This Means War (2012)
Kept me watching
This movie isn't as bad as some people are saying here, in my opinion. I usually don't like these kind of movies, but this one seemed to have a different vibe to it and I liked it. Sure the action in it was terrible, but I still think that the movie had a good flow to it overall.
This certainly isn't a movie I could have stopped watching after I saw the first 30 or 40 minutes. At first I thought that I wouldn't like it, but it really grew on me and I found myself really wanting to know who Reese's character, Lauren, would choose at the end.
While I can see why some may really hate this one, I found it to be quite entertaining (and I'm one who usually doesn't care for romance films), but this one really doesn't feel like a full-on romance film.
I'm very sure that some people will be able to find this very entertaining, while others may feel like it is the worst movie they have ever laid their eyes on. I would suggest trying it out, though, because it may surprise you.
The Devil Inside (2012)
Great if you're into exorcisms, not so much if you're looking for a big scare
While this movie isn't anywhere close to the intense, heart-wrenching, horrifying, and goose-bump-inducing movie "The Exorcist", it still has a place in the exorcist movie world.
I really think they went in the right direction when they decided to make it a documentary-type way of filming (much like the Paranormal Activity series). I think it really helps to add to the realism.
Now on the other hand, I would NOT recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a really big scare. It never gave me that intense and heart-wrenching feeling that I got while watching movies like "The Exorcist" and "Paranormal Activity". It kind of seems to just beat around the bush the entire movie, in a sense.
The worst part of the entire movie, in my opinion, was the ending. After the movie was over, I had a feeling of absolute emptiness. They could have, at the very least, showed what happened to Maria Rossi. Did the demon really leave her? Was she back to normal? Did they survive the car accident? Yes, I'm sure many people are saying "Well it was a creative and non-cliché ending". While that may be true, you can make a creative ending without leaving so much out. This was probably the worst ending I've ever seen in a movie that started with so much potential. I just felt I never got that really enormous scare that I was waiting for.
The bottom line, this movie has so much potential, but I feel it never fully utilizes it, and in the end you leave feeling empty. On the other hand, it does have some really cool information on exorcisms, and some really awesome acting to go with it. There were some really dramatic and intense scenes. I really felt like they were really in that situation and that they weren't even acting at all. Not to mention the way it was presented was really top-notch. Like I said, this movie has a ton of potential, but it seems to just simply fizzle out. I believe it can be enjoyed non-the-less. Although if you want to get a scare out of it, I suggest watching it alone!
Wolf Town (2011)
Low-Budget and cliché
I can handle the whole cliché thing, and I can usually even enjoy a lower budget movie from time to time, but this movie gives a whole new meaning to the word "low-budget".
The wolf attack scenes are almost laughable. The camera simply changes angles and cuts to different areas that it is impossible to even see what is happening.
The acting isn't terrible, although what the writers have the actors doing is quite ridiculous. They just wander about the town, going off by themselves from time to time, often for no reason at all. It just seems as though someone was too lazy to come up with even a half-decent plot line.
I really feel this movie was not even worth the $1.20 that I paid to rent it from a RedBox.
