PK (2014)
AK rocks as PK
one of the most anticipated movies of 2014 has finally arrived and luckily this time Aamir is back to his best after the disappointing Dhoom 3. every time RajKumar Hirani and Aamir come together the expectation level increases manifolds. This time also they don't disappoint. the movie almost treads the same path as Oh My God but unfortunately falls a little short.. whereas OMG was to the point, this one deviates sometimes from the plot to account for the other characters which gives a little childish element to the movie. acting by all the actors is brilliant and Aamir as Pk, the alien, is easily the show stealer and effortlessly gives one of his best performance (the Bhojpuri dialect is too good). however one feels that Sushant Singh Rajput could have been used a little more. Ranbir Kapoor in the end scene was a pleasant surprise. the tracks and background music may not seem that soothing but fit perfectly in the movie and carry forward the narration. overall, the movie makes for a decent watch especially our very own Bhojpuri PK ..
Jai Ho (2014)
2.30 hours of non sense ...
i would keep this review very short and simple .. JAI HO is so bad that that it makes movies like BODYGUARD seem very good.. one of SALMAN's worst movies .. i wonder how its considered a movie even..logic has gone for a complete toss in this movie.. imean just imagine this, an army officer driving an army tank on Mumbairoads(i mean seriously...):D. i cant understand of all the actresses why did he go for DAISY SHAH.. she is such a dumb.. music disappoints big time. much much more was expected.. the one thing good in this movie is that you will get to see many familiar faces on screen after a long span . my suggestion would be to avoid getting tortured in the hall. this one is worth giving a miss..
Grand Masti (2013)
nothing GRAND about this MASTI ...
GRAND MASTI is the sequel to 2004 hit MASTI although not related and not even half entertaining as the previous flick. the previous one boasted of some fine acting, a good story line and good music but this one is a let down in all the 3 departments. This one relies only on cheap and already seen adult humor. it is about the story of three friends Meet, Prem and Amar played by VIVEK , AFTAB and RITESH who are bored of their sexual lives as their wives (SONALI KULKARNI,KARISHMA TANNA & MANJARI FAADNIS) are unable to devote time for them. the three friends are invited to a get together in their college where they are attracted towards three women rose, Mary and Marlo (played by MARYAM ZAKARIA, BRUNA ABDULLAH & KAINAAT ARORA) who coincidentally happen to be wife, daughter and sister of the principal of the college (PRADEEP SINGH RAWAT). rest of movie is about the three trying to have blast at the college but end up getting in trouble. Most of the scenes in themovie are a direct lift off from various Hollywood movies, Americanpie, Ace Ventura, Austin powers to name a few. most of the movie hardly tickles the funny bone though a few scenes do evoke laughter but in pieces. the first 15-20 minutes are really enjoyable and the starting bank scene is best. performance wise the male actors are OK . Aftaab has made a desperate comeback which is visible clearly in his acting . Ritesh Deshmukh is good while Vivek is average. Sonali, Karishma and Manjari as their wives are OK. the other three actresses are a huge disappointment and irritating sometimes and are only for glamor quotient and skin show which they do. Pradeep rawat has tried his hand at comedy for first time and does good job . Suresh Menon, i feel has been wasted. music is poor and songs seem forced in the plot. On the whole this is a no-brainer served with a heavy dose of vulgarity, no plot and a clichéd climax although a few scenes do evoke laughter. a one time watch but recommended only with friends.
Shuddh Desi Romance (2013)
watch this one for SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT...
SHUDH DESI ROMANCE is neither desi nor shudh.. the story is about confused relations of three confused people. RAGHURAM SITARAM ( SUSHANT)is about to get married to tara (VANI MISHRA) but runs away on his wedding day after meeting GAYATRI ( PARINEETI CHOPRA ). same happens on GAYATRI and RAGHU'S wedding day this time tara runs away. afterwards Tara comes back again in his life and when things seem to go well between the two , enters Gayatri again. what happens next forms the climax of the story. performance wise director MANEESH SHARMA as director hasn't done anything worth mentioning. SUSHANT is the only bright star in the movie.his portrayal and expressions of a confused lover are spot on . he is definitely on his way to become the next big thing in Bollywood. PARINEETI CHOPRA is average while newcomer VANI KAPOOR disappoints big time. she needs some serious work on her dialogue delivery.RISHI KAPOOR is excellent as always and RAJESH SHARMA does good in few scenes he gets. music is good, SHAM GULABI being the best song of the lot. On the whole, the concept of movie may seem somewhat unrealistic. this generation is broad minded but not that much as shown in the movie.i had expected much more from the movie but it disappoints and what disappoints more is that the script comes from a writer who has previously given a classic like CHAK DE. 4 stars from my side for movie and one extra for the impressive SUSHANT.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)
Farhan brings FLYING SIKH alive on screen !!!!
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag as the name suggests is biopic based on the life of the 'FLYING SIKH' Milkha Singh.. Rakesh Oymprakash Mehra has done a brilliant job as he does usual..Farhan Akhtar is the heart and soul of the movie and boy!!! he has done a fantabulous job.. Divya Dutta appears in parts but makes a mark and leaves the audience in tears with her brilliant portrayal of Milkha's sister. this easily is her best performance ever.. Sonam Kapoor is OK in the few scenes she gets.. music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is superb and takes the narration forward.. rest of cast has done commendable job.. only flaw one finds is the editing part..overall length of movie(3 hrs 10 min) could easily have been trimmed by 20-25 minutes.. overall the movie is superb ranks amongst one of best of this year..definitely recommended.. it makes us proud of this great Indian sporting legend.. 8 stars from my side..
Kai po che! (2013)
KAI PO CHE...an ode to true friendship..
KAI PO CHE .. is easily the best movie of the year so far... based on the CHETAN BHAGAT'S best seller novel 'the three mistakes of my life'.. set in Gujarat in early 2000 the movie is a tale of friendship of three friends who are planing to set up a cricket academy and how their life goes through various tragic incidents that took place during that time (like godhra riots and 2001 earthquake).. this is another masterpiece from ABHISHEK KAPOOR who has earlier given us movies like rock on.. the story is simple with different (and better ) end from the novel.. the performances by all the newcomers are brilliant.. special mention for SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT.. they are ably supported by the rest of the cast.. and finally the music.. boy!!! AMIT TRIVEDI is a master class.this is surely one of his best works so far.. swananad kirkire has penned some beautiful lyrics.. MANJA was the best of the lot.. in fact one can easily see how the music carries the story forward.. P.S: go watch this for the outstanding performances and even better music..this one is definitely not to be missed..
Special Chabbis (2013)
2013 opens on a special note..
special 26 has ensured again that there are people still out in the industry who can make some realistic and sensible cinema ( looks like people are also finally coming off the typical masaala films.. good to see)... NEERAJ again shows his class.. as for this movie .. the movie inspired by the true incidents of late 1980s is about a bunch of con men headed by AKSHY KUMAR who pose as cbi and income tax officers and loot the rich (and corrupt) people all over the country and how they play cat and mouse game with the honest cbi officer WASEEM KHAN khan(manoj bajpai) who is assigned their case..definitely MANOJ BAJPAI is the show stealer ..he so easily carries of the role of waseem khan.. AKKI at his best (luckily acting deptt this time ) back on his way to some sensible roles than so common mass movies.. anupam kher is good as usual.. rest of the cast do their jobs nicely.. KAJAL AGGARWAL though has been wasted.. definitely the story is not devoid of loopholes but can be easily ignored..no worth mentioning minus points except that songs could have been avoided easily and background score at many scenes seems forced.. overall it is a more than nice experience..not to be missed (after all we don't get to see meaningful cinema much these days..)
