Safe Men (1998)
Not worth anyone's time
I don't know how or why this movie got made, and more importantly I don't care. The cast led me to believe this unknown title could not go wrong. You have Giamatti, Rockwell, Zahn, Ruffalo! how could you possibly go wrong with a cast like that? Well, I tried to forgive one horrible dialogue sequence after another but by the time Rockwell starts his romantic side-plot I was ready to smash the screen with anything within reach, I can't remember the last time I ever heard such atrocious dialogue. Do not watch this movie, if you know someone who owns this movie, disassociate yourself from this person and any of their acquaintances. You have been warned.
Fringe (2008)
Much better than Lost!
Having seen recent comments about this series not being as good as Lost, I decided to inform everyone that Fringe is much, much better than Lost (and also much better than the X-Files). As opposed to Lost, which ambles on aimlessly and doesn't actually have any plot at all, Fringe actually has a plot.
The characters are well developed. Unlike the shallow, bikini-wearing drones (for the teenage male audience) or male models (for the desperate housewives) on Lost, the characters in Fringe are actually worth caring about. The most important character is Dr. Walter Bishop, a slightly deranged but brilliant scientist. The series centers around his inventions, the work of his scientific colleagues, and his struggle between what is morally right and what is scientifically right. Olivia Dunham would be the second most important character, and although she is a little less interesting, she is still depicted as more intelligent than 90% of other female protagonists on TV. Finally, Joshua Jackson is a slightly embarrassing third, but he more or less makes up for his tainted past on Dawson's Creek with decent enough acting.
I really hope this show continues for many more seasons; the science is accessible enough and entertaining, but still relevant to developments in new fields like quantum physics, string theory, and genetic engineering. JJ Abrams has finally grown up and instead of wasting his time on incredibly pointless episodes of Lost about evil islands, he's created something with a coherent plot about the risks and possibilities involved with scientific progress.
Ultimate Avengers II (2006)
I don't care if dong Wu or Mr.smith animated these series
Everyone is bantering on about who animated the movie - was it a Japanese studio or American - it doesn't matter, whether it was Dong Wu or Mr.Smith what it boils down to is the actual overall quality of the experience. Starting off with the sadly disappointing retro 80s animation which is what everyone is sorely irritated with by this day and age. It looks as appealing as those short lived Heathcliff series, it's stock and we deserve better damn it! The only thing that makes these DVD's passable is the plot and character development, some dialogue, Hulk's fighting sequences and of course the spoof in the special features. Otherwise it's all recycled and familiar basic formulas. Let's use some of that money generated towards some CGI and not just use it for spacecrafts and background edifices etc.. get off your large & lazy arses.
