No emotional depth
22 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is based on a YA novel, and there was sooo much left out. Of course with any adaptation, there's going to be some parts left out due to time constraints and the like... but this felt like they left out any emotional depth to the plot. The main character in the novel was funny, quirky, nerdy, and likeable. This character in the film was boring. Even the sidekicks to Henry had some really amazing qualities in the novel but completely fell flat in the film. The climax was similar in both plots, but the movie didn't really have any stakes to the climax. We were concerned for Grace's character for a literal 15 seconds before she was deemed safe and sound. Maybe this film could use some reshoots, or a re-edit.

I had a few glasses of wine and let me just tell you that this made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. Probably not worth it if you don't have alcohol handy. By the way... Renee and Matthew have OSCARS. THEY HAVE OSCARS and they were IN THIS FILM. So , never give up, okay hunny? <3
