Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)
don't believe the reviews it's just boring
So, 8.3 pretty impressive score, must be a great movie. WRONG.
I can't believe people eat this garbage up. I mean if you ever drawn or painted anything, you will laugh out loud on every painting scene, and apart from that there's only walking on the beach, walking on stairs or doing nothing basically.
It's a nonsensical, unbelievable story, with forgettable dialogue and performances. It is shot nicely, but that is far from enough to make this work. I get it that using no music makes the 2 times when there's music really emotional, but if it's done in such a noticable fashion, it just doesn't work.
I am not mad for wasting 2 hours of my life on this, it was watchable. But it is not good, not even okay. It's the kind of movie I would never rewatch or recommend to anyone I care about. Just spare yourself.

have a nice day, but don't waste your time on this
This movie was the opening film for the 15th Anilogue Animation Festival in Budapest, so I thought it must be great. I watched the trailer, which promises Tarantino's style, but in animation. Spoiler alert: it's not even close.
The background designs are nicely made, but the animation is so lazy, that I almost started crying. There's absolutely no lip-sync, for every dialogue, they use two frames, an open mouth and a closed one. There are no emotion changes in the characters, you can only decode emotions from the voices, and sometimes they even reuse the shots from older scenes. Every movement is layers moving vertically, the cars move like they had no weight, sometimes they didn't take the time to roll the wheels, also it could be much better with a little motion blur, here and there, but to sum the whole thing up. If you enjoy nice animation, this film will be a horrible torture.
The story is not bad, that reminded me of Guy Ritchie's Snatch, but the whole execution is just so embarrassing, that it's impossible to enjoy the good parts of the visual storytelling. Also it's like Tarantino yes, but without any excitement or humour.
I'm sure that they didn't have a big budget, and also few people worked on this film, still it's boring, long, and disappointing.
Rocks in My Pockets (2014)
Worst Animation Movie Until Now
I heard a lot about this before I watched it. And I seriously don't get all the fuss. Anyway I suffered through the whole movie, and for me it was horrible by all means.
If you want to see some nice animation, don't ever watch this movie. Technically it mixes animation styles: stop-motion and traditional frame-by-frame, but it fails so badly. And it's not that I don't like weird characters, but these are just too simple and unpretending. The animation is low frame, not flawless at all, and that makes the scenes even harder to embrace. The stop-motion scenes look awful, for example a house looks like a simple paperboard box, that a five year old would make as a mock-up.
About the story: there's not much to be told. Long story short: the main character has mental illness, and all her female family members too. Their life s*ck. Some of them commits suicide, but not her. The End.
In my humble opinion the movie is really depressing to watch, and there's absolutely nothing to enjoy about it. It's not interesting, or fun, or clever, it's just sad and ugly, and very dull. After this movie I felt nothing but a deep urge to kill myself, so I don't have to watch this anymore.
And her voice, which narrates everything, is so irritating, that I can't even describe it.
I didn't find anything in this movie that worths mentioning. OK, maybe the moral of the story. But the idea, that someone with mental illness can live together with normal people, is not enough, at least not for me, to keep me interested and/or entertained for a movie this long, or to make up for the wasted time, and for the insulting quality of animation.
Still I think the director/writer really tells the story of her life, which is nice, and she deserves all my respect for that. But if you go crazy in animation, do it with style! Please.
