Being a great fan of the Poirot's books, I have now watched all the three movies in this series only to be hugely disappointed.
Being produced, directed and starred by Kenneth Branagh, the movies clearly suffer from the same problem: the very own Kenneth Branagh and his need to always appear bigger than the story, the character and the rest of the ensemble.
His pompous portrait of Poirot lacks most of the Belgian detective subtle crabbiness, witty and humour. Also his direction is pretentious while being not really polished, but very theatrical and full of mannerisms.
This feature, from the beginning, left me annoyed with the lazy explanations of the characters and their background, the poor use of flashbacks and the lack of attention to details (like italian children all speaking english or when the characters enter a room that's 'not been acessed by nobody' but all the lamps are on).
The production value here, at least, is fairly good. But in the end, the movie is much less than the sum of its parts.
