Really Rosie (1975)
My kids are still singing
My children just love this. After a long time, a friend of ours had the video (we live overseas) and we saw it again. Everyone (and I mean everyone) was singing along. Not a great story perhaps but just a great collection of wonderful music geared toward adults. As my 10 year old sits in the bath right now, she is singing Pierre at the top of her lungs. Is this what these shows should be about! Making children happy and helping their imaginations. Well, IMDb says 10 lines so 10 lines it is. 30 years later and I do not see one Disney soundtrack even coming close to the talent and beauty of Carole King's work and Maurice Sendaks story. I have to say.
Batman & Robin (1997)
Horrible
I was in Paris, (with kids so don't laugh) and watching TV in the evening when B&R came on in English. After about 10 seconds of really bad lines, horrible acting, terrible spacing and direction I was unable to continue. Even WB TV shows dubbed into French were an improvement! I pity the poor souls who paid to see this trash. You realize that Arnold's best movies are the ones where he is only required to grunt and that whom ever wrote and directed this film should have their screen writers and screen director's guild cards taken away. I tried and tried to watch I could not take the really bad jokes like Arnold telling Batman that he was not sending him to the cooler and other really bad puns about cold and heat and oh my God. Do us a favor and hunt down and destroy all DVD and VHR versions of this movie!
Battle of the Bulge (1965)
Based in fantasy, horrible
This movie has zero historical significance. Just a vehicle for bad acting (how did Telly Savalas ever get an acting job!!) and a stupid insipid plot. I do not know who wrote this story but they probably took some cowboy film and changed it to a WWII and voila we have the battle of the bulge. Anyway, do not waste any mental energy watching this amazing piece of cinematic garbage. I guess Henry Fonda was looking for some cash to pay for Jane's braces or bras or something. How he ever agreed to star int the pieced of trash is amazing. Anyway, they said I gotta take ten lines to put a comment in but in reality I can do it in three words. This movie sucks!
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
Just read the novel .
I happened upon the movie one night on TV. Quite a shocking subject considering the time it was made. I would recommend the book (if you could find it). Jimmy Stewart did a good job in portraying Mr Biegler. Lee Remick as well. Ben Gazarra was a bit wooden. The book and the movie really revolve around his working of a court case (the defendant murdered the man who raped his wife) and is not your typical "Law and Order" plot but rather a good look at how an attorney builds a case. There is a big departure from the novel (Hollywood does this sometimes :).
Overall, I would recommend the movie, if not only to see what was considered very risqué. Time have sure changed.
