Family Guy (1999)
An Empty Shell
It never seizes to amaze me what passes for entertainment these days...
This show appeals to docile sheep who believe they are viewing something edgy and groundbreaking. I'm sorry folks, you're not.
It's simple humour designed for immature people. I love the Simpsons and South Park and although they may be viewed as immature, on a latent level, they are so much more.
I think I see the appeal. It's a show that relies on an endless supply of popular culture references and other random obscurities. The common reaction? "Wow, that's so random! I can't believe they ACTUALLY referenced that. I am so witty for getting that obscure reference...etc." This is such a hollow form of comedy. I think the South Park episode about the manatees says it all.
To each their own I guess.
Team America: World Police (2004)
Love it or hate it
I just saw Team America last night for the first time and loved it. If you know the style of Trey Parker and Matt Stone you knew what to expect from this movie and really shouldn't be offended. Sure, it's crude and sometimes absolutely ridiculous but it shouldn't be surprising coming from the creators of South Park. The DVD's special features will also make you appreciate the work gone into it.
So, if you are offended by South Park or any other Trey Parker/Matt Stone films then skip it. Don't watch it just to bash it.
I give it a 9/10 for it's originality and ability to poke fun at politics and the clichés of blockbuster action movies.
Ocean's Twelve (2004)
Disappointing
I left the theatre disappointed as did everyone else. Sure, this movie was somewhat humorous at times but it was the type of disposable humour that you forget instantly. Like the first, this movie tried to be clever and hip but it just didn't work. All the twists and the flashbacks that are put in are just put in for the sake of trying to make this film seem clever but it really isn't.
It's the type of movie where it builds to a climax that doesn't happen. When the producers realized that, they just stuck in ANOTHER flashback to explain it.
Well, I could go on but you get the point. If you want to see it go to a cheaper theatre of wait until video.
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
Embarrassing
I could not even finish even watching this so called movie just for the mere embarrassment I felt for watching it. The only laughter experienced was the laughter of my own disbelief that this tripe was actually accepted by Hollywood and transformed into a prequel of arguably one of the greatest comedies of the 90's. No original comedy, no plot, no character development, nothing that could even be considered comedy. All of the members who participated in this movie should be ashamed, for they tainted a classic.
Do not watch. Watch the original again if you have to. Just avoid at all costs.
