New York Doll (2005)
A Compelling and Emotional Story About a Hair Band
I just got home from viewing a sneak preview of this documentary in Provo and am greatly impressed by the deep emotion and meaning in this film! Without giving anything away, we are witness to the miracle of a man's life turning completely around and receiving the fruits of his life-long efforts both spiritually and professionally.
Arthur is a former rock star whose life goes from the absolute worst scenario fathomable to a humble recognition of God and His will. I loved the look in Arthur's eyes as he reminisced about the band and prayed for God's help. This is a man who, despite the effects that years of alcoholism have had on his mind and body, has taken control of his life and relied upon divine powers to become a man we can all look up to.
It's a movie about success, repentance, atonement, friendship, forgiveness, love, and more. I highly recommend it!
Peluca (2003)
A work of genius!
A hilarious short piece about a wacky kid and his adventures in trying to help his friends out. The humor isn't corny and it's not even smart, but it makes you laugh nonetheless.
A fantastic story, with great acting from the lead. One of his Hispanic buddies understands English yet only says two words NOT in Spanish the entire time (if you understand Spanish these parts are even funnier).
The cinematography/editing looks professional -- it's hard to believe that the graininess and such is a mistake, because it adds to the feeling of dullness in a small, rural Idaho town.
A must-see!
