Finch (2021)
Very cerebral but entertaining and heartfelt
I think people expect a post apocalyptic movie to be full of action / drama etc and this movie is really just almost a buddy movie about a dying man concerned for what will happen to his beloved dog after he dies since the world as we know it has ended and he may be the last person alive. His answer is to create an AI powered robot that over the course of the movie becomes almost human and mourns the death of it's friend and creator and tries to fulfill his dying wish. Tom Hanks as always gives a wonderful performance and the robot "Jeff" is really very good CGI or practical effects and the voice actor delivers a fine performance. I think in general that the low ratings for this movie are simply that people come to it expecting one thing and get another, I found it interesting and enjoyable and actually sad at the end.
Venom (2018)
Not terrible but lacks a lot
If you're a fan of the Spider-Man comics you know where Venom came from (it wasn't as portrayed in this movie) and Eddie Brock was motivated for many years solely by his hate for Spider-Man ruining his career and the Venom symbiotes hate for Spider-Man for rejecting it. (Yes, Venom was Peter Parker's black Spider-Man suite in the comics). The reason I feel this movie is not great is mainly because it rewrites the history of Venom and how he came to be and completely removes Spider-Man.
I've liked Tom Hardy in many of his movies but here his acting is all over the place where he's mumbling his lines like he's deranged or when he's talking to his ex girl friend it's like he's got an IQ of 60 and it's also partially his demeanor like he's a 16 year old sorry for something wrong he did.
The film also seems disjointed and I read that 40 minutes of scenes were deleted (including some of Tom Hardy's favorite) and that may explain that this film was badly edited and perhaps some critical scenes that would have made the movie better were removed.
Life: Find Your Happy Place (2008)
Good, But!
Overall I have to say that this was a good episode and that much of what was great about the first season is back but there is one notable exception. One of the multi-layered things that made the first season great was Robin Weigert as Lt. Davis who was obviously somehow involved in the conspiracy to frame Charlie Crews and was looking for any way / reason to fire him or find him unfit for duty. The tension between her and Charlie, and her and Charlie's partner Dani was really essential to the whole story of the first season. I realize that she most likely wasn't written out on purpose but that Robin Weigert found other work / commitments during the writers strike and was not available for season two so we'll have to see how it goes with that essential piece missing.
...4 ..3 ..2 ..1 ...morte (1967)
Not Bad For 1967
Not bad for a movie made 1967 (keep in mind that this was the same time period as the original Star Trek series, whose first season was 1966). Also since the movie was originally filmed in German you'll have to forgive the dubbing which make it look like one of those bad Chinese Kung Fu movies thats been dubbed into English. Although credited with the screenplay I find it hard to believe that Kurt Vogelmann (who wrote some of the Perry Rhodan books) had much in the way to do with the movie. The plot shares some major details of the first two or three Perry Rhodan books, which were more like short stories than full fledged books but takes a few detours to make it fit into a single movie. If you're a fan of the books this is worth a look.
