Rush (2008)
i can't believe this show has only one review
It's good and it deserves better.
I don't want to spoil it and talk about what happens. I would like however to mention how Aussie shows manage to capture real life better than American shows - who just lose themselves in unnatural drama. I don't know if that's because Aussie life is more down-to-earth than American life since I haven't been to any of those countries, but somehow I can relate to Rush much more than to any American cop show i've seen lately.
The characters are believable and real. And yeah, some ideas might not be the most original out there, but they don't feel fake while watching, and when watching this show I don't get that odd sensation I sometimes get when watching other shows - that feeling that someone's really trying hard to come up with a good story and it just doesn't get out. The story flows naturally.
Let's hope they don't lose it. I hope they go as long as Water Rats - maybe longer.
Dawson's Creek (1998)
you're getting this wrong...
this series is unbelievable and yet believable... yeah, everything that's been in here has been in almost every coming of age series and movie ever since these things started. but it's the way this is realized that makes it all unique. there's hardly any movie that has an original theme nowadays. and most of those are so keen on being original that they forget being entertaining. the originality of a movie or a series nowadays should be judged not upon the idea behind the movie but upon the way that idea is realized. yeah, it all went downhill slowly in season 4 and rapidly in seasons 5 and 6. but i still enjoyed watching every minute of it. and that's what it all should come down to. i never really got the idea behind this anyway. i mean, dawson is so self absorbed, selfish and oblivious to everything that happens around him. how can he and joey be best friends and soul mates (the whole idea of finding your soul mate at 16 is so ridiculous i won't even start discussing it... hell most 16 year-olds have no idea what a soul mate is) when the series is a living proof that whenever joey wants to achieve some dreams (like painting for example - check season 2, or Paris - end of season 1) he not only doesn't support her but he actively discourages her to pursue them! he has never been the supportive friend, he's always been the guy who wanted her to follow a certain pattern and accepting and encouraging that is something no girl would do. the whole dawson - joey dynamic is wrong on so many levels, how she keeps turning back to him despite his possessive and childish attitude... i never got that... and whenever the show got back to that idea i just bit my nails in frustration... and yet i watched it, i watched every episode... because it was so well written that no matter how the story went, i still enjoyed it. and although dawson's attitude annoyed the hell out of me, all of the other characters were very well written. and i loved the ending. no-one would choose the self absorbed guy over the guy who'd give you the moon and ask for nothing in return. it would've been unreal for joey to end up with dawson. and even if the show was not about a love triangle, and pacey was not the only alternative to dawson, and she didn't necessarily have to choose anyone over dawson, i think the whole thing was actually about her moving on. about her escaping the reality that other people created for her, escaping the whole soul mates idea and getting a life of her own.
