themselves look foolish on national television.
The lack of talent, however, is just one of my problems with this show. Let us go back to the second season of American Idol. In reality, Reuben was the winner, and Clay Aiken was the runner-up. If a viewer were asked who was the runner-up from season 2, that person would say, "Clay Aiken." However, if that same person were asked who had won from the second season, he or she would likely have no idea. How did the runner-up become more famous than the winner?
On a similar note, how have some of the total rejects become more famous than the winners? A classic example is William Hung, who has become famous for "singing" ONE SONG way off key.
These factors prove that American Idol is all about lack of talent, and that only the best of the least talented will move on to become the American Idol.
The Practice (1997)
Overall, a good show.
OVERALL, "The Practice" is one of the best crime dramas on television. As with other lawyer shows, it portrays the professional lives of a group of lawyers, but this show has a few twists.
Both District Attorneys and Defense Attorneys are among the main characters. The defense lawyers often face district attorneys who are also regular cast members. This show is not about defense lawyers always facing district attorneys who made only one or two appearances during the entire run of the series.
Another unique aspect of this show is that the main characters do not ALWAYS win, as they do in other shows. It also happens frequently, where a defense attorney, who is a main character, faces a district attorney, who is also a main character. While the main characters do win most of their cases, the audience is kept guessing which episodes will be the ones in which they do.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Absolutely monotonous
Possible spoilers.
I could only endure about an hour of this movie, before I walked out of the room where I had been watching it with my family. Why? First, the movie lacked a plot. It was strictly about the everyday lives of a group of pirates, and had no extraordinary plot elements. Instead of being a movie, it should have been made a sitcom. At least sitcoms ARE generally about the everyday lives of a person or group of people. Movies should have something more.
Secondly, this was one of the most monotonous movies I have ever seen. Most of the hour that I watched was the same dialogue, paraphrases over and over: "I'm a pirate." "Are you a pirate?" "Is he a pirate?" Hearing the same word in ALMOST EVERY SENTENCE grew very tiresome after an hour.
Lastly, constantly hearing the word "pirate" was only half of the problem with the dialogue. Much of it was JUST PLAIN CHEESY. I could not see how any educated writers could have come up with the dialogue that was used in this movie. If you want matching corny plot and dialogue, Pirates of the Caribbean is the right movie for you.
