Giri/Haji (2019)
Truly extraordinary and impossible to adequately describe
I will watch this compelling and complex series again. The story telling, character development, different cultures represented (Japanese, British) and stylized presentation are riveting. The overt plot includes two brothers, one a detective, the other a member of the yakuza; it the title, Duty/Shame belies a much deeper psychological portrayal of love, betrayal, acceptance, grief. Truly, a unique viewing experience. I would say that in watching this, stay with it. The story is many layered and unfolds slowly. The acting is exceptional throughout.
60 Il, Jijeongsaengjonja (2019)
Truly exceptional
It took me a couple of episodes to adapt to the slower pace of character and plot development, but so worth the wait. This series is significantly better than the American version, which grew tiresome for me. I found that when I just settled in and let myself go with the slower pace, I was so much more interested, surprised and even riveted by the plot twists and unfolding episodes. Learned a lot about how Koreans express emotions compared to Americans; much more contained, but clearly as deep. Highly recommended.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Tremendous!
I'm unclear just what film the critics reviewed, but it must not have been this one. This was very entertaining, Rami Malek nailed Freddie Mercury and the story of Queen was well portrayed. Thoughtful, entertaining, moving. See it, you won't be disappointed.
